They’re paying me $70 an hour (God bless triple time) to sit here and do nothing because Bell can’t close their offices for one fucking day. As a result, I’ve got time on my hands and will be sifting through GTASF threads and recapping what I feel is worth mentioning:
JANUARY
TOURNAMENT RESULTS
The GTASF hit up Tokyo Game Action. We were supposed to have a large group going but I couldn’t make it and Stephen ended up taking Antoine, Roger and Eric 10 hours just outside Boston.

NOTES
Eric “JS Master” Liu wins a local Shanghai 3rd Strike tournament.
Sauga thread sets the record for least amount of posts in its history with 49. This comes after Anant comes up with the idea of editing original posts instead of making new ones. The thread is actually pretty interesting when you read through it though a bit confusing.
X-Sapphire is the first person to bring up the idea of Ranking Battles at ORBIT. The irony of that statement is mind blowing.
G3EVO holds their first tournament of the year. Their records don’t go back to January so I don’t have top 5.

NOTES
This one is obvious. The biggest story to come out of May was the controversy surrounding Samir’s alleged cheating at EVO East. It was contested by Henry Cen that Samir changed the damage settings in System Direction to give him an advantage. This spawned a near brawl at the venue and heated aftermath on SRK. You can read the thread here
Adil is banned from T8 after taking a cheap shot at me. The chain reaction from that banning are still being dealt with today.
THELORDGUY joins SRK. I still contend it’s one of the funniest avs on the forums.
There is a fantastic retrospective on the history of the Sauga scene done by DaDesiCanadian. I’m not doing multiple links to his posts (there are 3 parts spilling into the June thread) but they’re worth tracking down.

NOTES
We get a great piece of beef as Matt and Quan get into a big arguement about bets and why one guy won’t show up at the other’s house and blah blah blah. It’s pretty funny stuff watching Quan get heated. To the surprise of no one, Adil is smack in the middle of it all. This actually spills into almost 200 posts worth of bitching.

I haven’t really discussed this with anyone but I actually had two small panic attacks over T8 weekend and had to basically take some time for myself before I snapped. The first was before anyone even showed up. I got to the venue and waited for the owner to show up. When he got there I hit up the bank machine for the deposit ($1000) only to find out after trying to make two withdrawls of $500 each my account had been locked. When I went to call CIBC they told me that I had to come into a branch in order to have it unlocked. Of course that wasn’t possible with people starting to come in, the owner breathing down my neck for his money and the fact I was already parked and didn’t have actual cash on me to pay the toll. So basically I freaked, and the attendant caved on me having to hit up a branch. Ownership was really adamant about getting that deposit and had told me that I wouldn’t be allowed to bring in more equipment unless that was paid up front. Complete and total mess.
The second freak out was obvious, the power outages. I don’t think people quite grasped how close I was to a nervous breakdown. It wasn’t just the situation, it was the heat coupled with having what had to have been 30 people come to me asking not only about the power but other stuff as well. I honestly don’t know how I didn’t just snap and curl up into the fedal position. I’ve been directing in one capacity or another for 5 years and I have NEVER felt stress like that in my entire life. I’m honestly proud I was able to think on my feel that quickly re-distributing the power while having so many people hounding me because if I didn’t that would have been the end of the Friday.
To be continued…
