Gouken Videos

Very entertaining and not shabby gouken play at all my man

The biggest mistake you made IMO was continuing to try to c/s hp after demon flip kick. Once a SRK-type character figures out that the block string has serious holes in it they are going to continue to use SRK to break it.

About using sweep c.hk a lot: I find using sweep as much as you did difficult in typical online matches because people spam the hell out of SRK. If they aren’t, sweep is one of the best pokes Gouken has…

cool

I recorded my first matches but I played so terrible I really don’t want to share them :stuck_out_tongue: Lots of execution mistakes. On the positive side I’ve learned I focus fish way too much.

I was really just “playing” and not really caring too much during these games. Had a much better 30 game session late into the night the day before.

I’m looking to get that HAVA Platinum HD thing but we’ll see.

Be kind, I know I didn’t play that well.

I play Bison and Balrog myself, and that video made me cringe. Looked like the guy didn’t know what he was doing. I’m surprised he didn’t go for more Smash/Psycho Crushers… instead he just stood there.

I liked the Parry -> FADC -> Palm though, good stuff.

Yeah it was just regular player matches. I’m used to way more aggressive Balrogs. You’ll see me jump back a lot and throw fireballs from a distance where it can’t be jumped and I’m waiting for a TAP to EX tatsu it, but it never comes.

Was mainly just recording ot test it but my gameplay was pretty bad itself :frowning:

eh, the guy is probably still learning the game.

That vid against boxer helped me a lot since he is one of my toughest matchups. Thanks and nice gouken dude

These are better (both my play and my opponent) even though I messed up a simple EX facepalm to FADC Ultra :stuck_out_tongue: Could use advice in teh Rufus Gouken matchup also.

I really like your corner tactics in the Rufus video. You’re really good at that, it’s something I definitely have to work on. You were pretty relentless in that department. Especially on a Rufus.

Realy nice use of sweep after fireball on Ryu, again something I forget to utilize constantly when it should be a staple. More use of cr.fp v. Ryu would be good. I find that against a lot of Ryu’s on 360, baiting jump-ins with ground fireballs and stuffing them with cr.fp or s.mk really throws their game off. After playing in that “stone-defense” style, sometimes I’ll randomly turn on the offense and the drastic change in gameplay’s enough to get some decent but usually rare combos in. Still great job, better than I would have handled the situation.

It’s really weird in your Sakura match against the same Ryu, how much more difficult of an opponent she can be. I never understood how such simple moves can get a seemingly so offensively-limited character so close to you. Other than stopping her jumpins and countering cr.lk in her cr.lk xx lk.Tatsu shenanigans it’s a really tough match for me. Oh remember, s.fp xx Ex.Palm xx mp.Palm, then try some charged/non-charged hadou --> Demon Flip shenanigans after you pull that off. Tatsu is out of Sakura’s hitbox range. 5:40m into your first Sakura battles (alternate costume) way to get out of the crossover BS.

Awesome vids man.

Next time you face a Rufus, try neutral jumping with hp.

You’ll find this works as a fantastic shield against a lot of his options and stuffs a lot of his crap clean. Think Honda’s neutral jump (controllable) hp. It has a comparably massive hitbox and if you land it on a grounded Rufus, you can come crashing down and land a solid combo. Because Rufus only has 950 stun, pursue him some more to chase that dizzy.

Avoid jumping offensively at Rufus however and be sure to feed him a steady diet of mp fireballs to frustrate and bait him into coming to you. Once you you entice him to do this, bust out the neutral jump hp again.

Thanks guys, I tend to get in trouble when I am getting rushed-down. With Sakura, once she gets in and starts that tatsu junk I can’t find a way to punish her and the same thing with Rufus, he gets in and it all becomes guessing for me. I suppose that’s the way it is supposed to be though.

Is there anyway out of, or to punish Sakura after blocked tatsus or Rufus after his spinning fat move (on block of course)?

On that Sakura/Rufus match, when Sakura is doing that little combo after the tatsu, you can try to do a low Counter between Tatsu. I remember getting like several sakuras like that.

And on that same video, you landed a great crossover several times but you opted to do footsies instead of c.HP -> EX Palm -> Whatever. c.HP always works for me after a Crossover MK.

Great matches nontheless.

Best Gouken USA?

cha cha

saw those vids recently, great gouken player. that rog seemed to have no idea how to fight a gouken though.

he linked standing strong to crouching strong in the final round against chun li.
that was pretty sick.

he is a good gouken no doubt. i like his use of normals. in particular the use of close mp and close mk. i NEVER use em. When he was using them they were working pretty well adn he was able to get some nice counter hits out of it and do some nice block strings. As we saw, he linked cl.mp to c.mp, that was cause it was CH. its a shame its so hard to confirm or we could have something there.

Rufus’s Galactic Tornado is only -1 on block. This means you can’t punish it. However, if you try to jab him afterwards and he does anything but a reversal, you’ll probably beat him or at least trade. Note that Rufus players LOVE blocked GT -> EX Messiah FADC ultra. A good way to get out after blocking it is EX Demon Flip obviously. I dunno if he can j.hk that easily though. Really, once you block GT, Rufus has you in a guessing game and you have to guess.

Sakura’s lk tatsu is +0 on block, which means that no, you can’t punish it. If she’s trying to pressure you with it though, you can poke her out of it. If she keeps on doing normal xx tatsu, parry the normal or EX DF away. You can also backdash the normal after the tatsu or do a cr.lp to beat her followup.

If Rufus or Sakura throw out these moves randomly you can punish them with neutral jumps -> j.hp -> cr.hp xx EX Palm -> whatever

It’s really easy to tell if something is punishable on block by looking at the frame data on the wiki.

I really like his use of cl.mk. The pushback is so much less than say s.hp or cr.hp, it actually lets you take advantage of being +2 on block. Does anyone know off the top of their head if s.mp xx hadouken has more pushback than s.mk xx hadouken?

This. That’s why getting good at cl.mp --> cr.lp/cr.mk is good, and then the added damage from finishing that off with a low or mk.Tatsu depending on the character. If you culd be sure of 8-9/10 on the hit confirm that is.

**Edit - **That was a combo from the trials. I’m pretty sure having that down to a science with his use of standing close mp would have made the Chun player fear Gouken’s inside game a lot more than he did, even as good as it was there.
