Gouken Vortex... YEAH, I said it

good point could have been a different reversal.

Eh, I’d set it to lp.srk. That’s the one that gets stuffed. The other two will whiff if you did it right.

Also, YOU should be Ryu in training mode, and Gouken should be the one who’s sweeping/demon flipping on record/playback.

ive had VERY noticeable improvement in my game since reading this thread…big thanks

does anyone do (in corner) ex dash punch > hp fb > lp fb > cr. rh?

if so, what are your follow ups to this?

i started working this in my game yesterday instead of cr. fp xx demon flip at the end.

i have considered doing that, but didnt know what good follow ups, since DF is kind of wierd in the corner. Also, just as a note, if anyone is doing the Fb, then ex fb in the corner stuff, do the ex fb first then the lp fb, you get more damage and stun. im not at home or i would write down the damage differences.

yeah i do that, but usually, after ex palms i do Fierce fireball, EX fireball, then a crouching fierce.

tacks on quite a bit of damage, although, on some people it is harder to hit this than others.

i dont hardly ever do demon flip for a reset in the corner anymore, all anyone has to do is forward dash out of it and punish you.

just mix it up as well as you can with throw or tickthrow. or other shenanigans.

also, in some situations, EX palms whiffs through throws(!) but only sometimes for some reason…

hmmm… never thought of that, but it sounds stricter than the way i do it, but if it indeed more damage/stun…

actually, if you do light demon flip kick after cr. rh, you hit pretty much right as they get up. ive only been reversal’d with a dp of course. gonna be home in a few mins and will have my buddy help me confirm some other things with the demon flip follow up.

also wondering if a medium df kick will cross up

So say we do a demon flip kick, and we land behind the opponent, who did a DP or whatever. Can we punish? What do you do?

Cr.FP > EX Palm

Wow, nice. I just usually spaz out. I’m gonna have to try that right now.

lol.
one of gouken’s strengths is his ability to punish mistakes severely.
any time you can land a c.hp, you want to drill that guy with c.hp xx ex palm > “whatever”.
find out all of the opportunities to land that combo on each character’s whiffs and you will have a strong foundation.
in fact, if you practice c.hp xx ex palm > dash > c.hk, it does about 20 less damage than ending with mp palm and you can work a safe demon flip into it.
the timing for landing the 100 damage portion of c.hp after (ex palm > dash) seems identical to the timing for landing c.hk, so you can end your ex palm with c.hp xx df > “whatever” as well for the same damage + reset.
i still end with mp palm because my execution is questionable and i like throwing fireballs.

just won a tournament today,

1.ultimate faust (gouken/boxer)
2.sephiroth73002(ryu)
3.haidoungRiceMan(dictator)
4.foxstecCEO(Viper)

i used to do it your way, but on the smaller characters, IE ryu, i consistently missed. I find the way i do it MUCH easier and the timing to not be as strict. but, to each his own.

I have been working on my demon flip timing after sweep, but I think you’ve pointed out something I should be doing a lot more of - figuring out how to work c.hps in. Thanks. Any non-obvious examples you’ve got would be helpful.

I need to see videos. It’s very hard to maintain pressure on someone outside of the corner.

well, think about what moves the other character wants to hit you with, how to make them miss and what to do when they miss.
take zangief for example.
he has spinning pile driver, green palm and lariat.
on all green palms, if you block you can hit him with c.hp xx ex palm.
you can also punish green palms by predicting them with neutral jump to nj.hp > c.hp xx ex palm.
on spd, if you neutral jump you should be ready to nj.hp > c.hp xx ex palm.
on lariat you can hit him with df kick > c.hp xx ex palm.
these are all guaranteed setups for c.hp xx ex palm against zangief.
if your execution of them is 100%, you will have a strong base against that character.
each character will give you guaranteed opportunities to land c.hp xx ex palm.
you usually dont want to guess about it and get your ex palm blocked.
the other player can have knowledge to punish gouken in that case.
the more you practice landing that combo, the more naturally it will come out at odd opportunities.
you will also get a lot better at hit confirming it from random demon flip kicks because of your comfort level.

if you ever play against someone who knows what they are doing then you probably wont be pressuring to much outside of corners :"\

but lucky enough regular forward throw, any palm, and any kungoshin can send the opponent to the corner VERY quickly.

raun, you mentioned that you can end ex palm with chpxxdemon…i tried that and found that my chp is too far away from the opponent to cancel into anything. i am dashing once right after ex palm(just like for hk tatsu followup) …how exactly are you getting it to land close enough to cancel.

oculus, what you need to do is after that dash hold forward so you take like a step or two. then do c.fierce. that extra step is all you need. it will still look like the c.fp hits with the tips of the finger, or sometimes if u moved close enough it connect looks like the elbow hits, but regardless you are able to cancel into DF. hope that helps

So you can do ex dash punch > dash > cr. fp xx flip? i will try this
