Guile: Q&A thread - Ask simple questions here instead of making a new thread PLEASE!

Hmm. It says in the matchup thread that you can air throw Bison’s Headstomp… However I can’t seem to do it… everytime I try I get… well, Headstomped… Is it accurate? If so, what’s the timing for it?

I can’t always walk away during a headstomp cuz I get the block animation instead…

what are other ways you handle Headstomp? Jumping away and kicking isn’t as effective as it used to be in ST…

I’ve air thrown headstomps many time. A lot of it has to do with the angle that the headstomp is coming at you. If Bison is right on top of you, then obviously the air throw will get beat out. If Bison’s coming at more horizontal angle though (as in he’ll land in front of you), you’ll be able to air throw him. I’m pretty sure I’ve jumped back and air thrown him too, but I can’t confirm that.

I know you’re getting stuck in the block animation, but try back dash sweep instead of trying to walk back.

Also, I’m pretty sure cr.hp beats it clean, but I never had the timing down so I didn’t do it.

what does guile do against crossups? i was playing a gief and after he’d knock me down, he’d do crossup splash over and over and i was helpless.

Welcome to the Gief match up.

If he crosses up too late, you can forward dash under him and reset the match.

If you’re playing a Gief who knows what he’s doing, you need to guess right and get out.

Hey i dont toll the forums much enough. so can anyone give some inputs on the kara flash kick? thanks…

I can match sonic booms against Ryu players easily (using different strengths and spacing). Which usually results in them doing jump ins to which I have no problem dealing with as well. But the problem I have the most is…that I don’t have to block with Guile. What I want to do with Guile is being able to go full offense. Throw mixups to charge buffering and cross up combos.

That’s what I want to learn. How to approach a shoto or any other character in a seriously offensive manner.

Brahn,

Should try taking on EmblemLord. He has strong emphasis (very strong) emphasis on zoning.

In order to do that with Guile, you gotta know what your opponent wants you to do. Ryu will desperately want you to jump at him. He’s begging you to do it. He wants you to do it. But it’s simple… don’t. Yeah, jump in when it’s safe but when you’re close, stay grounded. Block the FB, and move forward and block again. He’ll try to either SRK or j.mp into ultra or ex-fb. Just backhand him after he wiffs and show him you’re not going to jump. He’ll want you to, but you won’t. After he understands and goes for jumping in combo’s, maybe a jump in combo into ex-tatsu into ultra if you’re in the corner, then you can surprise him with a jump in bb combo. It’s all about outhinking the other person.
I learned with his crossup that to do it right, 1 or 2 jabs and then jump short can cross up. 3 jabs and then a jumping short stays in front of them. 1 jab and walk up throw ticks 'em off.
Walk up to them when knocked down and block a few times. If you guess right, you block a wake up srk or whatever and you can punish with a sweep. Then walk up throw. Then walk up and target combo. Then walk up and block and throw. Then walk up and block and throw… then just do his overhead and then block. Keep this up and chances are, you can out guess what they’re going to do.

What’s up people?

New to the Guile threads (Started with Rog and now my main is Rose).
I could not find ( and yes, I did use the search tool…) any NEW Guile Players thread so I am going to post here…

I am wanting to learn Guile over again as he was my main in SF2, Alpha-Series ( as Nash) and even in MvC2. I did not pick him from the get go of SF4 as he seemed a lot different than before…
Now that I know how THIS game plays, I want to try him out again. Looking to get some VOICED online lessons so I can get back in the groove with him.

XBL tag is " dikrodnum ". hit me up with a MSG saying that you are from SRK.
Thanks in advance…

because he doesnt need it! hahha

i definitely agree guile has a better zoning game than ryu.

the only character with a better one is sagat…and even that is arguable. it’s not like his has more options, it’s just a hell of a lot easier with the range he has got and the speed of his fireballs.

i would say that because of the charge buffering…it’s easier to screw up in the middle of a fireball war with guile than it is with ryu/sagat…but he CAN keep up. especially if you start using bazooka knee to close space and use neutral jump to avoid the odd fireball you know you are going to have trouble with.

i think a lot of people (myself included) don’t know the full potential of guile’s air attack game because we are too busy using cr.hp or st.hp to realise he has others. i’ve seen fuson and dagger g use st.mk, cr.fwd.hk and bazooka knee as air attacks. these air attacks are great for near/moderate ranges and i need to start incorporating them into my game.

Going to actually have to disagree. Guile doesn’t have better zoning, and unless someone shows me a video of Guile actually matching Ryu’s fireballs shot for shot and overcoming him as was suggested by Branh, I’m inclined not to believe it.

Guile is limited to 55 frames per sonic boom, even with perfect charge buffering, you’re shooting just about once per second. Ryu can shoot faster. He can pump out fp.fb’s from half screen and closer without stopping and at full screen even if he’s using LP.Hadouken he’ll overcome Guile eventually.

Shoryuken is a better anti-air than FK, his ability to use both c.fp and s.rh as anti-airs gives him more flexible and imo better options against air opponents, and furthermore, Ryu’s aa lp.srk’s inevitably end in an EX Hadou or ultra. That alone makes his anti-air infinitely superior to Guile’s, anti-air moves are not only there to punish jump ins, but they’re there to deter them from even occurring, Flash Kick and C.fp aren’t as scary as half your health missing. If we recovered fast enough to drop an EX boom on them, then maybe. At that point we could probably ultra and super off of FK without having to tip them from 100 feet off the ground…

I don’t really see how you could legitimately confuse someone with sonic boom throwing, there is no thought to match it. If they mash fireballs, they’ll beat you. That’s all they have to know, you can’t force Ryu to do anything with sonic booms because all he has to do is continuously throw hadoukens, and if he’s throwing fierce ones, they close that distance rapidly.

At this point I don’t bother trying to match them, I wait for the opportunity to burn an EX Boom that’ll either stuff or eat their fireball and then hit them and close distance through that and neutral jumping and slowly working forward.

sorry to change subject. but can someone explain to me how on earth you do focus dash ultra or dash ultra on a ps3 dpad? thanks

Same way you would otherwise, Charge > :db: > Focus > :r::r::db::uf::3k:.

If I’m not mistaken that’s the jist of it, haven’t gotten it to connect myself however.

Hey, is there a thread for list of fellow Guile players on 360? I am trying to get some MM’s in and need to talk to good Guile players…
Hit me up with a MSG on LIVE saying you’re from SRK.

REALLY looking to get leveled up…

This might be kind of obvious, but if you look below everyone’s avatar, it usually has their gamertags under it. You should add them with a message saying you’re a Guile player from SRK too.

lol, true…but most of the other threads have a players list. I just assumed…

I will do that…

in the combo thread there is a punish combo s.hp xx fk how does that work?

this is a question for people who consider themselves an above average guile player.
**
what do you find to be the safest, most effective way to take a big chunk of your opponents life bar?**

i have my own thoughts on this question i just want to see if someone says something i haven’t thought of.

we may all learn something from this.

I consider myself an above average Guile player, and I find that the safest, most effective way to take a big chunk of my opponent’s life bar is to pick Zangief.

Reversal super a blocked sweep.
