yesterday I landed j.fk, c.mp, ultra. WTF, my friend and I were like WTF on msn right after I landed it. I asked him if he had pressed something on his ryu, he said no, he was blocking all the time. From what I’ve heard here, such thing is impossible. any comments?
If cr.mp was both counter-hit and meaty it could combo. But no, that combo is impossible according to the frame data because the counter-hit would be off the j.hk, not the cr.mp. And you can’t do it without counter-hit because cr.mp is +6 on hit at max meatiness.
We took this to the lab awhile back. I usually use back fist. If it hits them just slightly off the ground, sweep, or c.strong for an air reset. If they are near the corner you can do df.HK > ex flash kick. You can also do super or ultra if they are near the corner, but this is tricky (you have to keep youre down charge after releasing focus and go straight into dash ultra/super, unless it connects REALLY high.)
@ kikuichi - naw, you cannot air throw unfortunately
So I feel kinda like a tool. Never realized you could FA2 > c.mp xx rh.fk or FA2 > s.fp xx lp.sb (timing is -very- strict on the fp > boom).
Focus attacks have gotten marginally more useful to me as Guile.
Sure as hell does more damage than FA2 > neutral jump back-throw…
Do overhead kick -> cr.mp (s.hp for people it hits meaty, like shotos, Sim, and Chun) xx lp Sonic Boom (-> cr.hk/backfist in the corner).
Honestly, I’d rather do 8 less damage and 40 less stun and not rely on a not-so-reliable 1-frame link (for me at least, my execution isn’t up to hitting that 100%).
yeah, any dedicated guile player should learn the upside down kick follow ups imo
If you plink the reverse spin kick on the first frame after the dash after the FA you can get anywhere between 2-7 frames to play with, instead of the regular 1 frame link. ALWAYS do it to chun/dhalsim.
Anyone ever notice how it’s harder to 2-in-1 the c.strong after a lvl3 FA than a lvl2 FA
Even simple one-frame links people don’t reach 100% accuracy in landing; it seems impractical to practice something that is actually a bit up there on the difficulty level of 1-framers given the time between the b.rh and c.mp. Even if you could hit it with 70% proficiency, it’s still not worth the risk for 7 damage (corrected: it’s actually 7 damage more than just c.mp xx rh.fk, previously said 8 because I’m bad at basic math ^_^;;).
Personally, when the damage difference is that minor, I can’t think of any reason to not just go for what’s guaranteed.
First of all, plinking makes it a 2-frame link. Second of all, it’s completely unpunishable unless they mash DP. It’s not like you’re linking a flash kick or anything, it’s a goddamn sonic boom. Third, in the corner you get a cr.hk too. Fourth, I’d be more worried about hitting the cr.mp so they don’t reset and getting charge for the flash kick than I am about hitting the 1-frame link. Fifth, like gilley said, on a lot of characters (Chun, sim, and shotos) it’s a really easy link (like 4 frames). You can even do a s.hp instead of cr.mp for an extra 40 damage!
You can do overhead kick -> s.lp xx sonic boom to make it a 2-frame link and practice.
1-frame links are possible to get consistently if you practice. Guiles’ cr.lp to cr.mp is a 1 frame link, and you have to have that down to play Guile anyway.
Yeah, if you can get s.hp instead of cr.mp it’s beefy damage too. And then with cr.mp mid-screen versus a few characters I know you can get a backfist at the end too. Do you know which ones? I know you can do it on Rog. Are there characters you can do overhead kick -> cr.lp/s.lp xx boom -> backfist? Or does it not matter whether you use cr.mp or s.lp for the spacing?
upside down kick > s.hp > boom is a lot more stun/dmg than c.mp > fk
i often dash cancel the boom for a sweep.
im not going to post them all cuz they’re all in the guile forums. but there are a lot that are well worth learning that are not very hard.
against rog: focus > upsidedown kick > c.strong > boom > backfist works mid screen and does like 370 after a lvl 3 focus i think. really ez.
against sim: focus > upsidedown kick > s.fierce > boom > backfist works midscreen and does retarded stun, this one takes a little more timing
rufus/guile: focus > upside down kick > c.strong > boom > step kick works mid screen
chun: focus > upside down kick > s.fierce> boom - SUPER ez on chun of some reason, her big ass legs make the link easier or something
edit: see post 58 in this thread for some crappy FA follow up list i spent like 90 minutes on months ago
Thank you very much for that list. Saved me a bunch of work.
I’m assuming that you tested s.lp xx sonic boom -> backfist on everyone, right? So you’re pretty sure those are the most damaging character-specific combos possible?
I said the same thing awhile back. But at the very least it’s important to get down for corner combos when they pop up. Guile is a beast in the corner, and landing a lvl 2 FA > UDK > c.mp xx boom > sweep is HUGE damage… especially considering you got it just because your op stuck out a poke at the wrong time.
I can land that stuff solid now though. Definately /second the notion of ALWAYS doing the s.hp link on chun and sim, but for other honorable mentions: it’s really easy to land it on viper anytime, and if you ever smack a shoto with a level 3, it’s crazy easy then too.
i made that list when i couldn’t watch the nicovideo guile FA follow up thingee:
i just went through trying everything on every character, the video i linked is probably a better source. The one combo i found that they don’t use is upsidedown kick > s.jab > s.fiercex2 (this is better than s.jab > boom > backfist). Which works on sagat, abel, and gief. (contrary to my post, this combo DOES work on lvl 2 FA).
Some of the follow ups in that nico video clip are really hard. The ones that end in sweep midscreen are very, very fucking difficult.
Subsections imply that a combo has a character-specific followup.

Does this look right?
Does the backfist work on people that cr.hk works on? Or is that the only possible followup? Because if it’s possible and easier I’ll make a note of it.
Edit: Combos added for Seth and Gouken
I think these combos are important to Guile’s game and maybe should be listed on the front page.
Seth: b.hk -> s.lp -> boom > backfist
Gouken: b.hk -> c.lp -> c.mp -> fk or b.hk -> c.lk -> s.lp -> s.fierce
back fist works on honda and is easier than sweep. Against claw im not sure if back fist works, same with viper.
i should practice the sweep combos though, those are pro
Does b.hk -> cr.lp -> cr.mp xx flash kick work on anyone else? That would do better damage than both just cr.mp xx flash kick and b.hk -> cr.mp xx lp Sonic Boom.
I’ll test this if no one else does, but if you feel like helping, go for it.
here’s a little excerpt from my old post:
Here is the combo from guiles hard trails:
b/f.HK, c.LP, c.MP, FK(HK) (319 dmg, 505 stun) - abel, akuma, blanka, cammy, chun, claw, dict, fei, gen, gief, gouken, honda, rose, sagat, seth, sim
b/f.HK, c.LP, c.MP, FK(any) (274 dmg, 450 stun)*** - boxer, dan, elf, guile, ken, ryu, sakura, viper
*** less damage to certain characters because the FK is too far away to deal its full damage.
*
i agree that we should add these FA follow ups to the front page
EDIT: uh, im missing rufus in that list… i wont be able to test this against rufus until late tonight, not sure which category he falls into
I’ve been messing around with some fun links but i’ve gotten stumped on the timing for this one.
Sonic boom xx Focus Attack.
Theres been situations where i was able to sonic boom and link a lvl 2 focus crumple for 2 hits during training and online play, and varing success at following up with an ultra because of the tendency to miss the link.
Im going to guess that this is a one-link combo but the uses are limited. any insight to those who tried this?
EX Sonic boom gives slightly more frames to execute the Focus crumple but the timing is still tight, and its a waste of 3 bars heh.
Still a fun idea no?
If you can hold out a little longer, I’m going to be making another combo video that shows this technique(hint distance is the key). I have a bunch of combos using it. I can get up to 23-hits with no super/ultra. I’m probably going to try and work on the video during the christmas break.
