Grab at the height of hitbox?

What’s with all the bs grabs that happen when your hitbox should be fully red, is that just online lag or does it happen locally too? I’ll be at the height of a hit frame and a grab will go off, I think typically those fights have been stop and go in fact one fight a guy queue’d in a combo during waiting for players and I couldn’t even respond to block it. Is the lag normally that bad? I have all regions open since selecting USA takes longer, and I’ve fought people who don’t lag in EU/JAP and other regions.

I’m also horrible at grabbing but these grabs I’m talking about can’t be tech’d since I’m in the middle of an action, not that I’m good enough to tech them anyway, I never use grabs personally so far would like to but don’t feel I can work it in yet.

You can get grabbed out of moves’ startup, that has nothing to do with lag, that’s just how mechanics work. The lag depends on your internet and the region.

Grab range is relatively small, however, so not doing high-startup moves at point-blank range will greatly reduce the problem you seem to be having.

Ive been grabbed from pretty far away 1-2 inches on my 23" screen. It’s frustrating / depressing how to train for such differences.

They grab me from much further away then I can grab some one. I have to be like 30pixels away or closer to grab or its no good. I moved grab to it’s own button for now so I can grab easier but I still haven’t grabbed anyone online.

Internet is 62mbps / 11mbps but the comcast down here are jerks and do all kinds of weird stuff with your internet. Comcast in Renton was much better with the cheaper plan. It’s not my internet most of the time though it’s theirs.

Different characters have different grab ranges, especially for command grabs. What game are you talking about anyway? if you’re playing SF4 and you’re not playing 3-bar connections, then you WILL feel lag.

Also, you don’t need particularly high bandwidth to reliably play fighting games online. It’s the latency and stability (not dropping packets) between you and your opponent that matter. To ensure things on your end, that would mean having your console or PC hooked up with an ethernet cable to directly your router/modem and not using a wireless connection.

Also keep in mind that if a grab and a hit occur on the same frame, the grab gets priority. It’s also important to differentiate between a grab that hits you on your startup frames from one that hits you on your first active frame.

I know about the blockable grabs that jump halfway across-ed the screen and some can crossup. Referring to the actual lk+lp

There is literally no such thing as a blockable grab. That would defeat the purpose of the grab.

Well you can block what ever abel’s and a few other character’s ultras are like Zangief that grab you at the start of it. They might not technically be called a grab.

Ah, you mean Abel’s falling sky move? That’s not a grab. It looks like a grab, but it actually counts as a standard hitting attack. Same deal with Ibuki’s raida. It looks like a grab, but it’s not.

Either case, the aforementioned advice still applies.
