What do you think of Sent so far?
Good stuff so far, stoked for new Doom!
How are Storm’s new moves looking?
Deviljin, do you think the concerns of no blocking during an airdash have been blown out of proportion (specifically by Morrigan players) or will it really be an issue for the viability of certain characters?
I will like to know that as well, I really doubt Capcom wouldn’t think about a character like that.
Didn’t play with Sent much but I assume he’s similar. Only thing I can really tell you is stuff that’s already been mentioned. Like how his flight is supposedly a bit faster which may end up buffing his mix up a bit. I didn’t get to test to see if his armored air normals were for real or not…but I’m going to assume that’s not the case because online players would just want that patched out. They hate armor as it is and the hit boxes are already super disjointed and hard to poke at as is.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to try Storm. I saw some people playing her at the card shop where I got the game but didn’t really see anything that I haven’t already seen.
I touched on this in the Morrigan thread…but basically I feel the reason people have trouble with Morrigan’s movement is more so because they don’t know how to move with her than so much what the air blocking is going to do.
When the game was coming out (before it was even released I think), keits had the hyper guides up for the characters and I remember people writing off Doom because he couldn’t attack or block during his dash. Meaning he could basically not create a wave dash attack movement that pretty much all of the top tiers in Vanilla today have. Yet…people learned that he can cancel his dash into a jump and and then dash back down to simulate the speed of a wave dash (even if you couldn’t attack or block during it). That plus the ability to be the only character that can cancel his normal into a dash allowed him to really stay in once he got in even without assists. His super jump height movement is a little wonky to figure out also since he didn’t have any air normals that really scared people in the air with him. Yet…when you learn to shoot a photon shot first to cover yourself from being air thrown and then air dash down, it allows you to get in much easier. These techniques circumvent the air dash block removal pretty nicely especially with assists.
I think the same thing just needs to be done for Morrigan. Morrigan is like Doom in that her ground and air movement if you try to implement it like other characters just does not work. Her regular dash just like Doom’s is basically a death wish and she’s not exactly a character you just wanna be super jumping and then air dashing in with her funny air dash.
As far as the ground dash issue for Morrigan…that’s where the air dash height minimum being reduced comes in. It allows her to do a really low hop dash along the ground like Doom’s ghetto hop/wave dash and moves her across the screen basically even faster than Doom’s with less executional input. You basically just tap up and then a split second later hit down + S and repeat till you’re in. It travels her really fast along the ground and gets you into the range you need to start high low mix up nicely.
With the super jump height issue…she pretty much has to do what Doom does but this specifically is more execution intensive for Morrigan. Basically the idea is you want to cover your air approach as much as possible. If you’re just super jumping in with S you won’t get much. Though if you super jump, qcf+L or M flight cancel x 2 and then air dash down with S you basically create a wall of priority like Doom’s photon shot dash down stuff. You’re basically dashing down with a move that is extremely hard to anti air with any standing normals and can’t be air thrown plus 2 projectiles that have 5 durability each. This will allow you to get in rather safely.
Once those 2 things are explored more in Vanilla I think she’ll have what she needs to get in even with the air dash block nerf.
Capcom I would say more so probably wasn’t thinking about Hsien Ko a lot more compared to Morrigan. I think Morrigan is just more so a lack of knowledge and players kinda like February Doom was.
Everybody is calling Rocket Racoon another MODOK character, do you believe this is true?
Deviljin, do you agree?
(This reminds me I need to actually subscribe to the Hawkeye sub-forum rather than just lurking…)
I am at once both heartened to hear that Morrigan seems better than (read: not as nerfed as) anticipated, even if my hands are not, and dismayed to hear that Vergil is even stronger than I thought he would–seriously, projectile-destroying normals weren’t necessary–and that Mr. Parker is even weaker than he already was. Oh well, at least Vergil needs meter to be truly stupid unlike Dante (did); I can’t say that I BS some optimism for Mr. Parker other than maybe the way that Ultimate Web Throw is supposed to hit now making it theoretically easier to anti-air. Theoretically.
So, you planning to give every character a semi-fair shake? Or are you just going to stick with the Laura, Dante, Doom, the new characters and whatever characters your brother plays?
Regardless, I expect your report about Doctor Strange on my desk by Tuesday morning.
I mean I’m not sure what that really means. I mean I guess it means character that probably has some solid stuff but is too non intuitive for anyone but absolute purists of the character to play competitively in tournaments. I mean he doesn’t necessarily look as crazy to play as Modok. He pretty much looks like another space control character like Dorm with a much smaller hit box and generally harder to hit.
I’m basically going to be using the 4 teams in my sig. Generally I want Laura, Dante, Doom and Vergil, Stephen, Hiryu to be my two main teams and just run the one I like better overall most often (most likely going to be the old one but we’ll see). The other two Morrigan based teams will be nice side teams I’ll mess around with.
Honestly, not trying to jack DJ’s swag here, but as a Dante/Doom player I didn’t really notice. I was too busy swinging buttons during my airdashes anyway.
JJJ, a local Morrigan/Storm/Felicia player said that he can’t block when he’s rushing down anyway, so it doesn’t really matter
And can’t she fly/unfly then block? Her fly is way fast now.
You can get good mashes on a pad, but you have to re position your right hand to do so, **WHICH DEFEATS THE WHOLE POINT OF USING A PAD, **but after training with derp chainsaw battles on GOW 2 & 3 I should be okay. I guess.
Do blockstrings with stinger + beam still work?
What about s.M+Assist > stinger?
I know AA s.L is nerfed, but can you at least hit Wesker out of H teleport?
All plasma/uni beam stinger BC block strings work the same. Frames on plasma beam assist seem unchaged.
Nini Heart reported that s.M is a good alternative for anti air.
im gunna start my own impression thread with blackjack and hookers
That’s what I meant, people compare Rocky’s learning curve to MODOK. ALA a character with a ridiculously hard learning curve, and the rewards aren’t there. I personally don’t think anybody but Iron Fist has a MODOK level learning curve. MODOK is hard because he plays like nobody, and you have to teach yourself things you never have to do any other character. Iron Fist is like that when you must never launch people in the air.
Hey could you tell me if joe’s bombs still hurt him? If they don’t imma love them if they do F*** capcom seriously:mad:
Yea I absolutely hate the mashing, one thing im gonna despise. Hopefully just mashing the RT and LT buttons will work (As each of those buttons = 2/3 buttons in one) so lets hope.
Interesting, I was planning on using that assist since the beginning so sounds good. I thought it only hit once? Or am I being wrong here. Like I thought it would only hit crossup unless you do it really far. Gotta watch some vids. Man im gonna hate fighting him, but love using him. Hopefully he’s not that derp.
And blarg, I can do every bold cancel combo out there with Dante but I hate doing it online lmao.
Thank you for the informative thread.
I read one of your earlier posts that you were working on bold blocking in Vanilla…does this still work in Ultimate?
Another question: Does bold blocking work for normals as well as fast supers?
I get it, its from Faturuma!!!
Taskmaster sure looks good in this game
Yes.
Honzo, try to keep posts on topic and meaningful. Giving you a fair warning since you (usually) post meaningful messages, but try to keep the trolling to a minimum over the next few weeks. Us mods are gunna have our hands full or trollrific posts for a month or more.
Same for you Paperbowser. This comment added nothing to the conversation. Stay on topic, gentlemen
