GTASF Organized Tournament Calandar

I thought it best to open up the floor to everyone as to thoughts on an organized tournament calandar for the GTASF. There are now multiple tournament directors across the GTA and no one is bothering to consult anyone else about dates. Everything is just being thrown out there. The result is going to be a severely burned out player pool at the rate we’re going. What I’d like to see is the tournament directors create an organized schedule (I guess from now until the rest of the year).

What I’d like to suggest is that the directors (for the sake of discussion they would be Dino, Vince, A&C create a schedule on a 3 week cycle. A month is a pretty long time to be waiting between tournaments but frankly I don’t want to hit up a tournament weekly or bi weekly. The key to keeping these things big is to make sure everyone can make it to every tourney and not many of the community can afford to play a week/bi-weekly circuit.

I’m pretty sure this is a shit show until The Infinity Hype tournament is done on 08/29 but after that I’m sure the directors can pull it together to create a schedule over the next four months that everyone can accomodate.

Thoughts?

Well, I had a lengthy coversation with Josh about this. I won’t go into detail about what I mentioned with him, but, I rarely put out tournaments and I always try to accomadate with the other ones already scheduled. (It was hard enough to pick a date with all the tournaments, so I intentionally picked a time that was literally empty 2 months ahead of time) I really have no more comments on this, as the other directors are having great success with their own tournaments. Of course, that isn’t a reason to get cocky and believe you should run a tournament so often. It just got all hectic when everyone feels like running an SFIV tournament.

Best of luck everyone with the resurgence of the scene.

+1 for this idea

I think this has been needed since SF4 came out. I am definitely up for this.

I’ll post my thoughts on this later in a few hours.

most useless post ever next to this one.

Well, the tournament calender is defintely needed. Or at least, some sort of restriction so people just can’t throw out tournaments every week whenever they feel like it.

Absolutely definately need this. Man, just trying to work out the dates for all the tournys, then trying to sort that around the rest of this thing called ‘life’ aint easy. Nice work Nagata.

Umm, we’re not a military organization. We can’t control anyone. It’s more of a helpful suggestion to help avoid tournament burnout, which has been a problem in the past. If the directors choose to follow it, then kudos to them. If they don’t, there’s nothing we can do to stop them, aside from asking people to boycott which would be pointless/petty.,

K, here’s my take on the situation.

The scene has resurrected itself, (thank you Street Fighter Four), and now we have a multitude of tournaments, casuals and most importantly new players. YAY! Good shit Capcom you fuckers.

Now, in some bizarre turn of events, we now have a gillion tournaments happening on an average of 0.5 seconds. Which is insane I know, however… it’s a little hard to plan for.

Cutting to the chase, my point is that those who regularly use this forum ought to not hold tourneys in rapid succession to allow players time to attend other events, perhaps new venues across the border.

Now wait a minute, put down that pitch fork my good man. I think I can say for all the players here that the recent directors have definitely earned their places in Valhalla along with the big burly guy with the sledge hammer in one hand. The recent slew of tournaments has been so great. Thanks guys. Well all except for Vince, he’s going to the fighting gamers hell where the only game to play is Shaq Fu.

However, wouldn’t you want to be able to attend other venues yourselves? Wouldn’t it be better to hold like 2 or 3 big events a year and make them super memorable like the recent SOGOs bonanza? It would make room in peoples calendars for other events perhaps outside the GTA and Hamilton areas.

Look at the current lineup, including evo. Iono about you guys but even if I wasn’t working part time on the weekends I’d still wouldn’t attend all of those events. It’s too much. All in moderation I say.

Like Anant says though, do what you want really.

Thing is it would be nice to have things organized. Although either way there is no way people are going to attend all that stuff.

Also Vince is shit and for me it was Tuesday haha.

Umm, I didn’t say necessarily say stop people. But directors that are planning tournaments on SRK in the same region, should be aware that if they are filling up a very tight schedule to try and restrict themselves from adding another tournament to the mix. If they don’t, it’s their choice, but it’s poor etiquette and thus compromising all the tournaments during that time. I may have used the wrong choice of words, but I know that you can’t stop people from doing what they want. So whatever. It’s just helpful for people to be a little more selective with how often they feel like running an event.

Just as a heads up me and the blitzman have been already planning to host Ranbats at ghetty on every 2nd friday for the locals who show up, obviously not to interfere with any of the tournaments that are beingheld during the weekends, but there is always alot of players on friday nights and all agreed that a Ranbat would be nice. I just need the final go aheads from the boss and its good to go,

sick i’ll definitely hit the ranbats up

I would too, that’s a great idea.

Dave - Tofu add me on XBL you scumbags (and i mean that with all the love possibly)

Tofu: are you the filipino/cambodian guy who kind of resembless Tin Tin that plays sagat at ghetty and you usually roll with your passy, if its you ill introduce myself ?

RanBats = Random Battles?!?!

Well I was simply running Monthlies for Soul Calibur, and we decided to include SF4. I was doing basically one per month, around my own schedule.

Now it seems like there continues to be “conflicts in schedule” with all these tourneys.

For July August I’m likely not holding any SC4/SF4 Tourneys at bleecker, since some resources wont be available (ie TVs).

The next Sogo event…I dont know. I don’t feel like being involved in it for now since others feel like they can do it on their own. I think I feel like Nagatz now :P…

Anyways you guys should have plenty of space and time for Tourneys the next two months.

Ranbats are Ranking Battles.

A great idea.

how does Ranbats work? u guys doing that today?

Ranbats are ranking battle tournaments that usually run weekly/bi-weekly.

There is a one time entrance fee. Once you pay, you can join any number of the ranbats of that saeson. This fee should be held by the organizer till the end of the ranbat season. The payout is like any other tourny.

Depending on how its run, the top 3-5 players for each tourny earn points and the top 3 in the end with the most points will win the pot

Ex:

ranbat july 1st
1st DarkDragon - 5 points
2nd Tigerlee - 3 points
3rd JS master - 1 point

The format is usually round robin, but single & double elim can be used.

You can enter the ranbats at any time > This means if u miss the 1st ranbat, you can still eneter the remainder.

**If you hold a ranbat at gety or even orbit, make sure you let the boss know cuz sf4 still makes alot of money for them and ranbats might shoo away potential long-term investing players. Make him know that ppl will be paying and playing alot and he’ll have no prob
