Guide to Recording Games

I do, is there anywhere I can upload them for people to d/l the actualy wmv file. Youtube totally destroys the original quality. (Those are actual screen shots though)

360 or ps3

No, you would have to go with something like the HD-PVR that Happauge sells for $250 (the cheaper ones only do over the air). Still the HD-PVR isn’t completely out of the price range of the original post (which said $120-200).

Still I think for most people who might be interested in this tuturial it’s important to remember that the average person doesn’t need HD recording for recording SF matches. You can get perfectly presentable quality for youtube use, or even to throw on a DVD from most capture cards, even as low as $50.

Yeah, like the poster said above you have to put both out from your 360. So I’ve got the HD running to my TV, but also the composite cable. Because the 360 outputs both. I’m not sure about what kinds of TVs would downgrade it to the composite out.

Actually now that I think of it, you wouldn’t be able to just use component into your TV and composite out into your PC, because I think that would output in B/W due to the RGB that the component uses.

arcade

Here’s a link to a sample recording with the Hava. It’s about 65MB about 1minute long. Remember I’m terrible at SF so dont critique my horrible gameplay!
If anyone wants to help me get better please let me know!:wonder:

I said Hava records in wmv initially, I was wrong. It records in mpg.

Enjoy!

how do you do sound capture from an analog source, i.e. a microphone to record trash talk/commentary

The Hava has a L/R audio input. If you want to record your chat, simply set your xbox 360 preferences to output your chat through your TV. All in-game sounds are recorded.

i record using this

normally it’s supposed to be used to play games on your computer but creates lag
so i split it using a Distribution Amplifier

i don’t have the ultra cool, expensive computers or HD TV’s so i can’t play HD quality :wonder:

does pretty good for me here’s some results

^^ seems to work well enough for youtube stuff.

I’ve got the Hauppauge HVR-1600 but the software that comes with it is terrible, any suggestions on what program to use to capture?

I use a Black Magic Intensity Pro on my Mac Pro using Final Cut Studio.

It has component and HDMI.

This looks awesome!!

Actually looks similar to what I aspire to do w/my computer once I get the cash (plus extra storage space). From what I’m gathering as long as the PCI/PCI-E video in card supports HDMI (which I’d like since I’m contemplating HD output in PC) then I’m probably good & in the clear. If I go the Linux route I’ll definitely look for my own way but if I take the easy route & go Windows your way definitely looks like a helluva template

Eh, I wouldn’t use Windows for hardcore video work.

Windows is good for games and office stuff, but for video editing I gotta stick to Mac.

Thanks aggrastat. I got the Hava Titanium HD Wifi yesterday from Best Buy ($120 after tax) because of the wireless feature, since I don’t have my consoles and computer in the same room. Got the Hava unit ready, just need to actually test the video feed, which I’ll do with a DVD player first, since I haven’t got any couplers or a AV selector. Hopefully everything works fine and the video looks as good as your sample one.

I read that the pelican av selector aggrastat has noticeable lag, so does anyone have any recommendation for a cheap AV selector with no lag and no drop in video quality? It’s really only for convenience, sinice I could just swap the cables in and out for the console. I only have a Wii and PS2 (no 360 or PS3, older systems are shelved) with component right now, so maybe I’ll get some vids up on youtube sometime soon. I’m not that great of a player though, so don’t expect much.

sounds good to me

Oh yea anyone tried the Dazzle?

This is interesting…

Anyone have any experience with this thing?

If you go to “Buy,” it says that these will start shipping out on April 20th.

Just bumping this up because I’ve been looking for a long time now on how to record direct feed while playing in HD and I found this guide to be very helpful

I bought the Hava Platinum HD and got it all set up with very little problems. Still trying to tweak some things like the vids skipping frames while recording which seems to be random so I’m not sure why that is happening. I also can’t seem to figure out how people are uploading vids to youtube with the HD button enabled when I upload mine they are all in HQ I tried using Pinnacle Studio 12 Plus to turn the files into mpg4 but it doesn’t really make it look any better.
