Guile in Super Street Fighter IV (arcade version)

Fuck that BranH, bust out your T. Hawk!!!

so much sourness in this thread lately, i love it!

Who are you switching to, Fuson? Or do you still play?

However, like others, I’m masochistic / stubborn / lazy and won’t switch because… well… those last three words… yeah…

Definately agree though about claims that certain matches “got easier” and I think one of the more outrageous claims is that you can play footsies with some of these new top tiers. Branh brought up makoto. Yah, she has a slow walk speed, but playing footsies with her is really playing with fire. If you get tagged by a s.mp and your in the corner, guess what? s.mp xx ex hayate > up punch > EX axe kick > your ass just got stunned for whiffing a s.hp. You want to play footsies with the twins? Your “deep understanding” of footsies will only take you so far when their faster walk speed and target combos more than make up for whatever deficiency in understanding they may have.

On the flip side, just be realistic about what you are trying to accomplish. Being in a desert land, I’m not in a position to play or grow competitively, and, I really like throwing sonic booms. Like, a lot. A whole lot. Also, throwing sonic booms is enjoyable. On a side note, I like charging back, then throwing disc like projectiles with a very “forward punch” type motion. These things, along with a previously unmentioned love for throwing sonic booms, makes me want to stay Guile.

I love competition. I love winning. I may not win with guile, but I love me some sonic boom.

Unforuntately he sucks too

Flash Kick AKA Somersault is hella jealous

for the majority of matchups - Guile
for Ibuki - T Hawk
for Akuma / Viper / Twins / Fei - Evil Ryu / Ken

So anyway, for those sticking with the G, how is UDK buff anyway? Where do you find it most useful(vs who) and what do you use before and after it on hit or block?

The UDK buff is honestly unnoticable. I was using it a lot in vanilla and super and the instant low invincibility they gave it makes no difference. If your using it as a frame trap it’s no more effective now as it was then. What a lot of people are seeing is “Hey, UDK got buffed, so ima use it!” In fact this is just old technology that got some glitter thrown on it. If it’s hitbox was buffed, that would be a different story, but where it stand, it’s only useful against characters with a large hitbox who need to utilize crouch tech, like bison or abel. Then comes the comboability after the fact. If it doesn’t land a counter-hit, you got yourself a one frame link to a c.mp (it’s not too bad with practice honestly) and then hope they aren’t too far away to link a boom.

It’s not bad, but the main issue that was untouched, which is the same issue with his f.mk, is that it whiffs over a ton of lows and crouching hit boxes that it should theoretically hit. Essentially, not doing it’s f*&%ing job.

I was doing some youtubin and found this, at least for a early 1st impression it was pretty useful anyway:

No one is going to be playing AE when SFxT comes out next year. If Capcom was smart and wanted to get a little more life out of the dead horse, they should do some kind of patch where you can play ALL versions of your character like SF2 AE edition. The nerf bat to alot of the characters in AE just doesn’t make any sense

Yea that would be awesome, who knows maybe they plan to, its been done before and as they say AE is working “as intended” and there are no other versions of the twins so they would have to be very strong in order to stand up against all 3 versions of the game… The 120 dmg SHP Vanilla Guile has is one of my favorite moves ever.

I’m starting to feel like guile’s nerfs make him have to turtle even more, which is funny because capcom wanted to make ae more of a rushdown game. Since guile no longer gains meter as well no longer can players use flash kick fadc as much anymore. on top of that the damage on flash kicks are a lot worse so the risk and reward for throwing out a flash kick is not worth it. I was playing sagat and I was up close and overall decided not to try to flashkick through his crouching light kick, light punch, uppercut type combo because if I miss or trade either way I take a ton more damage than sagat would. No longer do I try doing cross ups on characters with uppercuts because the full damage I do if I land the combo is equal to the damage of one lucky mashed shoryken. So now I realized my guile playstyle has really shifted from a sonic boom, then dash up close style to now just being a straight turtle sonic boom, crouching hard punch style.

Hopefully that paragraph makes sense, I have terrible grammar skills.

I can take the U2 nerf.
I can take the Flash Kick damage nerf.
I can take the Spinning Back Fist damage nerf.
I can take the counter hit while a Boom is active.
I can take the air throw nerf.

However, the meter gain nerf is complete and utter bullshit. What the hell do I have to gain meter with now? Flash kicks? What the fuck. I went against a Dhalsim today and it was immediately noticeable. My 1 bar compared to his 2-3 at a constant rate. I feel I can’t even win the fireball war vs. certain characters anymore.

I don’t play Guile, but I agree completely. The Meter Gain nerf hurts the most, and now in AE I think the ONLY character that Guile can actually rival in a Fireball war is Rose, since her Soul Spark Meter Gain was nerfed too. It’s sad to say, but I’m pretty sure Guile will lose to almost every other character in the game (Besides Rose) in a Fireball War.

What makes even less sense is that they lowered charge time on sb in super specifically so Guile could win the fireball war, now with no meter and with counter-hit damage now he loses fireball war bad.

If you don’t believe me, go play a good Sagat player.

This is from when they made adjustments to Guile for Super.

“Guile is all about the Sonic Boom. But in SF4, when getting into a fireball fight he ended up on the losing side. That’s not really Guile. Even though his Sonic Boom is a charge move, he’s supposed to be the one to win in a fireball fight.”

Hope this help, Mabye SfxT will be better.

Fireball war? no way, u cant now. They build ex and you dont, not to mention their ex does counter hit way more often too since u dont have ex to stop them. I hate complaining but you are right, they did say exactly that going to Super, now they take it away, Guile is supposed to suck everyones nutsac now I guess. FACK

Not really fan of tag team assist and off-the-ground-combo game…but will try this once it came out.
