The site’s lookin nice Tunabro. I’ve always liked the minimalistic design. I am a year away from graduating in IT and I am taking some HTML5 and CSS3 right now. Here is my ugly website! I recently learned how to use the video and audio tags (new to HTML5). I am liking this class a lot atm. I want to do some web design for sure but I am also looking into . So fun!
It’s hard to critique since I have not gone too deep into WordPress. But I like your graphics and color choice. The only thing that I could think of is to add pictures to the items in the prices section, maybe break it up into pages or frames. I’m also not very sure if this site is meant for marketing or ecommerce. Those are my suggestions, but I think it looks fine.
If you ever work on a member site that gets a lot of traffic, you can use this WordPress Plugin to generate a little extra profit for yourself.

Thanks, guise!
And I’m so excited right now. The latest revision of the site I’m designing is looking much better than its earlier versions. Check it out here.
It loads a random image when you refresh it.
I hope my client accepts this revision as final, so that I can start working his Wordpress and gallery already.
Here are two of the earlier revisions in case anyone’s interested:
Draft 1
Draft 3
I didn’t archive the 2nd draft, unfortunately.
In your buttons the type have a stroke on it and it feels unnecessary. Looks a bit off given that it looks to be a light blue stroke of some sort. You don’t need it. Otherwise it looks alright.
How much do you guys usually charge to make a Website? I just got offered a job making a Website but I’m not sure how much to charge.
@Tuna Fish
Your site is looking better and better. For whatever reason, when I refresh the page, every once in a while half of one picture will show up and half of another will show up as one picture. And that’s after it’s loaded. It could just be my browser or computer, but I figured I should at least let you know.
Thanks. And yep, that’s a drop shadow filter done through CSS, although I don’t think it works on IE. I thought it looked nice, but maybe in the next revision, I’ll switch it to have a black shadow instead of light blue, such as how I currently have it on the orange hovered state. I just wanted the links to pop out a bit.
That happened to me a couple of times, too. I thought it was just me. I’m certain it’s the PHP script I’m using that’s causing it. I’ll try and fix it later. Thanks for the heads up.
Also, about pricing. You can charge a flat fee or by the hour. I think at minimum, a beginner should be getting $15/hour. I wouldn’t make a website for under $500 unless it was a simple job or a 1-pager… or if you were really desperate for more portfolio content.
Oh okay. I see the intent. Maybe a different typeface can make it pop more?
Yeah. I’ll be adjusting it. I got to meet up with my client/friend a couple of days ago and he gave me in-depth suggestions of what he wanted. I’ll be doing a couple of revisions for him.
In other news, I got my creative juices flowing and experimented a new design that’s going to be for my portfolio.
Maybe it’ll look tame to everyone, but the colors and background design are really out of character for me. It felt like I was breaking out of my shell to do something new. I kind of like it though.
Note that it’s just a demo. I just stuck everything onto one page to see what it would look like. I’m probably separate them into pages later.
Excitement! :looney:
I just purchased web hosting at MediaTemple. I have been using Dreamhost for the past couple of years and the service (in terms of uptime and features) has just been okaaaaaaaaay. Before that, I was using some other service that was even better than Dreamhost, but they jacked up the price on me…
I am looking for something more professional and stable, so I decided to move to MediaTemple, which is a favorite among many freelance web designers. I will be able to resell my space to my clients, being able to host up to 100 domains.
Maybe I am just weird, but I find the whole server moving to be fun and exciting, while any other person would find it a pain to transfer all their websites over. Or maybe I am just excited to get this web design business thing into motion.
Not sure if this is where I should post this question.
Basically I want to make a knife tear on the screen diagonally at the very end of my video. Ideally the video screen will get cut in half and fall down, but I wouldnt mind if it was just a layered animated image over the original screen. Was hoping there was just a transition for it but there wasnt.
I have Sony Vegas and Photoshop as editors. Will I need a 3D design program or have to learn to make my own scripts for this?
