Greatly reduce latency issues when playing on ggpo

Afaik the only 7 specific thing is having to force test mode. Xp should just load unsigned drivers without issue.

I don’t know why starslicer here rised the thread, but I might as well answer a few things.

Overclocking USB ports; No real risks should be involved, you’re just rising the polling rate of the ports which means It reads data faster from the device. 500hz in everything is a good value and you’ll eliminate all lag you might have with the default 125hz. There’s been some talk about doing this will rise CPU usage more, but I haven’t noticed any slowdowns and I have a pretty slow CPU. Another thing is that some motherboards might not be able to handle 1000hz, (they blue screen your OS) but the differance between 1000 and 500hz is so minimal that nobody can notice it in practical application, so just stick with 500.

And yes, in 7 and Vista you need to boot into Safe Mode to install unsigned drivers, but it works without problems in normal mode in XP.

I tried this fix when my setup (which is default afaik) was decent enough. Toasted guided me through it and it actually made it worse, or at the least just different and not what I was used to so I reverted back. I don’t think everyone needs to do this. I would wanna talk to a really computer tech guy to see what he says (like R1CH from TL.net) which you can gain access through Chill (he plays 3s) who is another mod there.

whats ur os and specs?

update: if both players have the latency fix you can play on 0 smoothing, even at 100ms+

I still get some frame skip when both players have the fix and are at sub 100 pings. It’s better I agree, but some stuff, such as whiff punishing low forwards with sa3 or whatever can be very difficult at times.

Now the title is just misleading. You can’t eliminate latency from anything that goes over a network no matter what you do or the distance, it’ll exist.

Also any of you had problems with players that don’t have the latency fix? Stuff like stuttering and stuff, both ggpo and supercade.

I liked the old title too. As it was easier to point people – like those crusty old but still cool SF2 guys, stuck in their own caves thinking 3s is gone from GGPO-- to a “guide on helping GGPO run better.” The program add-on supplement could help any player on GGPO, reduce lag and rollbacks.

i literally do not have the patience or self control to not simultaneously watch colbert report when i go on ggpo

but i respect what you gentlemen do so much

Thanks for this.
