[]Stop focusing so much. If you want to focus, instead sweep, s.mp, s.hk, cr.hp xx lp/mp hado, or s.hp. Anti-air, don’t use focus. Use cr.mk and cr.hp. LK Tatsu works if they’re really high up.
[]You need to learn to tech throws better. If your tech isn’t coming out, you’re either crouching and doing it too early (and thus getting counter-hit out of cr.lk), doing it too late (most likely scenario), or doing it standing ridicuously early. If you want to play Gouken, you have to learn to tech throws.
[]A better Blanka player would be getting you with EX Up Ball or electricity every time you jumped in, just so you know.
[]If you want to punish Blanka Ball, stand block and do reversal lp palm.
[]EX Demon Flip is a really good wakeup move as long as they don’t jump randomly.
[]Off a demon flip, use the throw more often. It is in my opinion the best option unless you’re doing crossup shenanigans.
[]Work on your combo execution more.
[]You need to get reversals consistently if you’re gonna try for them. That meaty ultra from Blanka should have been free Shin Shoryuken. Reversal EX Demon Flip gets you out of a lot of shit for free. EX Palm as anti-focus is really good too.

You’re decent, but you’d be a lot better if you learned more of Gouken’s normals. Also, don’t be afraid to walk forwards sometimes and play footsies with Blanka. He sucks at footsies really besides random punishable slides and hops. If you slow the game down, Blanka loses.
Thanks for this tips, I will try to improve for my next tourney, I still don’t play SF4 that often, so I might have to play more often before SSF4 comes out.
Unfortunately, so does Gouken. :wgrin:
This is why i know i’m getting old…i cannot crouch block on reaction to the slide…just can’t see it coming…same thing with Dictators slide…anywayz, DarKaoZ you do better against Blanka with Gouken than i do. With Seth i don’t have many problems since i know a punish for each of his moves (even slide, if i manage to predict and block it =D )
I think Gouken’s pretty good at footsies. He’s got a 5-frame low hitting special-cancellable move (cr.mp), a 6-frame sweep that’s safe on block except for reversal 2-frame supers and such, high damage and priority pokes (if they are a bit on the slow side), and counters that are only mildly punishable in footsies (the worst you’re gonna eat if the opponent is spot-on is probably a throw or a sweep). He has a good anti-air, too. His biggest weakness is walk up throw, and a good player should be able to out-poke that. He also has his fireball, which usually recovers quickly enough to counter any attempted jump-in and you’ve got the hilarious hp/lp fireball mixup.
And slide is really hard to block on reaction, and basically impossible online. It just still doesn’t work out in Blanka’s favor to do random slide because Gouken can punish with cr.hp xx EX Palm -> dash -> HK Tatsu. Or, y’know, backthrow -> ultra.
His standing pokes are a lot more reliable I’ve got to say. Standing MP is a very solid counter poke. I was checking what normals can be FADC’d earlier today and it was one of them. I suppose if you were inclined to burn the meter you could end a block string with st.MP xx FADC into whatever you want to keep the pressure on.

My noobness at work. I know my mistakes but these videos were shot a long time ago. So I changed quite a bit from this, I now have 10k GP instead of 3k for instance. And the 2nd video I have around 6-7k GP now. Although I’m more or so on PS3 only since the timing is substantially different for both versions.
Anyways I suck, enjoy.
Wow, that second video was like night and day.
Any tips on the j.mp -> cr.hp reset? I always get the two-hit version of j.mp.
I don’t have too many tips for that. Yeah that 2nd video was like a few months after the first video so I improved a lot. I’m a lot better since I’m not as much of a focus whore, i’m in the right mix.
Anyways as for tips on the j. mp -> cr. hp reset, my advice is basically get used to doing it online. The timing between doing it online and doing it locally is vastly different. Keep trying to do it online and you’ll eventually get it down easy. It’s almost as easy as doing the back throw -> 3 hit ultra. I was doing the back throw -> 6-7 hit ultra for a while now.
Best advice to give though, do it 10 times in a row in training, and you’ll be fine.
or if you’re lazy, just walk forward a bit, and link from s. HP -> Demon Flip. That’s a decent enough mix up although not as confusing as the j.mp one.
Just watched it. You suck?!?!? Noob?!?!?! I don’t think so.
The second video is ok, but it is impossible to tell really since the competition was soooo bad.
It’s hard to find good competition online, not to mention there is no kind of sf4 scene near me at all so i’m just stuck fighting online players. Wish it didn’t take so long to get to G1, I don’t play that much so it takes forever for me to get there. Although I feel it’s useless since SSF4 is coming so I could just wait for that…
I got to G1 then quit playing champ mode. G1 is still too hard to find a match with a proper connection if you find a match at all. At this point, (I quit champ mode at least two months ago) I can still go into champ mode, get to the second round of fights and not have an opponent.
I’d give anything to get back to G2 lol
Nice gouken!!! That Mike ross is real good with Honda. Certainly 1 of the underrated Characters IMO. But Mike has always been good with Honda.
Watched that live. As a ryu main/gouken secondary I now <3 Valle
Hey guys here is another video of me showing how I do with Gouken. This was an online tourney I participated here on SRK and my opponent Delirium recorded it. Much respect to all my opponents on that fearless afternoon.
P.S Kooper if you read this I’m out for your El Fuertes Head lol and Yes I lossed to a Fuerte Arghhhhhhh:crybaby:
