These matches are really bad.
The safe jump dive kick bait on Rog and the blocked cross-up mk to neutral jump tech bait on sagat were both pretty fucking smart.
V-Ryu’s Gouken destroys yours, dude…
just looking for some gouken help hes pretty much my secondary but any criticism is helpful. when gettin rushed down i just get flustered but heres a video from my tourney last night

Just looking at some of the recent videos that people posted, I’m starting to think that the focus is what makes or breaks a Gouken player during a match. It does look a safety defensive tool that Gouken needs for the combo or backdash, but it looks like the good players are consistent on punishing it a good amount of the time. It’s good in the fact that you get a free ex dash palm combo and that gets you the life lead you need to feel safe in defensive fireball zoning/it does big damage. I think it works much more often in online play, because many of the players don’t really deal with focus as well. In tournaments though, against the higher tiers, one of the few good time to possibly use focus is an aggressive balrog who’s trying to get in with fast and not armor breaking dash punches or maybe Chun Li who keeps doing hazanshu/sweep/w/e. Rufus too if he’s not abusing low dive kicks. Doing the focus at midrange or as an anti air against Sagat or Bison or Ryu or Akuma is very bad and most of the time, from the videos I’m watching from the recent pages, they really punished you for using it against them whether it was tiger knee, backdash, Bison’s fast standing rh., jumpin normal+uppercut etc.
Another thing I’m noticing a lot is on the opponent’s wakeup, a lot of the Gouken’s keep doing crossup j.forward or safe/unsafe demon flips. Maybe we should try finding some other oki options that don’t involve jumping all the time as it really does get predictable. Maybe the overhead or air tatsu. The meaties are definitely risky though since Gouken can’t do meaty c.shorts into srk or anything like that.
i dont know man.
maybe some fiber in your diet would help you out.
i have said three things about you:
- i thought you played well
- your obsession with shine’s shadow makes you look like a douchebag
- tournament videos are always valid and not what my post was about.
if you want to play some online games with me to let that aggression out, i dont hide my tag.
it looked like you were trying for too much focus against that bison.
in one of the later rounds he took half your bar from you while you were attempting focus.
well raunwynn ur on my friends list u should have taught me better lol cammy is still the shit tho thks lol
oh the cammy player!
haha, why did you run gouken in that tournament instead of her?
When did you see me play???IIRC you are on psn and i dont think i have even been anywhere you were playing. you are right though, i dont use kongo that much. I prefer to let people do their empty jumps and punish the hell out of them. I prefer to not whore out the move as it has caused me nothing but problems in the past. i will say though i could definetly use it more though.
Pretty much. In fact, i think that’s one of the things all Gouken players go through, playing with focus as a way to get in before realizing how ineffectual it is. I was actually really surprised Osiris landed that many, especially off of jumpins. Someone was wondering why Shine got away with so many parries? Because apparently most low-level tourney players who use top tier chars like sticking shit out for no apparent reason against a char with a focus into massive damage/stun combo and a counter.
As far as wakeup j.mk and DF go… there’s not a whole lot else to do as a meaty outside of a charged fireball. Our moves just have sucky active frames.
i love gouken so i just wanted to try to throw a curve in i did win the finals with my cammy though but i wanna get this gouken thing under control
Indeed, I learn that the wrong way. Now I use c.HP for almost every jump in works wonders against Empty Jumps (Must use against Gouken Match-up) and Jump In attacks. Only a few beat Gouken C.HP anti-air.
c.HP > EX Palm > FADC > j.MP (1hit) > Full Ultra = 611
c.HP > EX Palm > FADC > Full Ultra = 624
13 hit damage lost for a j.mp, but makes it look fancier. Dunno if the 13 hit points are important or not, but for my gameplay style I go for the best damage.
Still great Gouken, way different from my play style.
Well, maybe we should go a couple rounds eh? When would you like to play?
I want to see videos of ALL of these matches…
I have a pretty solid Gouken which Raun uttlerly destroyed… so I would love to see the Osiris vs. Raun match up plays out.
How the fuck would us having a mirror match prove anything about V-Ryu being better than you?
Mirror matches are fun, because no one has a certain advantage over the other, besides mind games and gamestyle. IMO
Gouken mirrors are whiff-fests.
I think an ass whippin is an ass whippin mirror match or not. I haven’t been in any tourneys yet, but I don’t think mirror matches are banned.
Sounds like somebody is scared. Eh?
I used to dislike Gouken mirror matches, but it’s a good way to pick up on other people’s playstyles. One downside is that the experienced players do not fall for the backthrow reset tricks, lol.
