After years I got back at the game, and since the time I played SFII it got ridiculously technical. (that is my opening “I suck that’s why” excuse (-: )
I just got murdered to a Ryu that just used FA when I woke up…
What could I use in this case? Once I was down he starts to cast FA and as soon as I get up he would FA me and I was down again.

Either block it or EX spiral. Sometimes players use focus attack to bait a reaction and will dash cancel forward before you get up so they’ll be ready to block anything you’ll think will be a counter to focus attack. You can also back dash to avoid it and possibly throw them before the focus attack can touch you. More than anything, focus attack on your wake-up is a bait tactic.
