Guile: Q&A thread - Ask simple questions here instead of making a new thread PLEASE!

The organization of the thread itself is whatever, but as far as the actual strategy info there’s only a small handful of players whose posts I will personally be interested in. Anyone who doesn’t know who those players are, or if they’re one of them? Please don’t contribute.

Speaking of this, and interesting thing about the Vega(Claw) forum is that they’ve got a strategy discussion thread, where anyone posts whatever about match-ups and theory, and a legit strats/match-up thread, where only contributing info is posted.

That’s an interesting idea, but a bit of a communication/logistics headache.

As long as the first few posts are reserved, anything that comes up throughout the thread discussion can be added to them. And if it somehow becomes a clustercuss anyway, it can always be closed, with any relevant info carried over to a new one.

Fair enough, but why let it get to that point in the first place? I say we do it right the first time and make changes from there. A little organization wouldn’t hurt, and it would go a very long way. Pain in the neck as it may be, it would certainly be worth it. Heck, I’ll do it if nobody else wants to. So long as we gather all the right info, that’s all anyone needs, really.

This attitude will lead to this shitty idea in the Smash forums called “the backroom” where only certain people are allowed to go and discuss things that affect the scene as a whole. Think of the mythical “Illuminati” but real.

I get what Opinionhaver is saying though. There’s only a handful of us who’ve been posting for here since day one and playing Guile is hard enough as it is without Guile scrubs coming in here and spewing nonsense. At the same time, there’s been tons of times where a scrub has brought something new to the table, simply because we never looked at a certain situation or move a different way (I say this in a general sense and not specific to us Guile players lol).

Still, we need a more centralized strategies and match up thread. I’m down to contribute to the matches I know best (Viper, Sagat, Chun, Gief, Ken, and Ryu). I’ve got some experience with the rest of the cast, but not enough to where I feel like I know more about the matches than other people.

I’m not new to Guile as I’ve been familiar with him since Street Fighter II, (got serious around IV), but I never payed close attention to frame data (I did a little bit), and I have a lot of weaknesses in my game that could benefit from different opinions. I’d definitely like to participate in handling the organization of it if possible, since I may not be able to contribute match-specific stuff.

Hi guys my fightg stick just broke. One of the button, the lp started to stick. I was hoping for anyone’s advice on how to fix it or any suggestion of a good fight stick. I’m not a competitive ST player but I really want something that doesn’t break in 3 months. Mu current one is the wireless fightpad that comes with tekken 6.

It sucked because I was SBing happily untill the button stuck!!

If you mean the free stick that came with the tekken bundle…then it was only a matter of time.

If you really want a stick thats gonna last, and is great quality. I suggest picking up a TE fightstick off amazon.com, as they are only 100 bucks currently.

There are two types:
Street Fighter IV FightStick

and

Street Fighter IV Round 2 FightPad

Anyone had experience with these two sticks, I press my button pretty hard (can’t tap it like playing a piano) so are these sticks better (especially in button’s design) than the one I had (tekken bundle stick)?

I heard that Madcatz sticks break down really easily.

the way I’ve been getting fk fadc u2 is the following:

  • charge db
  • ub + k
  • ub + mp + mk (keep ub held)
  • f,f to dash out of focus attack
  • b , f, ppp

the secret is to hold ub while focusing. Otherwise you will lose your charge. I spent like a good hour or two conditioning myself to keep that ub held until I dash out. Try it on player one side. I found that it was easier for me to dash out.

I can focus, dash U2 consistently, but for some reason, I can’t FK FADC U2 consistently. The way I do it though, I just hold back when I’m focusing, so maybe holding UB is the key.

These are the same stick, just different designs. Get whichever one you can find on sale. Madcatz generally makes products of questionable quality, but these sticks are legit with real Sanwa arcade parts. If you were happy with your Tekken stick you’ll jizz in your pants over these.

Watching my Battle Log in SSF4 has made something painfully obvious to me: I have no idea on how to zone an opponent. For example I throw out booms at full screen, but to no purpose. They get in a little closer and then jump over a boom and I eat a foot when I thought I was at a safe distance. So basically, I’m just spamming booms rather than using booms to set something up. A lot of time is devoted to discussing combos, but for a new player I find myself in much more situations where proper spacing, knowledge of jump distance, etc. would help me win rather than being able to do c.lp --> c.mp. Any tips anyone can give on this? Thx!

edit: Good post by Brahn0913 earlier in the thead: http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=202483&p=7302599&viewfull=1#post7302599

It is IMPERATIVE that you do this. Before, I would just do ub + k and let my stick go back to neutral while pressing mp + mk then f, f. This is a big no no. The charge will be lost. So to anyone that’s been trying to get FK>FADC>U2, keep your upback!

Also, for anyone who gets their dummy flying on the opposite side of Guile, hold ub and focus a LIIIITLE bit longer before dashing out. Then it should be okay.

fuuuuuuuuuuu

Will try this when getting home from work.

Anyone else notice you can’t Sonic Hurricane with a Boom on the screen?

It’s same reason why you can’t do the Ryu fireball/super fireball trap anymore.

Once the sonic boom connects with anything, you can fire off Sonic Hurricane. You can even have sonic boom > Sonic Hurricane.

hi, i was just wondering if there are any noticeable changes to any of these normals:

st.hk far (i fucking love this move. i’m hoping it might be a bit quicker)
cr.mk
j.hk ( i heard a rumour this has an improved hit box)
overhead

only reply if you are 100% sure. not “well maybe its slightly faster. but it’s hard to tell”. that’s why i haven’t posted this in the “guile’s changes” thread. because it’s just turned into a bunch of speculation, where the original poster was looking for facts.

is there a shortcut to do U1? i cant seem to pull it off consistently. i have a roundgate joystick so maybe im not too keen on the corners?

sorry to bring this up yet again, but does anybody have tips for backdash FADC U2? I can do forward dash FADC pretty well at this point (80% of the time maybe), so I’m not entirely hopeless. But I can’t even get the backdash version to come out. Heck, I can’t even get backdash SH out of a FA at the moment. Any ideas?

I’m already holding :l: so all I need is one more :l: command to get the backdash out. Here’s what I’m doing:

Hold :l:, :mp::mk: (while still charging :l:) :l::r::l::r: :3p:
