Anyone find any good uses for his HK yet? I’ve been playing around a bit and haven’t seemed to find any use for it. Even in combo’s I’d rather end with a gohadoken or dash punch
I think challenge mode has a similar one where it would be j.fp, s.fp, Ex Senkugoshoha, shin-shoryuken. (that if you are in the corner though.)
Knocking them to the complete opposite end of the screen. Plus you can’t combo into a Palm after a crouching short and you can combo into a Tatsu.
Merc 7sins if you want a good Gouken player, I’ll show you my 17 hitter.
so i dunno if this is new but i was just dicking around in training mode and i found that an instant air hurricane (done qcb, uf+k) will instantly crossup? pretty hard to do tho. practical?
I can get it to TK =/
Not every time, and sometimes he’ll move backwards instead of forwards, but I’m positive I can get his :qcb::k: to TK.
try :d::db::l::ub::u::ub::k: or :d::db::l::ub::u::uf::k:
Yeah Ive done it a couple times, but the timin gto TK it is pretty weird. Like you cant do it the exact instant you leave the ground but very very shortly after.
I’ve been playing around with this, and being able to punish a DP for 413 damage with one bar is pretty effing amazing. This alone destroys most Ken/Ryus who are usually DP happy.
I can get good AA against Ken or anyone who has good leg range. Most of the time when we are both in the air at the same they would get the hit on me first. Also gouken seems to be slow and has less range on his normal attacks. Only real problem i have is AA, Wakeup, and when people keeps their distance. His dash palms seems to lose against everything, even regular hits would beat it if its timed well. HK is random sometimes i would catch people who jump in but most of the times i get kicked in the face.
cr.fp AA doesn’t really work vs Chun’s jumpin fp at certain distances…I’ve gotten beat clean out of it at the distance where chun punches your extended arm isntead of your body almost everytime, and then at a slightly closer range it trades, then when they’re on top of you you smack them out cleanly.
I just don’t see the usefulness of Tiger Kneeing this. Maybe I’m missing something?
It has long recovery on it when you land.
I find Demon Flip to be a better get away move, and ex demon flip is completely invuln on startup.
that reminds me. Are there frame data available for Gouken?
Nope, I bought the guide hoping for some, but I was let down No frame data for console characters.
Question about armor breaking moves, especially multihit ones: Can Gouken counter them after blocking the first hit? For instance, Ryu’s tatsu armor breaks, but does every hit after the 1st hit have that property? Also, does anyone else ignore FA (outside of FADC combo’s) when maining Gouken, because of the counter? I can’t seem to find a defensive use for FA.
same. got the guide today but no dice:sad:
i don’t know if there’s enough time between multi-hitting specials to start up a counter. that’s something i’ll have to try. as for his FA, it has pretty good reach and you don’t have to guess parry high or low. on the other hand, his counter seems to punish moves faster so i would just use his FA for combo cancels and maybe throw it out there when i’ve got someone cornered. that way you can crumple them and get a guaranteed corner combo setup and you get some ultra meter as well.
you can’t really ignore FA since you can’t bait with counter. ie, you can’t dash out of a a counter attempt. or fadc through fireballs.
I still use FA’s when i play gouken.
I use lots of FA’s as Gouken - his range on it is very nice. Where does it work where counter doesn’t? A few places:
-if you don’t know if they will poke high or low and you lack EX
-if they are jumping in and you don’t know if they will empty -> sweep or jumpin attack
-enemy wakeup
-your own wakeup
-going through projectiles (though i’m not sure in what scenario you’d ever want to)
-messing with opp in the open
and anytime you have forced the enemy to freeze and they are standing in sweep range crouch blocking… start a focus attack. Play with the timing to either absorb their instinctive sweep or move to throw, or to peg them as they try to jump. Some chars this doesn’t work well due to the availability on armor breaking moves (don’t ever do this on blanka), but some it can really scare (do this a lot against akuma).
Got a questions about his air parry. (623+k, p) I’ve noticed that when he lands after deflecting an attack that he seems to have a few frames recovery. I tried to use this as a jump in to mess with people who tried to hit me with an anti-air but when I landed the recovery meant I usually eat a fist from my opponent. What kind of situation is this thing good for?

After Air to Air Demon Flip Parry…Your best bet is to try a throw…Not enough frame advantage to do much…
Aight Aight Ive been maining Gouken for quite some time…have over a 80% Win percentage with him and have picked up some tricks …
Some of which you guys have already pointed out…other that you havent…
I realize that Gouken SHOULD be played Aggressive with a mixture of defense here and there. Mainly because he does damage FAST and has great offensive and defensive capabilities.
To not be repetitive…
Small things ive noticed…
Back Throw, Walk Forward, Standing Jab, Crossover Jumping Mk
The Walkup standing jab gives you perfect distance for the crossover and obviously should be used sparingly because of the lack of damage you could be doing …
Cr Jab x 3, Lk Demon Flip Dive Kick, Cr Jab x 3, Demon Flip Throw…Great for mixup …I think it’s important to keep PRESSURE on with gouken in my opinion.
Cr Jab X 3> Stand Lk>Cr Strong…(Fireball-Demon Flip-Counter)
Learn to Buffer Counter from an empty jump…Very Useful
Ultra Combos from a VERY VERY VERY DEEP Demon Flip Dive Kick…I mean the tip of the foot registering a hit RIGHT before he lands…
EX SRK>Dash> Roundhouse Hurricane Kick…is definitely worth learning for the small extra damage vs. the Fierce Srk Followup…
Ultra Block Strings…
Blocked SRK OR Ex SRK>FADC> Back throw>Ultra
Blocked Hurricane Kick>FADC>Back throw> Ultra
Or Simply Focus Cancel…let the focus attack connect…>dash > Back Throw Ultra
I find the 90% Death combo is a pain to pull off online with the timing of the fierce fireball>jab fireball> fierce reset…
I simply do Fierce fireball>Fierce> Back throw ultra…
OR EX fireball (2hits) Fierce> Back throw Ultra…
After an Ex SRK Juggle to Fierce SRK or Dash>RH Hurricane kick
2 Dashes…Rh Demon Flip will get you in right back in their face…
If the quick wakeup…Demon flip Kick rinse and repeat…
If quick wakeup and they use a non armor breaking Srk-type move…Demon Flip Parry…
As we know…>Crouching Strong is his BEST poke…Cr Jab X 3> Standing Rh is a great block string also…
I avoid using Cr Mk and substitute Cr Lk for it instead…Essentially the Shoto cr Mk without the combo ability.
I also noticed Demon Flip Whiffed throw in the corner or crossup has some tricky properties…It makes Gouken Drop much quicker than usual…I usually do it when looking to land a backthrow…
Blocked String :Cr Jab x3>Cr Strong>Jab Fireball> Fierce Fireball…keeps people grounded and for some reason catches A LOT of scrubs and those with 4k Bp alike…they always seem to jump after the cr strong…
In my opinion One should learn to combo Fully Charged Jab Fireball > Level 2 Focus Attack in the corner…Whether it combos or not…shit is annoying and hard to get away from it…
Empty Demon Flip is also risky…but oh so tricky …
Jab fireball> Ex demon flip from full screen is nice pressure tool.
RagingStormX I added you as a friend…If you see random invites from Gamertag- Dirty Bodega (Which Im sure you have)…Hop in the room one of these days…Im dying to play another competent Gouken…
I think Gouken has all the tools to win…Blanka, Honda, and few non-fireball character can be zoned but still give him problems with his speed…
But for the most part he handles most of the cast with ease…IMO
Peace…
reallly good post shogun assasin.
other serious gouken players out there, do add me pls! im spending all my time on gouken… trying to find other gouken players but few out there who are serious into him…
add me, psn id: hanzhenyuan
thanks.
