Guile in Super Street Fighter IV (arcade version)

i’ve been thinking about fair nerfs.

if i wasn’t maining guile, i’d start with saying back fist has too much range. also, anti air ghk, backfist does too much damage. give cr.hp it’s vanilla priority to compensate.

guile will still be good even with nerfs as long as they don’t go overboard. sagat is still very good in super regardless of what the players who dropped him will tell you. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: 90% of online players are ryu/ken. guile used to be a shoto’s personal bitch. now the roles are reversed, we won’t hear the end of it until he’s nerfed. just don’t fuck with his vanilla anti airs, super boom speed and ultra 2…i’ll be ok. start messing with his anti air priorities and i won’t be very happy.

anyways, it looks like charlie is in the game now, and i’m guessing deejay is getting buffs too. should be interesting to see who turns out the best of the three.

I never used or seen charlie, but if he is indeed in the game I will main him and guile. I understand ppl want a new move set but come on there are 35 chars. you find like 20 different sets pick one not to mention yun & yang there’s 2 more.

Just read the nerfs for Elf, and not much of it helps guile. No changes to splash or slides. I hope they don’t nerf guile too much.

IMO no. He might get to mid tier just on SH. But without reliable anti-airs or quicker SB charge time he’s just not top tier material.

He’d still have his bs match ups vs people he really shouldn’t have (read: everyone lol). Ryu, Rufus and 'Gat would still beast him; Rog would still out-turtle him (until he gets SH). The only saving grace in any match would be you have an ultra that works.

If we are talking about nerfs tho, a meter decrease on SB seems about right (he can already fire them once a second anyway). But Guile needs reliable anti airs, so I hope they don’t nerf his Fierce punch hit boxes. Although, if capcom fixes flash kick, they can nerf them all they want :smiley:

no. it doesn’t work at all. guile used to be a character that if he had charge you did NOT go into the air. Because if you were anywhere in the vicinity of guile while he had a charge you would get flash kicked no question. oh and it did not lose to any jump in attack because it had actual invincibility.

also, sonic boom is ass compared to st (in which it was already nerfed). don’t understand why people complain about it’s supposed lack of recovery when it was a third less in st where he was low mid.

Guile doesn’t need nerfs in this game. he arguably needs buffs along side the rest of the cast to bring them closer to powerful feeling characers.

@Fulaani- Guile definitely does not need buffs. He is extremely solid. Nerfs that wouldn’t break him back to vanilla status could include (and have been mentioned) less meter built on booms; slight damage reduction on some things; like GHK? or FK? s.hp?. And that is about it. lk.FK has plenty of invincibility as a late aa or close range anti-fb/anti-poke

rose builds meter faster than guile, she can ultra with a fireball on screen, she needs to get nerfed in this aspect.

I have no problem with that lol. Her U2 makes Brainless look like Shakespeare playing chess with Stephen Hawking.

I just wish they would make FADC Sonic Hurricane possible without needing god-like execution to do the backdash… I’m usually better off when I just don’t attempt it :frowning:

I also wish they would make upside-down kick throw-invincible -___-…

Don’t feel like he needs any major nerfs though… I mean I know I just suck but I hardly feel like Guile is too strong :frowning: Once the opponent gets in I’m so free…

Imo bring back the overhead property of the Upside down HK like SF 2. Guile IMO is good but he does have a bad wake up game. No answers for cross-up. All you can do is guess the ambiguous cross-ups and get ready for tech. If EX FK had some invincibility then you could escape the “wakeup” but that would make guile too strong i think.

EX Flash Kick has (and has always had) 5 frames of invincibility.

He is completely viable in 3rd Strike. He is fairly good too. You just don’t know how to play the game.

I’d hate to see Guile get nerfed at all. If anything, I’d like to see some quicker recovery on his FK’s. I hate it that I can get punished on my lk fk on wiff and at max range.

If you’re whiffing lk fk and your opponent is punishing you at max range then it’s not the move that’s at fault, it’s your positioning.

Oh and Rose’s U2, you know you can just do a cr.jab a little bit inside cr.mk range when one of the orbs is above her head and just knock out both orbs all together.

Yeah, I know it’s mostly my fault, but it makes me sick to see Ken and Ryu lp srk and recover so quickly. Unless they’re blocked, they can almost get away with it for free. I mean, you can jump over Guile, he can try to do lk FK, but if it misses, they can do whatever they want almost. Some characters can even dash in after that and do their best combos.

Kich I understand that but you cant escape crossups with ex flash kick you will get hit. I believe it only has a “frontal” invincibility because cossups disrupt it all the time. Unlike EX DPs those things have full body invincibility.

Truth, I seldom use FK or EX FK as an AA and use it mostly as a ground poke or combo only. Even as a ground poke, I’ll use cr.mp in place of that.

not to mention DPs auto correct better than FKs.
