Guile General Discussion: Go home and be a family man

It does tend to trade more though so I think it’s supposed to be used for closer jumps. If you have a hard read you should probably use the heavy one.

What does everyone think of Back HP (his old stand fierce)? I love this button lol. I use it a lot to build my v gauge. Seems to me like I get more in a round than any other crush counter I’ve used in this game.

I think Guile completely reks Nash in SFV lol

Edit: Made a short Guile montage today

What are Guile’s Crush Counter combo? I only know 3:

Neutral HP -> Forward Down HK -> Somersault Kick
Forward HP -> Forward HP
Back HP -> Critical Art

Is there anything else? What is the best punish after blocking something like a Heavy Shoryuken?

Not sure if it’s the best but for a meterless dp punish I use f.hp dash st.hp cr.mp flash kick. Does 312 damage, 504 if you cancel fk into CA. You need to be careful not to do the f.hp to quick or you will go under the opponent.

Is it just me or does Guile not feel quite as oppressive as he used to? I guess maybe I’m still adjusting a bit

He definitely has to play more reactive than he used to. He used to set the pace with his zoning and now it’s more he reacts to the pace of his opponent. It doesn’t necessarily make him bad or whatever, but it’s definitely a different feel for Guile that I can’t remember having in any iteration of him. Took me a very long time to get used to.

Yeah I’m still getting used to it tbh. Cr Hp being an 8f startup is really hard to get used to. There have countless times where I’ve thrown an ill-advised boom and ate a full jump in punish because of it; that has been the biggest adjustment for me, being more strategic about boom placement. I will say that his corner control still feels really solid (I like to play a really aggressive Guile and work all my opponents to the corner).

Has anyone done any testing with VS as a meaty tool (the idea being make them block on wakeup so you get a free mix up)? I feel like there may be some potential there. I’ll teat it out some this evening

There’s one setup I posted in the tech thread https://youtu.be/j3NwsXZizVc

Quick question. Do Guile’s regular booms recover faster in V-trigger compared to normal?

i believe so.

Yes. 36f rather than 38f, i.e., 2f quicker and +2f advantage on hit (+10 rather than +8).

Are they +3 on block rather than +1?

Good to know, thanks.

No idea - that’s all the data @Gilley dropped on VT booms, unfortunately.

I went into training to try and find out. I set Vega to do his st.lk(3 frame) as a guard recovery action then threw a boom in VT and did cr.lp(4 frame) after. If it was +3 the cr.lp should win and if it was +1 it should trade. It traded every time I tried, so I would think it’s still +1 on block.

Word. That’s a bit disappointing, but I suppose the increased recovery + hit advantage makes up for it in many ways

I heard Dieminion on stream earlier talking about how it took him TONS of matches just to even get a feel for the character, I can certainly relate to that lol

It took me like a week or even a week and a half to even win matches kinda consistently.

It’s taken me even longer than that. I’m really streaky with him atm. There will be times where I’ll win 15 in a row and feel like I’m finally hitting my stride, then I’ll lose 20 in a row immediately afterwards lol

Has anyone got a link to the first to 10 between Chris G and F Champ? Want to see how he deals with Dhalsim.
