Damn right. No lube and all.
At the end of the day both players lost because they both choked and dropped easy shit, I really don’t think Tokido is the best Marvel player right now.
if I didn’t already know the outcome, I would’ve thought justin would’ve beat Tokido(by the way the matches started)
I’m sorry, Chris G beat Tokido easily? In the match where Chris G got cleaned out 3-1 then lost to JWong right after?
lolwhat? Chris G didn’t get cleaned out at all. We apparently watched two different CEO streams.
Justin Wong is good, but people need to seriously acknowledge that there is people -better- than he is in MvC3. Especially if the Blazblue crowd decides to take this game up like I’ve been seeing recently. If you all think Tokido or Daigo are ‘amazing’, you’d hate to see Buppa or Kaqn in a game that is so similar in guilty gear and blazblue controls wise.
Though if I remember correctly, Buppa said he’d never play MvC3 cause of how easy it is. Which is a shame.
Blaz blue is nothing like mvc3 outside of the controls.
Apparently we did, since in my stream Chris G was hella free to Tokido then choked it up against Wong’s wolverine bad.
As for Wong not being the best in MVC3; he may not be the best, but he sure is the most consistent winner to date. Only people that have beaten him decisively were Floe, Combofiend, and Tokido.
So… how long until we go back to MVC2, where it is known that the US (read: Justin Wong) dominates?
When Alpha becomes the premiere SF again.
So losing by timeout now means you are actually better? How does that work?
Then why was Justin in the finals instead of Chris G?
Yeah, if only he had used Wolverine instead of crappy Ammy and Wesker. They’re pretty bad in this game, right?
Let me see if I can tie this all together:
- Chris G loses gets destroyed by Tokido 3-1, winning ZERO sets, getting damn near perfected twice, and being escorted out by normal (non-Dark) Phoenix
- Justin beats Chris G 3-2, but even though Chris G LOST (including choking out a final game where he had a 300% to 120% life lead), his Ryu looked pretty shiny, so really it’s like a win
- Justin takes a set from Tokido (something Chris G could not do), but loses the second set
Conclusion: Chris G is clearly better than Justin…???
…says the guy who is trying to hype the player that LOST to Justin?
I don’t know if Chris is your boy, or if Justin dissed you, or if you’re just one of those people who is always like “fuck mariano rivera he is overrated and not that good,” but seriously, you need to deal with your issues.
So what you’re saying is this game is so fucked up it’s not worth playing without a phoenix team? That’s an extremely sad conclusion. All current Capcom fighters are shitty. We’ll see how much more shitty this gets at EVO when compared to Blazblue.
Blazblue fan?
…
No one is saying that, we are saying that as a competitive player j Wong could easily dominate if he actually picked the best of the top tier characters.
Kinda like how before bbcs2 you should have prob picked bang or hazama. If you didn’t you are handicapping yourself… Justin isnt really a tier junkie like he use to be.
And blazblue has been just as unbalanced if not worst up until bb2
stupid game is fucking stupid/
Video wasn’t impressive at all. Nothing original. Same played out Wolverine combos. And seeing Phoenix in the mix makes it even more whack. Good points too about Justin being unable to perform at optimum level with having to use bars to snap phoenix in. But if that’s the best they got, you gotta do what you gotta do to win. Marlin with his Magneto/Viper team would have been pretty exciting.
I’d have to say judging from the set Chris G and Jwong played at CEO that it’s impossible to say who’s really better. I personally think they are even right now. There are a couple things you have to consider. One thing, Jwong switched his team in Grand Finals against Tokido. The team he used the first time against him was 2-0’d and sent him to the losers bracket. Chris lost his first 2 games to Tokido as well. Yipes said before the Chris G vs Tokido match that Chris did have an anti phoenix team but for some reason or another he opted not to play it. So there is a chance Chris could have turned things around if he made it to GF. Another thing to remember is that Chris had Justin beat in the final game until he choked and dropped the Happy Birthday combo. Now of course, him dropping what would essentially be a game winning combo proves in no way that Chris is better (which I am not trying to prove anyways) but that same match did come down to 2 characters of about equal health in the final seconds.
Even though I think Marvel 2 has almost nothing to do with how good the US is in Marvel 3 because the games are mad different but…I do feel J.Wong is the best the world has to offer. It’s just Tokido uses a cheaper team.
^^^^pretty much.

jwong displayed impressive anti phx tricks. but the vid reminded me of watching MSH tourney matches years and years ago… its all wolverine racing out to land the same combo again and again. cant wait to see how the EVO matches would fare.
Uhh, please, don’t talk about blaz when you don’t know shit about it. CT had shit balance, but CS1 was balanced enough in that you were only handicapping yourself if you picked bottom 4. It’s not smash where not picking MK means you’re gonna have a hard as fuck time. BBCS1 had a top 6 where mostly you had even match-ups among yourselves and positive matchups with the rest. All of those were very viable, and bang/hazama weren’t even the best of top 6. Outside of that top 6, you had very strong characters who could win tournaments and had even or slightly bad matchups with the top. Even at the end of the game’s life, people are still debating the top 3 of CS.
I fail to see how that relates to the concept you guys are talking about handicapping yourself. You could have referenced Brawl for more credibility
I also disagree with this concept.
Phoenix is a good character, but not picking her doesn’t mean you’re handicapping yourself.
First of all, picking her means you play differently. You can get randomed out pretty easily by a snap mix-up and you’re effectively fighting a 3v2 battle. If you’re using an assist character, make it 3vs1. Using her also means you only have one assist and have to be very careful about your meter use.
The risk of getting killed like that before you get DPX is not something you can overlook. Risk is mitigated a bit by having a solid and effective point character like wolverine and wesker, but the risk is still there,
Finally, there are anti px strats out there. Picking her is like exposing yourself to a very great number of risks.
I don’t think Justin didn’t play her because she is too cheap or something like that. I think it’s because of the risk associated with her. You could easily lose first round of a tournament because a Dante/Zero/Wesker got the jump on you, snapped her in and put you in 2 50/50 mixups.
Not saying she’s a bad character which she’s not(hell she’s on my backup team), but too many things can go wrong with her. The main reason I see phoenix winning is because the point character did serious work, or the other guy had no real plan when snapping her in.
Not picking phoenix is a handicap in a tournament. I think all the older, faithful players before the days of patch have a COMPLETELY different mindset on what winning is. From everything I read, to what I hear on streams they set out to prove something when they win, young people just simply win. Not picking Phoenix means you never tried her, or you don’t understand how win in a tournament.
The people that go to these majors are mostly the old heads, that really believe Phoenix is not a problem. But the only thing I can say is that this is the age of the internet, patches ARE the normal now, and she needs one. Or everyone who wins will be using her soon. Sorry.
