If you want to nerf guile’s sonic boom spam, you do one of the following:
More charge time (currently: SB is 55 frames. Ryu’s hadouken takes 45…)
More recovery
All the non-fb characters have ways to get around SB and fireballs in general: Dudley can duck, Elf/Hak/Guy can slide, Blanka can ball/slide, Rog can headbutt/TAP, Gief can lariat/green hand, Honda can butt splash, Bison can teleport/stomp, Cammy can hooligan, Vega can wall dive/slide/etc.
p.s; I don’t get why people want to nerf Guile’s one remaining fully functional special move.
My point was non-fb characters have perfectly viable ways of getting around Sonic boom spam. I’m not talking about Guile’s match ups neccesarily - that’s a different matter (and discussion) altogether.
Edit: I missed a few chars out, but apart from Makoto all non-fb chars have ways to get around fireballs.
Glad to hear that the “no meter” nerf is false. That’s a ridiculous change that would’ve cut Guile’s nuts off. I literally saw all the match up numbers in my head shoot up in favor of Guile’s opponents when I read that nerf.
Ahgama, it does build ultra guage. I am 100% sure it builds. However for balance sake its only on block or hit. For more balance and avoid whining, it only builds the opponent Ultra meter, and believe me, people still will whine about Guile…
Of course SB was going to build meter. That’s unheard of to NOT build meter. Regardless if it builds on contact or whiff, it’ll build much slower than it is now, that’s all.
I assume he’ll build meter normally from his FK and his normals…SBs will just take more time to build off of.
yes, characters like bison have ways of getting around shoto fireballs, but not sonic booms… they recover so fast i cant even ex psycho punish them at close range, dont get me started on headstomp, no comment on teleport. you cannot imagine how frustrating it is to get in for bison, and when you are finally close up by neutral juming and walking 1 step between the sonic booms, its still hard for him to do anything to sitting guile if the opponent has good reactions.
that said, booms not building meter is a stupid idea, but something has to change. i dont think nerfing damage is the right way either though, it’ll just fuck him up against some other characters.
When I was using Bison for the Shining C achievement, I found head stomp (and devil’s reverse) to be very useful against Guile personally. Teleport, yeah tbf that’s pretty lame option. The match-up is deffo not in Bisons favour, but I don’t think SB is the problem. Especially since Bison can get meter safely and then EX his way through.
I do think Guile needs a bit of tweaking (I have fought several good ones whilst using Vega, Makoto, Hakan AND Dan! ), but it’s hard to think of a fair and reasonable nerf. Take into consideration he only got a couple of real buffs (quicker SB charge time and hit box changes) and that Guile is top tier in Super mainly because everyone else got nerfed.
Capcom will probably just buff everyone else - it will be much easier than nerfing Guile, who is one of the hardest characters in the series to balance.
Smart Bison Mix up the Headstops and DR. Bison has plenty of options in this game against Guile. EX Psycho EATS EX sonic boom. Superman punch is one of the easiest Safe Jumps as well as NJ.RH, and LK Scissors kick is Safe and abusable. J.MK is a GREAT cross up as it shuts down Flash Kick. That matchup is not as easy as many people claim it to be when the bison player knows the matchup.
if they were going to nerf guile (which i dont think he needs, but thats a different issue) then I could see making his backfist 100 instead of 120, and maybe giving him 1 more frame of recovery on his sonic booms. maybe take 10 damage off his flashkick too.
No offence bro but to me it sounds like you have no idea what your talking about when using those characters. Try using Duck or Headbutt, Tap, Ex Dash on competent Guile players. You won’t get far. I have no idea about hakan, guy, elf. Since i don’t main them so i wont throw stuff out my ass and comment how they get in.
Also regarding Bison… You played him with C to shining C and now your an expert Bison. Congrats. How bout actually trying all those things you suggested against a super lame guile. See how well you do. Because you wont do well at all.
Duck is not a viable way to get in on guile and neither is Tap… Prepared to get Feirce Punch in the face with either of those things mentioned.
and IIRC at least Guy and Elf have a cross up. And Elf has a double Armor Dash and can wall jump full screen away.
You seem to underestimate Sonic Boom recovery stacked with high prioirty Normals and AA Normals along with Flash Kick… AND TBQH If attacking offensively more than you should and you’re not laming with guile then you just don’t know how bad it is for people to get inside…
There is no right or wrong way to play guile this is certain. But When you see A tier Guile or High tier guile… it’s when he’s at his lamest.
I have no fear facing any guile who comes to me, even if he’s a combo king…
Again, I’m giving examples about ways characters have of going through a sonic boom (or fireball) - all those moves I spoke of either go under, over or right through them. I am not talking about match ups or getting in on Guile neccessarily.
And I have fought Guiles who know what they are doing - it is a tough match. Yes his SB is good at locking people out and yes he has good normals in terms of priority (but damage is low) - but that’s because his cross up defence is bad: Guile’s supposed to be hard to get in but once you do, its game over for the family man.
Going under is no good because guile recovers fast enough to fierce punch, while your still ducking. Same with jumping over…sure you can safe jump c.Hp but then if he has FK charged your gonna eat that.
Sure They can jump or go under at full screen but the point is going past those booms at mid screen, Where Guile is most dominant.
Retarded idea. That would make Guile too unbalanced, you’d also get a load of people whining about how they’d want hadouken feints. Then there are the non-fb characters, they’d want some sort of feint and that would be a pain to do.
You’re basically saying that capcom should stick another entirely new layer of gameplay mechanic into the game.
I’d like lk FK to have no forward movement and be lower with better recovery. I want to smack Akuma outta the fuqqin air when he starts with his devil flip mix up game. If you FK, he lands behind, combo. If you block, he my throw or do his palm strike and jab jab devil flip again for MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYBE a cross up, MAAAAAAAAYBE the same deal, MAAAAAAAAAAAAYBE a throw. I just wanna kick him. I wanna kick him and make him regret coming in. Then I’ll have to deal with his keep away game, but it’ll be much easier now when he can’t rely on his hurricane kick to get him away any more.
Anyway, that’s just me being greedy. I do hope they don’t turn his U1 back into Vanilla style. Keep the damage buff on it! It’s the only reason I go back to it for some match ups!
