If this is in the wrong section or against the rules, sorry ahead of time.
I have been keeping my eyes on Persona 4 Arena since before its launch and it seems like a great game, especially since I am a persona fan. I did play it a couple of times at my friends house and I certainly do want to get it eventually, but the price tag is a little steep for now. Usually games like this don’t really fall in price fast so I’ve been waiting on it for a while now. Meanwhile the new patched guilty gear came out and it looks pretty damn interesting. I saw the UltraChentv show last night with every character demonstration, and I was left with the impression that more than half the cast is incredibly interesting to play with their own unique mechanics. Now I’m relatively new to fighting games ( '12er) and am wondering which to pick up. I realize that persona 4 is the easier game, but I feel like i would enjoy guilty gear more. That said, the mechanics in guilty gear seem extremely difficult. Main reason why I want to pick up a air dash/2d game is so I can improve my blocking and pressure in street fighter 4. I guess marvel wouldn’t be a bad pickup either, although I really dislike the x-factor mechanic.
All the characters in P4A are super different too, and most have unique mechanics.
Anyone heard anything about the netplay for GG? Since it was designed for a zero latency environment (unlike later Arc System Works fighters, which are designed with lag mitigation somewhat in mind), I expect it to be unusually unpleasant to play online, but that’s strictly speculation on my part.
Not every decision about games these days has to be black and white. If you like P4U, get it and play it. If you think GG is interesting, give that a shot. If you don’t like it, no biggie. If you don’t like P4U, no biggie. Tons of games out (especially this year) so you can actually find something that suits your tastes almost exactly as long as you know what you want.
ya picking up a brand new game to bolster select skills in another is a really inefficient way to practice compared to just focusing on working on those select skills in the game you want to be good at.
