Grommet sticks for fighting games

@dv3

My stick will do all those things you asked for (japanese mounting pattern, 5pin connector, 6mm threaded top)

And I’ve got a Myoungshin on the way because everyone so far has said it’s better than the Crown. So I don’t see any reason to get a Crown. I will compare my grommet stiffnesses against the Myoungshin for this crowd, and against the Wico for the arcade crowd.

I didn’t mean “buy the crown”, I meant that you should look at it as your only competitor at the moment.

@d3v , there are other competitors in terms of leafswitch sticks in japanese format. But none with grommet +leafs, only pivot + leafs. The 2 GGG sticks that have both grommet and leafs are both overpriced and wico sized.

@jimmer , well if you say so, then you’re just “arcadepartsuk” and have only a similar company name and no affiliation with “arcadeworlduk”… not sure if it’s a wise move but if it’s your choice, good luck!

Glad you’re going to test your grommet in a side by side comparison with the wico and the korean models, but I hope you’ll soon disclose more info about your choice of rubber and the leafswitch type (and placement) such as having nylon plates retaining the leafs or rather thin metal leafs, or some fiber composite, phenolic whatever…

My “investigations” were ortiented only towards modern joys being modded to accept leafs, so that’s why I didn’t see that defender stick of yours. Cool idea to mod a williams stick with those flat white plastic bearings but why didn’t you also groove those high lubricity plates , you don’t want solid flat plates contacting their whole surface with the steel plate, plus they will embed dirt particles if there’s no way to evacuate debris and dust. Better than steel on steel though!

is this the prototype of the saxamp model sold at arcadeshop.de? I didn’t any pics of the guts, that’s why I’m asking. The leafs look rock solid though.

The only reason I can see someone wanting to use a classic arcade wico grommet-style joystick to play a fighting game is if they A) have never played a wico grommet stick-based classic game, or B.) have never played a fighting game.

Do it anyways. Lots of people would be interested in the random brain dump I think. Would be interesting to get the background info on various random Chinese buttons and whatnot too like whomever actually makes the Ultimarc GoldLeaf button.

But for anyone who wants a grommet stick that fits in a standard JP mounting bracket with no drilling involved, the 303-FK is the only option.

I completely agree concerning the 303fk. by the way, the older cwl304 is rather unreliable from what I’ve read, the leafswitches being the culprit, which seems logical since they have absolutely no retaining plates at all, which leads to premature bending. A bad leaf design that look like cheap clones of the ones seen in the asahi seiko sticks:

@‌energizerfollower

why do I have the impression this is sarcastic?

It’s not, actually, though it does kinda read that way now that I think about it…

But seriously, a brain dump info post on that stuff would be awesome. :slight_smile: There’s virtually nothing out there on these in English near as I can tell.
