Gouken Videos

Well if it doesn’t land on a crouching opponent you can use GF Dive as a hit confirm since it forces stand. Would be good if you only had 2 meter and landed a dive.

Amen!!

Amen to that as well. Here’s something useful…

Hey guys,

Lately I’ve been having a real problem with blanka. I used to deal with him just fine but as of late blanka players have been using his electricity much more often and its throwing off my game. I tried really hard in this match but u will see the errors of my way. If u guys can help me out i’d appreciate it.

thx

IIRC, blanka ball can be punished by the lp palm, if you block it standing. Also, Kongoshin the electricity shenanigans whenever you can, you really picked up on this after round 1. Just work on staying consistent. There were a few missed BnB opportunities off the divekick, but I think Blanka is by far one of the most annoying matches to get the hang of, particularly for Gouken.

-Spam cr. lp when outside of his trip slide range if he happens to try to roll you can hit him out of it. You will also hit him as he is trying to recover from hopping at you. If you can take away those 2 things, it will relieve a bit of pressure off of you and allow you to out think him by zoning.

-I saw you do this late in the match which is good, but if he doesn’t have a charge he’s more than likely going to jump or slide. Focus attack him and make him pay. Normally when you shut that part down, they’ll just resort to grabbing, using electricity, and using 2-1’s to Blanka ball.

-You kongo’d electricity, which is very very very good.

-Punish whiffed slides from max range with cr. roundhouse > shenanigans.

-Here’s a rush down frame trap that works on Blanka and a lot of the rest of the cast. After you connect a palm, throw a lp hado to meaty him on wake up and follow it with an EX GF flip. You can either opt to dive kick him > combo/bait/string/tick-throw or you can GF Grab him 1-2 frames after the block stun wears off of the hado. It can seem like a waste of EX, but sometimes it’s a good meter burn if it can put you on quick offense.

-If you jump away or towards and you have meter - always buffer your Ultra. This not only applies to Blanka, but Balrog, Boxer, Guy, Adon, Gen, Bison… damn near anyone who has a move that will bring them towards you.

-Quez256 was on point- lp palm punishes standing blocked Blanka ball. Alternate st. mp with your lp hado’s to keep him off guard and to bait an EX roll and punish him for it.

-If you take a look at his frame data, you’ll see his highest normal on block is +2, which means you can slide a kongo in between any of his block strings if he gets too predictable with it. Use this after you shut his roll down. EX Kongo always eliminates the guess work.

-If you untech him, either safe jump him or use cross up j. mk to stuff his electricity. There is a small window where you can safe jump him with the cross up as well.

-When he does that ambiguous cross up shit- if cr. fp doesn’t hit him, st. cl. hk will. Once you start tagging him for it, when he jumps he’ll pretty much set himself up for a free kongo b/c he’ll be expecting you to try to anti air him.

-If you aren’t sure which side he will land on when he does the step back vertical roll, focus absorb it and punish him on the way down.

Justin Wong playing Gouken with only the Fierce Punch button. Not really anything exciting, but pretty funny. Love the dash to bait out a poke into Kongo counter.

^ I saw that. I loved watching that match even though it was clearly not intended to be serious. I was amazed how much mileage he managed to get out of that one button, lol. But that’s Gouken for you  Always with the Fierce Punches!

Fierce Punches --> Ex Palm --> PAIN!

Man if I knew lp palm punished I would’ve baited those damn balls. Thx for the info man.

Iam…U SIR R THE MAN! Thank you for the thorough and very helpful response. I’m definitely gonna start incorporating the cr. RH and spam those jabs when he does his annoying hops. GOD I HATE BLANKA! lol

I was actually thinking to myself “Wow, he’s really lucky he picked Fierce before random gave him Gouken.” Most of Gouken’s big plays revolve around that one button, and while he missed out on some other opportunities, it was pretty funny to see how well he did.

Alright guys, this is my first lost in a tournament I went 2/2 at. Mind you I was very nervous because 1, I was on a live stream and felt like I was going to look stupid playing someone who usually finishes within top-10 at each tournament here; 2, I felt like I was going to get embarassed.

Please feel free to critique the clip from top to bottom without remorse. After that night, my gameplay stepped up a lot and I’ve been winning on a more regular basis; and I’ve become a lot more confident. I’ll have another video to post as well (another VERY CLOSE loss) soon.

Here it is:

a couple notes for the ryu matchup…

your spacing and timing on the palms was a bit off. I’m gonna chalk it up to nerves, but if not, that’s probably something to work on.

you did a few flip slides where I personally would have done a flip throw. Throw gives you lot more options for continuing the offense, and I usually take that over slide when the spacing is right.

The balrog matchup is tough, but I would say… practice back-throwing him out of ex rushes and turn punch. Also my experience has been forget using anti-air fireballs for the most part, stick with cr.mk, cr.hp, and kongo. In fact, kongo in general is good against balrog and his cr.lp of death. cr.lk > lp.fireball is also a nice poke. Good reach and it goes under lots of his stuff. cr.lk > hk.tatsu is also nice for when you see his rushes coming.
Just my experience with the matchup.

This was a sweet victory for me because I HATE Rufus. enjoy

EX Up Ball is 4 frames, is invincible on startup, and beats crossups clean. Technically you can safe jump it if your timing is perfect.

If he’s doing EX rainbow roll and he knows you’re going to focus he can land in front of you and throw. Also lots of Blankas like to do reversal rainbow roll which will armor break.

Never do wakeup EX DF to get out of pressure unless you predict DP FADC. You will get punished every time against a good player. Just block, goddamn. The only EX DF one I agreed with was when he charged meaty focus. Wakeup counter isn’t very good either. Just block and tech. Against Rog if you’re going to do any reversal it should be wakeup EX Tatsu.

If Ryu would have thrown more fireballs they would have hit you every time you did a high fireball.

If you’re going to anti-air focus just anti-air counter instead.

Anti-air better. This is the biggest thing besides not doing so many reversals.

So here we go with another match.
This match isnt really something special, i only uploaded it to get some time.
Because iam about to upload some sparrings against V-Ryu a really good Makoto player.

Good shit on the counter xx FADC, ultra. I figured you were gonna punish his random jumps with something big at one point.

Here’s a vid of me. Not a particularly amazing opponent, but general tips would be nice.

RAYZVT7pwjo]YouTube - ConsoleCombat 28Oct2010 SSFIV SmashFace[Cammy-Dan]-vs-[Gouken

^ From what I can tell it looks as if you have very solid execution. Your timing to stuff Cammy’s cannon spike is off. You either need to safe jump her or attack her reversal window by stuffing it after it starts up. I can tell you either already know how to stuff it or that you have the know how to stuff it b/c you timed a perfect dive kick on Dan at 3:35 and if he would have tried to reversal srk you it would have been advantage Gouken.

Overall good stuff, it’s nice to see Gouken applying the pressure!
