If I manage to land a jump in it’s always the BnB combo. For anything else I guess it’ll either be cr.mp -> fk or cr.mp -> lp.sb -> st.hp/f.hp (depending on range)

lol that was my secret answer too

that one is interesting to me because it’s one i never think to use.

In all seriousness, anyone on this forum who has played with me can attest that I rely entirely on zoning to win. I like to steer my opponent to where I want them to go with booms, and counter their jump-ins and poke at them until they pass out. The only time I even go for a combo is if I somehow dizzy them while doing that. So I never really get a big chunk.

Really, the biggest damage you can do is landing a full Ultra on the ground, no FA. And how often is that going to happen? That’s why I play the way I play: if you can frustrate someone into abandoning their gameplan because they have no fear of Guile, they’ll be finished before they realize it.

@ big damage discussion:

Find opening

(c.lp ) > c.mp xx lk.super > ultra

lk.super to ultra does only 50-60 more damage than the ultra alone, less if you have the c.lp and c.mp in there. Fun to pull off though.

I have been having some minor success fishing with FA to c.mp xx FK. Otherwise it is the risky jump in combos for “big” damage.

edit: Opinionhaver spelled it out really nicely above. Although it feels soooo good Ultra-ing Green Hand on block. Completely makes up for the stupidity of being in range of Green Hand in the first place.

Linking question?

Hey guys im having trouble with the link of cr.lkx2,cr.lp,HK flashkick.
I get the cr.lk both times and the cr.lp but for some reason the flashkick just won’t come out for me. Any tips?

you have to link the flash kick off the c.lp in that combo, so you need to pause before you input the flash kick.

or use c.lk, c.lp, c.mp, flash kick.

does flash kick only fadc if you are at close range to the opponent?

i played a rog today and i was trying to cancel a far range flash kick. it didn’t work. i tried this on more than one occasion, just to see if it would cancel. it never did. at close range it was fine.

its simple… when you try to tip flash kick you already have almost completed the animation. so :nono:

Yes.

General rule of thumb, if you know the very tip of the FK will hit your opponent, you can’t FADC it. FK has to be pretty deep for you to FADC it because you can only FADC during the beginning of the FK.

bit silly really considering sagat can fadc a kara uppercut. not like it’s got retardedly good range or anything.

I have a question. what day did SRK decide to remove the Register Date on everyone? :lovin:

It has something to do with being still grounded I thought? Which is why Sagat has a little more time to FADC since his feet stay grounded a tad longer…

^ This. Sagat can FADC damn near 3/4ths of the way through his uppercut, Guile is only grounded for the first few frames.

I’m not sure where to find this but here goes:

After playing around with a joystick, I think my reaction time is just too slow to do anything on it. It’s been about 2-3 weeks, and a number of problems occur: Unable to jump up and air-catch in time, unable to react fast enough to anything, and I can’t even seem to sonic boom properly.

However, the one thing the joystick had that was a major advantage over the controller was the ability to ultra. Any tips on getting that ultra out on a D-pad? I can only get the super out, and even then, only on the 2nd player position. The rest of the stuff, combos and etc I can do just fine and dandy on a D-pad.

To put it in perspective, it took me 2 months to get used to the arcade stick. Your reaction time (over time) theoretically should be better in that you’re not relying on your thumb alone for button inputs: you have more flexibility in that you can use all 5 fingers (I only use 4 myself).

Now I can barely pick up a pad or use my keyboard, everything is just so damn fluid on that stick.

I’d say if you bought one, don’t give up on it, just practice everything that you find difficult every day. For the most part, FADC’s are what gave me the most trouble…now? Nothing. You’ll be rewarded later once you get proficient in it, it’s truly the best device to play the game on–as someone who’s thoroughly experienced a pad, a keyboard, and a stick, the stick reigns supreme.

Keyboards are astronomically close to sticks, as they’re…almost perfect. In fact if it weren’t few a few quirks with them (360 characters, any instant-air moves like dhalsim’s teleport, cannon strike, etc. are terribly difficult; occasionally lacks precision in directional inputs, if you do it too fast you can sometimes just input :d::r::p: since you didn’t hold down both for a split second to get the :df: in there.) there would really be no point to use a stick.

It’s not that your reaction time is slow. It’s the fact that you’re not used to the stick yet. Give it some time, and you will see that sticks will be better for you in the long run (not to mention better for your thumbs :looney:) As Kich said, once you go stick, going back to pad will be uncomfortable. I used a pad the other day and I couldn’t even do a QCF effectively…

If you can do the super, there shouldn’t be a reason why you don’t get the Ultra? Unless you’re actually pressing all 3 buttons on the pad instead of using the macro 3K button? If that’s the case, try using the macros instead. I’d say it’d be quite troublesome to get any ultra out using the pad without macros. Even the fightpad.

So using the same motion on pad as on stick should work; it does for me. Do this :db:, then this :r::360:+:3k:

Best Japanese Guile

I am sure this is posted somewhere but I can’t find it.

Who is the best guile player in Japan?

I know of a few but None of them crack the top 30 in bp for arcades over there.

It depends on who you ask.

If you talk about the best Guile in tournaments, then it’s Yoshio. He has placed very high consistently at TRF tournaments. He’s probably the most recognized Japanese Guile player for SFIV. He has a lot of ups and downs, and some things have happened to him like losing over 20k BP in 1 month alone. He seems to have a lot of hot and cold moments too, or take long periods of not playing at all. Still he’ the most recongnized.

There is also Yazu. He appears to be a little more consistentthan Yoshio. His style is also radically different than Yoshio’s as well. As far as I know he has the highest BP of any active Guile player right now. Not a lot is known about him as videos of him are really rare. He, like Yoshio are the only Guile’s that qualified for SBO. I know he was ranked 2nd highest BP Guile leader with the top BP Guile being Hiko. Hiko may still be the highest ranked, since I heard that every arcade character has a grandmaster player to them but Fuerte. Yazu is not a grandmaster, so if Hiko is still active, then he is the sole Grandmaster Guile player. But this is pure speculation. There is only 1 video of Hiko, and less than 5 of Yazu.

There is also Fujisawa aka NicoNico Mark. Very good Guile player who came up though the ranks rather quickly. Very entertaining Guile if nothing else. There is also Furasanjin, who seems to win pretty consistently, but is seen mainly in co-ops. Quite a few vids of both in circulation.
