Mashing dp or congo are two different worlds with two different expected outcomes, for my mash congo if I time it right I do interrupt bloc strings when opp timing is off, if I miss they finish their blocstring, but I only try if the first hit connects, and I stop when they complete their string. That is the way I use it.
If you are doing it in a blockstring you are hoping for the same result as teh mashing dper, only you get shittier results cause you are vulnerable to tick throws and the other guy isn’t. The other guy also doesn’t have to worry about high or low dp for the next attack in the block string. The other guy can FADC his DP. Nevermind once the opponent figures out you are mashing and stops his blockstring on purpose to punish you with something wicked.
No one has convinced me this is a good sound strategy with Gouken. I’m not going to do it and I really do not care if you guys do it or anyone with a DP does or whoever or whatever.
The only time I can see this is as remotely good is when you are already getting hit and the opponent is doing combos with links. Since you are already taking damage what’s the loss? Unless of course he purposely stops a combo to reset you into a free Ultra cause you mashed haha.
Listen, bottom line is, I don’t do it, and I don’t care if other people do it. For me, I do not see it as a sound strategy or a good habit. If that’s ok with you folks (cause I don’t have a problem with you guys doing it, can’t see why it is a problem for me not to do it, unless you guys have some sort of guilty conscience or something), can we just move on and get tis thread back on track?
Sirlin’s article starts out decent about competitive play and games. But then it turns really bland going on a tangent that drags it on a lot longer than it should.
tl;dr. Play to win, find the cheapest thing you can, try to break the game. If you did, then it’s not a good game and move on.

At the end of the day it really doen’t matter about Yun and Yang. If they have 4+ frame reversals, they’ll get the same thing everybody else gets.
That damage might get nerfed by the time it reaches console though. I can predict a couple of new characters as well when AE hits console. And we will be forced to purchase a new game at $39.99 again if we want to stay current.
