Ah, sorry my bad. The quality was a little low so I thought the flash at the end of the EX palm was a cancel. I’m a little new to Gouken, so I don’t know a lot of his tricks and combos.
Thanks for the tip, but i have a good tactic after the back throw. B-throw -> c.hp -> f.demon flip -> combo, the f. demon flip hit as a neck kick it’s really cool and after the first two times they start blocking it in turn you can use the m. demon flip. I’ll post a vid soon and some of those plays in a match.
thanks tonren. btw, no need to be apologetic. i think for championship mode replays we should just state gp at the time and let that be the forewarning.
There were like 5 or 6 times, counting both videos, that you predicted a fireball and did ex demon flip into throw:
I’ts a great idea, i usually do ex demon flip into kick, s.hp xx ex palm, and dash and tatsu if i want damage or another palm if i want to send them to the corner to pressure…
… i never used that (because i forgot about it) but i will do it from now on, because at max range usually the fireball is over and they can block the kick…
but i think that in your videos there were, at least, a couple of times when you did with perfect timming and they couldn’t block, so you could do the combo.
Another thing, when you land an air hadouken with hp, be ready if they jump, so you can use hp palm (if close) or hk demon kick sweep (if far), because they can combo. If you miss, you are close anyway to keep the pressure on them.
I posted a question about crossups with gouken, because i use them a lot with ryu jumping mk but i can’t do them with gouken’s jumping mk…
…but on your videos you did that, and succeed, with jumping mk, so that proves to me that it’s my fault. I suppose i messed the jump range for the crossup because i’m used to ryu’s crossup.
I dunno how I got the Ultra punish off. The counter punish is a super important part of Gouken’s anti-Guile game, imho, so it’s important to try and hit it as often as possible. It’s really freakin hard though. I uploaded the one video where I managed to get it more than once.
Thanks… I’m slowly getting better with the unsafe moves. I still throw out too many random demon flips and ultras.
Only a dopey Guile user attempts to sweep Gouken unless he can confirm its going to connect. I love it.
One thing that irks me though - notice when you counter Guile’s sweep that you invoke TWO slots of sweep damage? Technically, its a two hit attack, so when you counter, you have to accept the equivalent of BOTH hits. Annoying. Still effective though.
Watching that Chun match, I just thought that after you stunned her and went for the second combo, you should have maybe tried to counter rather than focus, probably would have killed and got you the perfect ^_^". That or cancel into demon flip kick again since it hits above her and she doesn’t have a shouryuken that’ll knock you out of it (EX Bird doesn’t beat it I think since it hits directly on top.)
Also, not that I can comment since I couldn’t see what sort of connection you were getting (I only get 1 bar for tourneys since I’m in AUS) but you might want to try landing the EX palm -> HK Tatsu combo since it usually hits the entire cast. If you’re having problems with lag, use the LP Palm since it comes out faster and is less likely to miss.
A few times I saw you land an over head in the corner only to follow it up with s.HP, Nomal Palm. Try hit confirming the EX Palm as it gives you way more options/damage/stun. TBH EX Palm in corner is my favorite way to set up the ultra against non-shoto. Punishing a SRK with Backthrow is my other.
I think a general Chun-Li matchup strategy is to counter instead of FA, because of her lightning legs. I’ll have to remember that from now on!
I didn’t realize the LP palm worked better in that situation. Good advice!
Usually I do the HK Tatsu after EX Palm, but that day I was having a lot of trouble connecting it. Either I would dash too late and whiff the tatsu, or dash too early and tatsu without moving forward. I’ll just have to practice it some more.
