Peter “Combofiend” Rosas here with some insight on our newest character for Street Fighter V, Guile. Will our flat topped family man be able compete with the roster in SFV? Lets find out.
Now Guile has only ever had two specials - the Flash Kick and the Sonic Boom. Because Street Fighter V is more offensive based, we have decided that controlling all of that air space with Flash Kick was too good. To fix this, the start up of Flash Kick has been up’d by 30 frames across the board and the hitbox has been toned down to not be as strong. But do not fret, Flash Kick has the same input as Ryu’s Tatsumaki Senpukyaku.
Guile’s Sonic Boom was also seen as too good. To fix this, Sonic Boom is no longer a charge move but instead motion based, similar to Ryu’s Hadouken. We also decided to stack an extra 20 frames of recovery to his Sonic Boom across the board.
Winning with Guile may prove to be a bit more work but it will also be that much more rewarding. This is Peter “Combofiend” Rosas signing off.
With the game being focused on rush down as the only viable way to play, I see Guile being trash. They made zoning overall weaker in this game as it seems Combofiend sees it as “lame play”. There’s no way Guile is gonna be an offensive boom user as that’s Nash.
Please keep his b.lk. Without this command normal he can’t come forward as easily.
Keep df.hk from SF4.
V-Skill - A forward moving strike move similar to Vega/Karin’s which allows him to do a nice damage, no charge combo.
Give him a move that has the same input as Decapre’s air spiral arrow.
V-Trigger - Another one that cancels the need to charge specials.
df.hk, crush counter, air throw. Do it.
Make b.hk (upside down kick) a crush counter too.
Super - a nice and simple sonic hurricane with a 2x qcf motion will be very strong for Guile.
Very hard to predict what they are going to change with Guile. I expect he might not change too much, just because of how much they changed Charlie already. Sounds like they’ve made extreme changes to Balrog though, so who knows?
I hope Capcom will give Ryu/Chun/Cammy treatment to Guile, except with a new cool outfit (that’s very likely judging by the silhouette teased). No big changes outside V stuff.
A military with this haircut? Nope, flat top is already badass and his main signature. Just give Guile a cool jacket or that general suit and we are good.
