This book, Count Zero and the Dune series solidified my love of science fiction.
Someone get on making a science fiction thread.
No… I’ve never read Gibson. Been wanting to finish Stevenson before I get into him. But I WILL. I started reading a short story of his online, though. I need to go back and finish it. Thanks for the reminder.

Was the movie good?
There’s only been one good remake of Clash of the Titans, and it’s a Canadian cartoon.
Never liked the term Hitchslap.
Both have days named after them…
…seems like they get some rep.
Thurs/Thor’s day
Wednes/Wodin’s/Odin’s day
Hell, even Tyr and Frigg got in on it.
Sun Moon and Saturn had dibs on the other three.
I always wanted to but could never find the neuromancer book to buy/rent
That’s why Wednesdays are my favorite weekdays.
I meant more in terms of comparison to contemporary religions.
Norse Mythology is better than everything, but a lot of people down Christianity just because of the worshipers. If you look at the mythology in a vacuum, it’s actually pretty bad ass.
Samson. You will know him by the jawbone in his hand, and the hundreds of bodies that follow him.
Jesus. Resurrects others and himself at no mana cost, cures ailments for free. Don’t start selling and buying shit in his house though, or else he’ll start flippin’ tables.
Moses and crew. Summons locusts, frogs, etc. Controls lightning and water. Boils, pestilence, instant death of first borns and other great debuffs.
Song of Songs. Shit makes Brazzers look like Saturday Morning Cartoons.
Leviathan and Behemoth.
Revelation. I’ll admit, it’s not as bad ass as Ragnarok, but it’s not bad as far as endgame scenarios go.
Man, I wish the Book of Mormon had more of those bad ass moments. Most of 'em are just Moroni chewing other people out.
"Dum, dum, dum, dum
Dum, dum, dum, dum"
Funny enough I was looking up things on pet life expectancy and pet loss, and Mormons believe that all animals go to heaven because they have no concept or decision making process of what right and wrong are, so they are therefore innocent.
I’m not certain on their stance on unborn children though.
shouldnt the titans be gods since they are more powerful then the gods? Makes no sense a god is supposed to be invincible and cant not be defeated by anything.
thing about unborn children, says everyone will be judged when they die, so im guessing how will they be judged if they never lived
The Titans didn’t have shit on Uranus.
No homo.
Tell that to Kratos.
But even in Greek Religion proper wasn’t Chronos afraid of Zeus and the other gods over throwing them so he ate the gods he could find?
Actually, it was his short story collection, Burning Chrome that I found online and started reading: http://project.cyberpunk.ru/lib/burning_chrome/
I think I’ma start my Gibson collection after I finish Reamde.
Getting back on topic, though…
I create custom content for pen & paper games that I play with my friends. I’ve got a pretty massive project that I’ve been working on for a few years now, and I decided that the game world for this project will be devoid of religion.
Do you know how hard that is to pull off? I’m very much at the point of saying “screw it” and just creating a mythos to wrap the world around. As fun as that sounds though, I’m not doing it. I’m kinda letting things fall as they will without resorting to hard science. I’m beginning to see the power of myth and religion in our lives. I’ve been writing very short stories to reveal bits and pieces of the world to my players over time, and basically these are in the form of hard historical facts that have been preserved through the years (and some of them altered to favor the preserver), and in cultural rituals and myth. Things just kinda took off from there and took a life of their own.
One of my races is an ancient race that has split into two groups, one leaving the somewhat primitive tribal culture behind in favor of a oligarchical society that is heavily dependent on technology. The myths and cultural rituals of both groups bear many resembling traits, however the slight variations within them are done to suit whichever group is making those variations.
Also, the elements and the power of nature take on a huge role both in the game I’m designing and in it’s world. These elements, however, have pretty much become gods in their own rights through no action of my own. And not just to the primitive cultures, as one might expect. They’re referenced constantly throughout my historical references, sometimes even going so far as to personify them. And this is all in a world without religion! Without this, many things within my world just don’t make any sense. I’m forced to produce something that fills the role of creator and motivator and manipulator and overseer and destroyer, etc. All of this is like a basic necessity for world building and without it, well then you’re stuck with science as god, so it’s never-ending, unavoidable, inescapable.
It’s interesting, how this all evolved in my head without even realizing that it is indeed religion at first, and It really makes me wonder how culture and myth and story telling and the need for survival and covering over our mistakes and saving face before our peers really carries along and actually evolves religion.
So… I set out to do something, failed (kinda) and learned a lot on accident.
