Personally I prefer charging focus after I block the first part of the sweep and then FA 2 -> dash -> s.HP xx PAIN TRAIN.

I have had more success using low counter online. Is the FA 2 guaranteed? How tight are the frames between him blocking and you hitting?

His ultra does look like the most painful in the game. Gief’s is up there, too.

I’ve yet to miss it offline when I’ve done it, never actually played a Guile online.

Looking at the frame data as long as you start your FA after the first kick and absorb the second hit it looks to be guaranteed because you hit him with the FA2 before he recovers from the c.HK.

I call EX Dash Palm “The Pain Train” because he keeps going forward. Sometimes when I’m home by myself I go “CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA CHUGGA CHOO CHOO” during EX Dash Palm combos. I’ll also say stuff like “OH NO HERE COMES THE KABOOSE” when I do the second palm in the combo, and stuff like “SHOVEL MORE COAL WE NEED MORE POWER” when I’m out of EX stock.

This has lead to me saying that Gouken is so old he’s steam powered.

Very good fights there man. Good job.

But damn, looking at the first video, Gouken’s close-up attcks really have nothing against Guile’s crouching kicks and the faster pokes of other characters. I wonder if it’s really a good idea to try to rush-down with Gouken. It seems like other than his jump in --> crounching jab-jab-jab, there really isn’t much he can do to keep the pressure on if the guy is blocking unless you go for the jab --> throw mix-up.

I know hehe, one funny thing is that I have trouble just pulling of the ultra while facing left :S:S… Thats a giant flaw in my game. If Im facing right I can easily do it on reaction (or im prolly starting to buffer if I think he’ll attack me) like when balrog does his rush punches or blanka does his balls, but when facing left and knowing that I have an ultra which has to land in order to win the round: my priority is to switch sides

Thx  yeah, Im using the D-pad, and as u can see it give me headache som times :P… I’ve thought about getting a stick and maybe I will. Are they so much better?

Well, I’m about to purchase it next week so I can’t really tell you my experience with it but from what I’ve heard, sticks are more sensitive and thus allowing you to perform skills (especially combos) at greater ease.

I think it’s a VERY big difference with a stick. I’m not even very good with this game, and I still really benefit from having a stick, I think. It’s just so much faster and more accurate than the d-pad. Off course it takes some getting used to. But I really think that anybody on any level of play will notice a difference. I used to always only be able to preform certain moves in one direction too, when I used a d-pad. That hasn’t been a problem with the stick, though. I would describe it like this: Doing a motion in one direction or another with a d-pad feels like doing two different motions. Doing a motion in two different directions with a stick just feels like doing the same motion in different directions.

thanks man, and there are other options for when an opponent is blocking but im still getting use to implementing them eventually ill start learning when to apply different plans of attack when the opponent is on the defense

hahahahahahha   You just blew my fuckin’ mind, dude. “HERE COMES THE CABOOSE” is my new slogan.

Fuckin’ lol’d hard at the caboose. He IS steam powered. God damn freight train.

This couldn’t be more true, especially when you break people’s focus attack with a palm strike. Watching his palm slam into the guy’s gut followed by that glass shattering sound just makes you go, “DAAAAAAMN!”

Yeah I felt the same way too. When I’m playing with the controller, I tend to favor my left side cause I always train and play with AI from the left. I tend to make mistakes while executing a combo from the right.

I ROFL LMAO at this thing…Gouken is so massive that he might just “derail” himself off the tracks

I’ve been yabbering about Gouken for a while now on this sub-forum, so I figured I’d be best put my recordings where my mouth is.

Here’s a test clip recorded from my cell phone versus a (terrible) Guile player in a ranked match.

I make a slew of dumb mistakes, but I’m moreso curious as to whether this quality is good enough to share or not. Please let me know. If its worth while, I’ll be sure to record some more. In the interim I’ll tweak my phone’s settings to see if I can clear things up a bit.

Edit - here’s another match against a Blanka player:

Now that was funny :wgrin:!!

I also like his winning quote which start with “I may be old but”… haha his voice is funny

English voice dub :shake:

enjoying the videos , i mainly play sagat at the moment but im really interested in learning gouken as i really like his fight style

being a ST player i am finding it difficult to adjust to SFIV but still loving it

hey i need to upload my winners finals match and grand finals match but they are longer then 10 min each. what is a good program to split the videos into 2 different parts

Nice 3rd round on the Blanka video. Very tight with responss to the roll.
