Good teams for Trish?

To be honest, now that Trish has a OTG of some sort, she’ll be fine in any team.

Yep I’d agree, playable in any spot on any team. Some will be better than others of course, but much better than the restrictions she had in Vanilla.

unless there have been some new buffs i think she will be at her best at the 1 or 2 position. I also see her being top 5 in this game when ultimate comes out

I agree there too. She had great match-ups in Vanilla and has only improved while others above her received nerfs.

I still like her most in the first position because you can take advantage of Round Harvest unblockables. You lose that ability once she’s in position 2 or 3, even though she’s still very capable in those spots.

This is why i tend to run her on point, also i find it very difficult to run her and NOT have an unblockable setup

IMO she can run anchor but it consists of more lame than rushdown or setups. If you’re not content on playing lame, then yea, she’s not really going to be a great anchor in your spot.

But in order for that to really work, you need your battery and your secondary to do most of the work and have Trish clean up with timing out or handling the anchor.

That is why i think she is better at the 1 or 2 cuz she can transition from rushing almost as smoothly as storm can and i think she is at her best when she can play both effectively and for her to do that she NEEDS assist

Kjunk How do you feel about Spidey/Trish/Sentinel ??

I’d really love a wall of text It helps me understand better.

i can tell you right now Robin that kjunk is gonna say someone needs to be replaced for an otg assist an its probably gonna be spiderman

maximum spider leads into some roundharvest setups! Spiderman is crucial ill just have to switch sentinel to rocketpunch maybe? o rjust replace sentinel with wesker or x-23

So how do you guys approach the magneto matchup with Trish. I run Viper(burn kick)/Trish(Low Voltage)/Dr. Doom(Hidden Missiles) and when I face a magneto player I have alot of trouble against him if Viper is dead. Very time I try to zone him I either eat a super if I am in the air. A disruptor if Im on the ground and if im kidna close to him a I get destroyed by a hyper grav. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fight him. I also have a hard time approaching him.

Also is Trish’s Low voltage assist gonna be faster in ultimate

Haha, pretty much

It does lead to Round Harvest setups, but you have no way to do unblockables with that team so they aren’t really that hot.

Spiderman’s a very versatile character that is very dependent on specific assists in Vanilla. Sentinel is one of them, but Trish doesn’t add much to him. Additionally, it doesn’t feel like Trish gets quite as much from Sentinel drones as other characters. Drones are still drones though.

I would try this team in Ultimate when all 3 characters are buffed and there might be something workable there. Spidey and Trish are both too reliant on specific assists in Vanilla to pair together.

Remember that he can’t Shockwave in the air. This gives you a good idea of when to be throwing multiple air specials, dive kicking or air dashing - when he’s in the air. If he’s not in the air and has meter, you have to respect the Shockwave.

Be very cautious against his Disruptors. Approach slowly in the air and try to get him to whiff an aerial Disruptor. If he does, you can air dash or dive kick in safely and start your pressure. He will begin to start to look for air-throws on you, so be ready for it with j.:h: option selects, or air dash option selects with :h:.

And lastly make liberal use of :d::m: on the ground. It’s very strong against Mags.

I’m not sure but I don’t think her Low Voltage assist is faster or different in Ultimate.

thanks for the info. I feel magneto is her worst matchup but I might be wrong. Damn I was low voltage assist was faster. I was thinking of switching the order of my team so Viper can use low voltage to get in

Thanks Kjunk. ill try out a new squad in ultimate

Hey guys,

TL: DR I run Trish/X-23/Spencer - should I keep Spencer? What are other good assist options for Trish that will give her a good assist and will be able to set up good unblockables?

Wall of Text:

I have been a Trish man since day one, but I can have left this game and come back quite a bit so my finger hasn’t been on the pulse of the competitive community as much as I’d like it to be. I have recently come back to this game with full force, mostly because i have found talented players to play casuals with.

I have been running Spencer/Trish/XXX for a long time, but only in the last month have I actually sat down and starting seriously working on my team. Competition will do that to you, I guess. Slowly I have started to reach the conclusions that all of you have reached - she is a great as a point character, and she needs an OTG assist if she is able to have decent damage output. So, I changed my team into Trish/X-23/Spencer to mild success. Still, I feel that the team synergy is not up to par with my competitors. Trish is my favorite character in the game and is who I consider my main, so I want to build a great team around her. I need your help fellow Trish enthusiasts.

I have seen RDK, Jago, etc., show off their Trish teams, and I can see that Trish is really useful at setting up the unblockables with Round Harvest. Now, X-23 has that covered as her attack is low hitting as well as an OTG. Two birds one stone. Spencer also has the overhead that is necessary to complete the unblockable as well as the damage output to follow up the set up.

Now to my question - is Spencer a good third for Trish/x-23? I have read here that Trish needs an assist to let her get in on a character or to push them out.** Do you guys recommend any of Spencer’s assist to help out? Or should I just change him for someone else?** Spencer has been my marquee character forever - he has always been less execution heavy than Trish so I was able to get really scary rather quickly with him - but now my Trish is the biggest threat in my team.

Can you guys offer me any advice? If you guys think I should take out Spencer, then could you guys throw in some alternatives? It will be a shame to part with Spencer as he has been one of my mains since week one, but if I need to sacrifice a little sentimentality for the overall team I will.

On a side note: will this all be moot with UMVC3 so close to dropping? Have you guys eyed out any of the new characters for your Trish teams?

It sounds like you really understand the dynamics of the OTG assist and Round Harvest unblockables, which is great. I’m a big fan of the Trish + X-23 combo, and I think they’re both positioned to improve a lot in Ultimate. Do realize though that you don’t need a command overhead like Spencer’s to make the unblockable work - anyone can just jump and hit with a high attack as X-23’s Ankle Slicer comes in.

Unfortunately Spencer’s assists don’t offer a lot to either Trish or X-23. Spencer’s assists are largely reset tools and combo extenders, but they don’t work very well for the chicks in leather. And Spencer and X-23 both like to benefit from having an assist that helps them get in as well, like Sentinel Drones or a good projectile.

While I don’t think the team is bad by any means, you may have more success with a third character that has a good assist like Magneto, Dr. Doom, Taskmaster, Iron-Man, Sentinel, or Akuma. Dante with Jam Session also works well for both Trish and X-23 even though it’s not a traditional ‘get in there’ assist.

I think it’s a good discussion to have - Trish is a character poised to do well in Ultimate I think, might as well start dreaming up some teams for her.

I still plan on running her with an OTG assist, someone like X-23, She-Hulk, Wesker or C. Viper at this point. It really helps to have that OTG assist to push someone all the way to the corner in one combo to get the Round Harvest unblockable going.

Some of the new characters may fill that spot - I know Ghost Rider has one, though I’m not sure on how fast it is. Iron Fist has one but the range is really short. Firebrand has a slow one.

Most likely I’ll be sticking with Trish / Viper and just looking for someone that synergizes well with them.

I am hoping for Vergil to be a good 3rd for my Trish/X-23 pair. If anything, his judgement cut assist should at least be a good mini-dark hole(ala dorm) or even a max-dark hole when in DT mode. And there may or may not be potential with his rapid slash assist, but that’s something that will take some working out as it’s just less safe than you’d generally like in an assist that’s meant to help you get in.

I’m also potentially considering Ryu, which is a character I swore I would never pick up in Marvel, for a 3rd. I’m not sure why. But he’s been pretty fun to mess around with in the past week or so and will supposedly show massive improvement in ultimate. Of course, none of his assists are really exceptional for getting in.

My other thoughts concerning Trish/X-23 and assists center around X’s dp assist. She will gain the ability to talon attack out of her crescent slash. If it’s possible to do this for her cross-over counter version of the attack, it will be very attractive to chance a meter on that and possibly grab happy birthdays on demand with the benefit of airborne XFC. Talon attack would help to make the CS much less unsafe if you miscalculated.

I like Ryu’s Tatsu as a combo extender for X-23. He adds a little bit of damage to Trish’s combos as well, and obviously he can DHC off anyone anywhere.

I’ve also started playing with Trish/Zero lately. Trish can DHC from Round Harvest into Zero’s Sougenmu (shadow super), and he can do ‘unblockables’ without the need for an assist. This can allow for some new team setups, too.

They both play incredibly lame harassment games, and I could see this making for a very frustrating team.

See, that’s the stuff I missed when I left the game. That is really good to know.

Thanks! I played around training mode trying out your suggestions for an hour or so today and I have narrowed it down to Taskmaster (H. arrows), Dante (Jam Session), and Akuma (Tatsu). I am leaning more towards Taskmaster or Akuma just because they are less execution heavy characters - X-23 is being a handful right now, so I need to focus on her right now. I like Akuma’s Tatsu, but I feel safer with Taskmaster’s arrows. I really like seeing a non-scrub Dante play, but since he is changing a bit in ultimate (executions are going to be a little different and bold moves are going to work differently) it might not be good to invest much time in him before Ultimate drops. I can use that time to work on my X-23, who is garbage at the moment.

What about the “get in there” assists? Any noteworthy ones from the newcomers?

So far, surprisingly few! Most of the new cast appears to have combo extension assists. Hawkeye has a projectile assist that’s very similar to Taskmaster’s horizontal arrows - that could work.

Dr. Strange has a few projectiles: one is immobile, one is tracking but takes a while to start-up, and the last one is a long duration beam that unfortunately is easily crouched under.

Nemesis has a rush that has super armor, but it’s short range. Strider, Firebrand, Ghost Rider, Vergil and Phoenix Wright, not really. Nova oddly has no projectile assist. And we haven’t seen Frank West or Rocket Raccoon yet.

Also, I’ve heard hit stun is a bit different in Ultimate so you may not want to put a ton of time into Taskmaster’s advanced stuff just yet - he will most likely have some new combos to learn in the first few days. You can pick up the basics with him very quickly, though.

I think X-23 and Trish are staying mostly the same. Can certainly work on their stuff and X’s Mirage Feint Cancels until Ultimate’s out
