Guile Combo/Tech Thread: Do Your Best

Guile’s pretty basic with meterless combos. Doesn’t really have many links unfortunately

Punish combos:
lk>mk, c.LP xx FK
s.hp, c.mp xx SB/FK
c.lk, c.lp xx FK
df+hk, FK
s.mp, s.lp xx SB

Crush Counter combos:
s.hp, df+hk, FK
f+hp, dash, s.fp, c.mp xx SB/FK

Guile’s CA is unsafe on hit vs. anyone with a 7f or less CA up close or in corner. They can eat the entire CA, quick rise, and counter with their own CA guaranteed during the recovery. So that sucks.

Most people should know you now can chargeless boom by activating vtrigger and pressing vtrigger again but just noticed you actually can change speeds of the charge less booms

It seems b+vt is the speed of LP boom, vt same as mp boom and f+vt is a heavy boom.

So fk and sb are 45f charge; ca is 40f.

Also, turns out Guile has one of the fastest forward walk speeds in the game. Looks like only Vega is faster.

I’ve yet to fully test it, but in SF4 you’d do: b(charge) f f b f+ppp
i.e., charge, then dash, then go :b: :f: + :3p:

From what I can interpret, TOOLASSISTED is suggesting that you charge, then dash, then do the whole CA motion. i.e., b(charge) f n f b f b f+p

Edit: if that’s the case, this might be at or over the limit for human execution. I think he’s (it’s?) hiding the execution for the CA in the 12f leniency window for the first part of the CA. That’s assuming I understand anything coming out of TOOLASSISTED.

Edit2: fucking Gilley :wink: Hitbox is definitely +1 for Guile at this point.

I think combos like this are quite relevant though. I haven’t had many jump ins but plenty of corner crush counters and I decided this was the best way to go about getting damage without being too flashy and dropping the combo online.

Did a quick write-up of common meaty setups for Guile since it’s useful to have in written form.

Most of these are blatantly stolen from the video PAN did on him, though I found a couple more things.

Spoiler

Sweep (first hit connects):

s.MP (quick rise)
Counterhits everything.

b.LK (back rise)
Very spacing dependent. Can lose to jabs if not timed properly. Might be better to throw booms most of the time.

whiff c.HK - s.MP (CCH sweep)
Counterhits everything.

Grounded flash kick:

Dash forward - s.MP (quick rise)
Counterhits everything.

Dash forward - c.MP (quick rise)
Counterhits everything.

Dash forward - c.HP (quick rise)
Counterhits everything.

Dash forward - f.MK (back rise)
Counterhits everything.

Dash forward - whiff c.MP - whiff s.HK - c.HP (no recovery)
Counterhits everything.

EX boom:
Note: No completely canned setups here, since the travel time of the boom affects the setup timing. You’re gonna have to eyeball it.
The following setups work though:

Dash forward - slight delay - f.HK (quick rise)
Beats everything if done properly.

Dash forward - dash forward - s.MP / c.MP / f.MK /b.HP (quick rise)
Beats everything if done properly. Can also be delayed to manually time the setup.

Dash forward - dash forward - f.HK (back rise)
Counterhits everything.

Back throw:

s.HK (recovery)
Counterhits everything.

Slightly delayed b.HP (recovery)
Crush counters everything.

Whiff s.HK - whiff s.LP - slightly delayed c.HP (no recovery)
Counterhits everything. Requires manual timing, but c.HP has 5 active frames so it’s fairly easy.

Forward air throw:
Dash forward - s.MP / c.HP

Didn’t do the VT-setups yet due to laziness.
If anyone else have anything to add, feel free. I’ll update this post in that case.

Edit: for real though, it doesn’t look (at a glance) like there’s time for anything else unless you VT cancel the b.hp.

I never have used a charge character before. i can throw booms on will and flash kicks. but doing them after even say couching medium punch is a task.

anyone got any tips i been stuck on trials with jump in hard kick > standing medium punch > crouching light punch > hard boom i can’t get the boom to come out at all.

any advice learning a charge or a routine i should do everyday till it clicks? would be much appreciated
