Guile Band Wagon

I wish I could say the same thing… I main dictator and the majority of my fights are against guile and ryu. And as dictator guile is my demon… so many guiles…

Shoto scrubs are infinitely more annoying than Guile scrubs. Shotos can occasionally abuse stupid/random tricks and get somewhere once in a while whereas a Guile scrub just dies horribly vs. anyone. Especially the ones who try to land psychic FKs all day. He simply doesn’t cater to scrub play as it requires solid knowledge of fundamentals and spacing/zoning to even be competent.

I mostly switch between Dudley and Sakura (fun, super rushdown style…low on tier lists), but I’m sick of working with so many disadvantages, so I’m starting to learn to play Guile (one of my least favorite matchups for everyone I play). I don’t really know why some guys are saying that Guile’s hard to play as. As long as you don’t mash and have a decent understanding of the game, Guile is one of the easiest characters to play. So, like…for people who have never played Street Fighter, sure, Guile is bad to begin with. For anyone who knows basic Street Fighter theory, Guile isn’t that difficult. His sonic boom recovery time so awesome that all anti-fireball strategies that can be applied to all other fireball characters are totally scrapped here. It makes it easier to tell when it’s safe or not to throw a sonic boom. His anti-airs are ridiculous. His air throw absolutely insults what I know about physics and distance. He doesn’t have low health, so you can make mistakes. His speed is good enough for running away and his jump is one of the most natural feeling jumps in the game (that’s probably preferential, though). I know it sounded like I was giving my reasons as to why Guile is top tier, but they work both ways. He’s definitely not vanilla Sagat since there are literally ten “best” characters in Super (although I think it’s between Guile, Balrog, Bison, and Honda). But no one should forget that terrible players are terrible players. Horrible Sagats in SFIV were just as bad as horrible Guiles in SSFIV.

But…if not Guile, who’d be the easiest-to-play character in the game? Balrog?

As a sidenote, though (I said this before), I would never recommend Guile to someone who wants to get into fighting games, but is a beginner. Playing Guile seems to not teach you basic fireball fundamentals. When I play Ryu, I really have to think about when to throw fireballs or not. He’s put in such a vulnerable position. As long as the Guile player is throwing light sonic booms and isn’t throwing them point blank, you can totally forget about being unsafe. This doesn’t really explain the fireball game that well to beginners. They’ll instantly think that projectiles are too good (definitely not a truth).

Also, I think Guile might be the most discouraging character in the game. Every time I play ranked match online using Guile, there’s always someone that just stops trying. This one Cody just couldn’t deal with the booms. Trying all he could do. When he was down to the end of his life in round 2, he just started walking forward, right into the wall of projectiles. Something like that seems to happen every time Guile happens. Does anyone else experience this kind of thing?
