Guile at evo 2010

Congrats to the great showing guys! Good stuff.

Wow; welcome to troll-ville, population 1. I am guessing you get zoned mad hard and can’t get around it. AmIrite?

Thanks Gilley

Me and many other Guile players disagree sir.

Hell, just watch the matches and you’ll see exactly why it’s a bad match for Guile.

yes, good job guys

Sim is not as bad as Abel but it’s close. Akuma close kinda deal

Change your handle now

ok, i’m back from my “not maining guile in order to find my secondary” hiatus. i’ve settled for a combination of rose, juri and sakura. juri for some of guile’s bad matches like dhalsim and viper, rose because her ultra is so cheap and i like her normals, sakura just for pure rush down. i’m still not going to use guile as much…but i enjoy posting on the guile forums more than any other place on srk, so i’m gonna hang around here.

anyways, i had a free weekend. i got some corona’s and stayed up until ridiculous o’clock for 3 days straight here in the uk. i watched every ssf4 match on the evo stream :). here’s my thoughts:

i noticed dieminion has started posting on here. you should have gone to evo bro, you would have made top 8 imo.

geom, wtf happened? i thought you were going? i think you would have faired very well too. without both you guys there was less guile’s in the top 32 than i was expecting.

warahk, unlucky against art. he knew he’d been in a real fight. i personally would have thrown out a couple of random flash kicks as he was poking like crazy, almost obviously at points. but what do i know, lol. i remember you always said how bad the dhalsim match was, even in vanilla. seems like you are being proven right. it does seem to have got worse since vanilla though and i can’t put my finger on why. i’ve been struggling against him a lot recently. in vanilla i didn’t seem to as much, even against high calibre dhalsim players.

dagger was unlucky. he started very strongly, then justin seemed to get to him. the real reason he got so unlucky was more down to the fact he had to save his tournament life within minutes of losing to justin. he was probably still feeling the tension. then not only did he have to play abel, he had to play ryder (imo the most in form abel in the u.s right now). that os tech bait into breathless was probably the most godlike thing outside of gamerbee that i saw all weekend on the stream. speaking of which, it needed someone from overseas to beat justin because it seems all the u.s players are intimidated (and i think a bit too intimidated) by him.

lamerboi was a roller coaster ride of emotions lol. i bet that’s the last time you do a random flash kick when you have a life lead with 3 seconds to go.
well done beating arturo and ryder. the flash kick, fadc, ultra 2 in the corner against ryder was very nice (and very important too if i remember correctly). the match against art was extremely nervy…but you clutched it out.

anyways. the main thing i learned is that it’s all well and good being able to fadc sonic hurricane and know everything there is to know about your specific character. but if you don’t have that extreme mental strength that someone like daigo has, you aren’t going to finish first at a tournament like evo. THAT is also the main reason daigo’s guile managed to go even with justin that time, even though his guile was so basic. another example is how those VF players won sf4 sbo finals. of course you need to have above average execution too. but it all comes down to a combination of mental strength and fundamentals.

congrats to everyone and i hope i see you come back even better and stronger at evo 2011 (or maybe even at evo japan :P)

Good job Guile army!

It was heartbreaking watching Lamerboi lose. But man, he can play. Next year, Lamerboi for final 4.

Did you change my handle?
Was I breaking any rules? If so which ones?

i hope this a joke. throwing out brainless in a 50/50 situation is hardly something to be admired. if dagger had thrown, back dashed, neutral jumped, or jumped backwards before the freeze frame he would’ve been caught as well. if he hadn’t ryder would’ve suffered flash kick damage.

id like to ad that crouch teching with mp is a good idea against abel since it can be special cancelled into flash kick if you happen to throw it out before the freeze frame.

fuck abel.

Agreed.

Go to his utube chanl, he can’t get into d plane due to passport prob

lol, nice to see you on the boards again Wikum.

I’ve only seen a couple of videos, but man, Lamerboi was pretty on point! Solid play, nothing fancy, but effective. Loved how after awhile he was just shutting all of Ryder’s movement down… meeting roll recovery with s.hp, and all around good use of backfists and booms. Nice to see an American Abel player using j.lp to jump in with. I hate that thing! I don’t even feel like attempting normal anti-airs when I see that thing.

Absolutely fantastic play against Daigo too. Nerves can strike the best of us though.

lol at brainless. i see that someone’s had enough of abel

i think the reason i liked it was because i’d never really seen it used like that before. all of the good abel players on my buddy list prefer ultra 1, so i don’t really see breathless used that much. i tell them that breathless is almost definitely better vs guile, they don’t listen.

U1 Abel = 5-5, maybe even 4.5/5.5 in Guile’s favor
U2 Abel = 6-4 in Abel’s favor

The fact that U2 changes almost all of his tough matchups into favorable ones really annoys me. I can usually zone out the typical Abels with Booms, AA and normals (especially with stand Fierce as it pretty much stuffs everything he does and links into itself more often with Abel’s weird hitstun/hitbox) or pressure with safe jumps and closer range pokes, but once people hit Breathless and I’m anywhere nearby it’s hard not to crack waiting out a jump or escape. I do have a pretty decent average stuffing U2 with EX Boom/EX Flash Kick though

thanks warahk … i wanted to stay a bit longer to get some thoughts from you but something came up.

anywho i posted my EVO videos at youtube …

I concur as well

Gah I suck.

Would it make you feel any better if I said how happy I was to actually see you in person playing? I’ve always wished to see you play in person.

wow, watching that match between lamerboi and daigo, i can’t help but feel lamerboi should have won that match. he played really, really well the entire match, but did some weird things near the end of each match. oh well.
