I did it a few days ago. wasn’t too bad. only had 2 places where we all seemed to die. I just hit 41 yesterday so we’re gonna try the manor dungeon.
Anyone on a decent to good server WvWvW-wise with mid to high population? I’m currently on anvil rock with a couple friends and the server sucks a big one when it comes to pvp, need to get off this rock before they stop the free server transfers and I get stuck on a clueless server.
I’m on Fort Aspenwood. But it still takes eons to get into WvWvW. Last time I checked we were evenly matched with the other two, but we were still leading.
It’s a matter of wait forever, win… or don’t wait and lose it seems. You can only hope to be on a server that will even out and have some spots for the common folk when things settle in terms of matchups.
But 40s recharge? Yeah it’s good. But do projectiles include ranged magic? Seems like an AOE spell would negate it. But seems to be great if not OP vs Rangers. I hate Rangers.
My brother has a mesmer (that bum gets to play this game more than me ), and in WvWvW when he sees people trying to take potshots on people sieging from the walls, he can use feedback ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Feedback ) and lay down confusions on the rangers and they just take chunks out of themselves. Confuse is really good in pvp situations.
I really like ele so far. Funny thing in water combat, the tidal wave skill (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tidal_Wave ) in water attunement insta gibs a lot of mobs and take huge chunks out of other players because it hits multiple times with the dash (they didn’t seem to take in account it hits a lot of times). I’ve been playing around with staff ele and it’s also pretty good, because if you just swap attunements you have a whole other set of skills ready to go, making fights like against sentries, veterans, and some champion mobs doable solo. I still like the burst of the dual dagger ele though.
i might need to try dual dagger cause scepter/dagger damage seems subpar to me, i crit for like 3k. only thing i dont like about dagger main hand is the range of your attacks and abilities.
I like to use it in spvp and wvwvw with dual dagger and it seems good (though staff would be better if you wanted to play defense or lay siege on the people on the wall obviously), even though my base level isn’t too high at all (I love the level scaling). It’s really great for chasing down opponents, because of how versatile you are. If you want to engage you can cover a huge amount of distance with ride the lightning, then knock them down with skill 5, then swap to fire attunement (I think the fury on attunement swap trait would be good here) then fire dash, flame circle into flame grab and they should be really hurt. The basic attack on fire dagger also hits 3 times when up close and does similar damage to 1 staff basic attack, except there is no channel time and a much faster attack animation.
Taking arcane shield (block 3 attacks) would be very helpful, of you can save it when you see the opponent charging up a skill. It also is pretty beastly against burst dps classes like if you expect a thief to jump out on you. The dagger ele also has pretty good sustained dps since the cd on the skills are rather low, except for fire grab and you can always rotate around attunements to utilize your other skills for the cc. If you want to have even more burst, I also took arcane blast for it’s 1500 range and it instantly comes out so you can use it as part of your combo. I took some earth trait points for toughness. I think toughness might eventually be good for the ele, because of the healing sigil. If you take less damage,it would be easier to heal through spell usage.
Anyone around lvl 30 (or higher if you want) who wants to run story AC? My brother’s mesmer tried to run in solo to check it out and got stomped at the beginning. I wanna try it on my elementalist. I don’t think server matters since people can play on other servers I believe (just not for wvwvw).
what? really?
I’ve been hearing from some people in chat about guests in other worlds and even now some people are able to play in other worlds. On the wiki, it says to join a person in your party in another world. just right click then click join in.
what’s your ign? we can try to see if it works.
How’s the gameplay in this game? Any games you can compare it to?
my thoughts
[details=Spoiler]Pvp is pretty fun. spvp is fighting in small groups like GW1 and holding points on the map, and each map has something unique about it, like a boss monster you kill for points and last hit for a stat boost, or a point that makes sharks ally with you if you hold it. WvWvW is fun near the beginning of the match before things settle down or if the servers are evenly matched. If it’s one sided, one server can capture most of the map rather easily and fortify their stuff so they make it really hard to lose their land. But they have been matching up servers daily to find out how the matchups are at the moment.
The actual gameplay itself is sort of like GW1 (though the only other mmo I’ve played recently with roll and dodges, where you didn’t need to eat hits from mobs was Tera and Pso2), except there is a lot less skills to choose from and the subclass system is gone. How skills are determined are what weapons you are wielding for your class (you can also pick up weapons or do something like use a skill to equip grenades and flamethrowers to change your skill loadout), then you choose 1 healing skill, then 3 slot skills (think of it as extra class skills), and 1 elite skill. You’ll unlock the weapon skills rather fast, but the slot skills you actually need to search around for skill challenges or level up for. You can dodge attacks so you can roll and evade right before you take a hit and you won’t need to eat the hit, so if you see someone lobbing fireballs at you, gtfo. I actually managed to fight some enemies I would normally need a group for like the champion troll for group events, since you actually need to avoid damage, since the “trinity” in mmos is a lot less apparent in this game.So you mostly have to sustain and mitigate damage yourself.
Some classes like elementalist have healing skills for other people, but they don’t heal that much that you can tank and spank and have a cd, so you probably would throw out a healing geyser + rain, then switch attunements to do something like dps or cc and only go back to healing when you want to give your allies a slight health boost. Aggro is also hard to track, since I don’t think they explain how it’s mechanics work in this game.
Questing are just events usual, where when walking around you get a pop up about something happening and you can decide to run over there and do it. You can expect usual mmo stuff like kill this guy, defend this, etc but it does feel nice to see people run in to help with the quest. They feel like they can go by pretty fast when a lot of people jump in, though some dynamic events are zerg fests with enough people, but I do like some of the world bosses. Seeing a lot of dead player icons on the map actually makes me want to check out what’s over there.
Exploring is actual fun and there is incentive to do it, since you get exp and treasure for getting 100% on a map. There’s a lot of “jump puzzles” where you need to navigate around to see how you can reach something like a vista or a skill point.[/details]
Overall pretty fun so far. But I’m not a high level yet. Pvp is really easy to join a quick pickup game and WvWvW is pretty awesome to take part in a siege or somehow drive back a larger force from your keep. I do like how you don’t need to grind for gear in spvp, but the points you earn are just to buy stuff to make yourself look stylish. WvWvW your gear does matter since everyone is scaled up to 80, but you can still put the hurt on someone.
Not having to pray for a certain quest item drop, find a damn spawn point for a quest MOB, or run all the way back to an NPC just to turn in a quest makes this game so worth it so far.
Modern questing is the thing I hate about new MMOs the most and this game has it right.

did… you guys really not know you can play with people on different servers?
It’s like a clunky 3rd person shooter with some crap melee. Single player is quite boring and multi isn’t as good as dedicated fps/3rd person multiplayer games.
It’s ok, playable, over time I think you would get more out of it but I feel like I’m wasting time if I’m playing a game that isn’t stellar in all aspects. Got my refund 2 days ago after emailing support and expressing my dissatisfaction. Currently I’m playing nothing lol
Combat is a (much) more forgiving version of Demon’s Souls. Exploration is like a mix of WoW and Skyrim, though all maps are instanced but big enough where it’s not an annoyance. I’m not sure what else does dynamic events but GW2 > Rift’s events and definitely shits on Warhammer (which sucked anyway).
There’s a whole lot of customization possible with more options coming. Crafting is a necessity to level quickly.
Moreover, there’s no monthly fee and the real money items aren’t a must. Bigger bank slots and more character slots. Dyes and PVP are account bound.
it is that easy, i got my account jacked sometime between monday night and last night. I try logging in via the email i registered with and it simply states that my account name does not exist. I’m still waiting for a response
to clarify i didn’t not even get a “reset password” email from anet.
it just straight up jacked my account via brute force. shrug
Ran AC instance earlier holy fuck. I had to coordinate CC if two of those ghosts were up at any given time rotating knock backs and blinds.
Even had to chain stun some bosses with rocks or else we’d die.
I’m not sure I really like not having traditional roles… and aggro makes no sense at all even though its depicted in the wiki.
Popular joke is that the higher level a dungeon is, the easier it is. The difficulty on some of them need to be finetuned a bit.
