Probably because the top characters (in 2) can be used in such a varied way (Matrix plays extremely different from Thrax, same with Clockw0rk and Strider/Doom/Cap). While the top here are 96% of the time are played so similarly. You can’t differentiate styles as much as you used to. Maybe the internet aided in that?

I don’t know if thats necessarily true. I don’t think its a regression or a progression. Phoenix isn’t the only amazingly powerful thing in this game. She’s just one of them. And you don’t really need to worry about a team around her, so its easier to say “I wanna win. Phoenix” then it is to say “i wanna win. Well thought out team with good synergy, useful assists and good DHC potential”.

Guess you weren’t around when the game was announced. Go look at the original general discussion.

lolololololololol

J-Wong actually dominated the Wolvie mirror, because his Tron assist gave him that edge. Thing about it was that Tokido had better characters to fall back on, whereas Wong had Tron and a character he didn’t know how to play. So if he lost the Wolvie battle, it was over. If he won the Wolvie battle, he still had to mix-up Phoenix and still deal with Sentinel.

Odds weren’t in his favor, and he still managed to reset the bracket. Someone did a pretty thorough analysis in the Balance discussion thread, look at it for some insight.

I have been saying for a while already, Wong should have been looking at a Ammy/Wolverine/Akuma team than a She-Hulk/Wolverine/Akuma. Ammy isn’t as assist-dependent as She-Hulk, is a better battery than She-Hulk and fares much better against Phoenix than She-Hulk.

Uhh, Wolverines, She-hulks, Weskers have been winning haven’t they?. Wolverine has also only been playable for four months. I’m saying if shes THAT insanely broken (as some are suggesting) she would have won a good amount more

Yes but Clockworks is one of the best Mvc2 players as far as I know, he’s not a scrub. Again, count the amount of Wolverines winning (I didn’t count, but I’m sure there are more wolves than Phoenix’s on top) (I know its a 3vs3 game lol, but you can see which character mostly dominates)

Yes, Tokido and some others used meter but as the people commentating said they were all very surprised every time someone used meter with a Phoenix team. Also, obviously if you can kill of an important character you will use meter, but the point THEN becomes…What about Dark Phoenix? If that person used Meter and killed of one character, the other two characters might destroy the other chars and then Phoenix has no 5 bars. So its STILL a big risk.

No I meant, there weren’t that many Phoenix’s winning before Tokido won. Viscant got taken out plenty of times before (And as you’ve noted, he used Phoenix for even longer then Tokido) He won now though and I know that many more phoenix’s have won (Note: I never said she was a bad character, shes very very good hence the winning) but the numbers aren’t more or close to some other chars that have also been winning.

Magneto was not winning at all 4 months into MVC2. Certain things take longer to flesh out than others.

Justin is THE BEST MVC2 player. The only reason why Phoenix isn’t winning the vast majority of MVC3 tourneys is because for some reason, Justin is refusing to use her.

I mean, look at this match… does any viewer believe that if Justin had simply mirror matched, he would not have won? He’s obviously on some sort of Phoenix boycott.

This game features many, many reverse OCVs and other assorted absurd comebacks, right? So think about this:

When was the last time you saw someone make a crazy comeback on a DPh team?

It almost never happens because the primary comeback mechanic in this game (XF3 herp derp on incoming characters) SIMPLY DOESN’T WORK on DPh. She is unique in this game in that she alone gets a free, 100% safe entry onto the battlefield with full position reset.

So realistically, using a bit of meter to kill a character is not a big deal unless you have already taken massive damage. Unlike everyone else (and in an extreme twist of irony), Phoenix is not particularly susceptible to XF3 shenanigans.

I fully expect justin to use wolverine tron/sent Phoenix at evo.

Because when Tokido finished 7th at FRXIV MVC3 and USA finished first, that was a “0” for USA.

Remember kids, it only counts when Japan wins.

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

They don’t play Phoenix, of course they would question “why” when they see meter being spent. Phoenix players might spend meter to kill a character that they see as problematic in the long run instead of letting them live so they come back and bop Phoenix. Wolverine was Justin’s team, why wouldn’t you destroy him as quickly as possible?

All time? 2010 or 2007 Yipes was pretty ridiculous. But I can let you rock, kinda  Maybe Justin really hates the character this time. No matter how good.

Shut the fuck up

Since when does “Justin Wong is the best MVC2 player” need any clarification at all?

Don’t forget Revelations. Mago entered MvC3 so technically thats 2 for us. But lets not hurt the Japanese fanboys feelings lol.

suck my dick syke. i wasnt talking to u.

but it is true.
