Speaking of Vergil, I’m starting to like Vergil/Dormammu/Magneto. Rapid Slash can be treated as a semi-GTFO assist while providing lockdown to charge Dark Spells. Granted it’s not Missiles, but still a good assist nonetheless.
I think it’s much better than Wesker/Dormammu/Magneto, though Vergil isn’t known to be the best battery in the world and as Karst said, if you get Vergil going, Dormammu might not even get a chance to shine. Still a solid beginner friendly team that provides satisfaction for the most part.
If Eye of Agamotto didn’t fail to interact with bullets for some reason, I would totally run this assist with Dormammu forever. It’s SO GOOD.
Perfect combo extension from anywhere, including this beauty:
j.S, c.LHS, sj.MMHS, call Eye of Agamotto, Dark Spell L, Flame Carpet, Dark Matter, Dark Spell L, s.S, 1D1C, Purification, Chaotic Flame
If you can get Eye of Agamotto on the screen, it lasts long enough to let Dormammu charge 1D2C AND release it, and it completely covers 1D2C’s dead zone. Dr. Strange also recovers as an assist just as 1D2C resolves, so you can chain 1D2C while covered by Eye of Agamotto forever.
Eye of Agamotto lets Morrigan steal TWO whole bars of meter and do some pretty solid damage, and of course it’s amazing for her zoning.
I would totally risk Dormammu not having a “Get off me” assist for Eye of Agamotto if it interacted with bullets. -_- WHY CAPCOM WHY?!
It seems like no assist helps with Chris’ Magnum.
Eye of Agamotto > Vergil. His attacks can’t reach Dormammu and hit the Eye of Agamotto.
Nope! It does go through EoA, but EoA remains. So while Hawkeye might be able to plow through it, Spritzer has a slow startup (easier to punish with Chaotic Flame), and Hawkeye’s assists will still be stopped, which makes it worthwhile for consideration for this matchup. With only one projectile coming at Dormammu, it would be a lot easier to s.M, Purification H or something.
What’s that? Dormammu can let Morrigan combo into Astral Vision followed by Soul Drain in a single combo? Why, goodness me!
So I was messing around with Dr. Strange’s Eye of Agamotto assist, and trying to do the Soul Drain loops off of it. Then I thought “Hmm, I wonder what happens if I try the combo starter with Dark Hole?” And, to my surprise, it works! I’m still working out the kinks, but I like to report discoveries ASAP to folks.
j.S, s.LMH, f.H + Dark Hole, qcf.H, Astral Vision, qcf.S
I haven’t figured out what to do beyond that point. You can do s.S followed by MMHS, qcf.S, dp.AA to steal 1.5 bars of meter from your opponent, but you can also fly-cancel the qcf.S into qcf.L to go for the Soul Fist ping-pong effect. I just thought I’d let anyone know who happens to play Dormammu/Morrigan like I do, or people who have pinning assists that never thought of this (I bet Cold Stars works).
Edit: In case anyone plays Dormammu/Amaterasu, when you THC with Dormammu on point, you can charge 3D0C and unleash it, Dark Hole, Chaotic Flame.
It has taken me 6 months to get used to playing her in the neutral, but I find her a very rewarding and fun character. I had at least a dozen XF3 Morrigan comebacks today just because while she’s awful at opening people up alone, she’s really hard to touch for a large portion of the cast.
I started out learning to do:
Jump, qcf.L, fly, ADD, j.S
It’s simple, gets you used to the fly-cancel input, and gets her in safely. You can get reasonably far with her just spamming this safely.
I was thinking… in you guys opinion would … spencer a good character on point on a dorm team? planning spencer dorm doom with dark hole and maybeee missiles.
What’s the best you can do midscreen with Dormammu and a Nova assist (either wallbounce or groundbounce)? So far I’ve been able to get corner combos of over a million with the DHC, but midscreen I can’t really do better than the standard magic series into flame carpet, groundbounce, dark matter, dark hole H, Chaotic Flames. It’s 700k (or around 800k if you use meteor shower before the dark hole), which isn’t bad, but is it possible to get more?
Also, my third char right now (running him on anchor) is doom… I’m running missiles assist, but would plasma beam be better for Dorm?
Missiles, it gives like 2 or 3 UVG grapples to Spencer, i think Bionic Arm>Stalking Flare lets you charge spells and do some nice extensions, but not sure.
Maybe something like LMH>Dark Matter>teleport>j.MHS>MS>sj.MHS>Nova+Flame Carpet>Dark Matter>Dark Hole>Chaotic Flame
Dante DT chip setups are so godlike, doing 50% chip that cannot be advance guarded, it makes me love the character even more.
To be honest, you should be flexible in the assist you pick. Missiles with Dorm basically gives you the only zoning game capable of defeating Morrigan + Missiles and overpowering almost any team. It’s really powerful assuming you can get the initial charge spells. Hell, I’ve run Dorm, Doom, Morrigan (meter Assist) just to see how long I can keep it going and it is super cheap. You’re basically always covering the screen in hitboxes and your net meter loss is actually pretty low for each cycle of powered up spell, missiles, meter assist, stalking flare. Get up to 2.5 meters and you can basically make it so the other person can’t push buttons for quite some time.
Beam comes into play when Missiles won’t work. This is for characters like Captain America (Hyper Charging Start), Sent (Hard Drive) or Vergil who have a means of getting in or applying pressure fast enough that it’s risky to go the pure zoning route. Since you can play full-screen cross-up game with the Beam, it is pretty powerful but limits Dorm’s zoning game a little since it isn’t on the screen for a long time. I’d recommend missiles in most cases since it makes Dorm’s main strength (zoning game) much more powerful to the point of nearly being broken. The only other factor is whether it makes your other character better. I use Beam for Tasky because it makes him much better than missiles IMO. You get a great mix-up game out of it, the combo extensions do a lot more damage, you protect Shield Skills far better with beam and you can basically dominate the ground with the beam alone. Tasky can’t really project Missiles assist too well since he can’t lock opponent down very well, so I don’t like it. Plus, since I’m the only person who probably uses Sword Master regularly, the hits of the Beam are fast enough that the opponent can’t AG out of Sword master (I also use Hole for this as well). However, if I drop Task for someone else (like Morrigan or Spencer) then I would most definitely go the Missiles route.
Hey all, recently picked up Dorm to pair with my favorite character storm. Any suggestions on who to run on anchor for a Storm(whirlwind)/Dorm(Blackhole)/xx team?
Currently have Ammy in that spot, but concerned about overall health of my team thus far and can’t shake the feeling that there is a better choice (not a fan of doom unfortunately) to fill the role. Any assistance/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the suggestion! Took some time last night to test it out and they seem to play off of one another quite well. Drones makes a huge difference.
Wow, thanks for the great explanation. I’ll give missiles more of a try. I just saw FChamp using beam and I figured, “There seems to be something to this…” In my A-team, I use doom beam mainly because wesker really doesn’t get as much from Missiles.
I’m not really seeing what Dorm would add to Felicia’s gameplay. She doesn’t have the same level of stupid post-OTG combos that Doom has to capitalize on liberation assist, black hole is a pretty meh lockdown assist, dorm doesn’t really have a zoning assist that can be used regularly… The DHC options aren’t too terrible, I guess? What do you see getting out of it?
Oh right, Dorm can get LMH dark matter into a teleport combo. I keep forgetting that you can do that outside of the corner. Light or Medium teleport?
Also, what do you do against Spiderman’s Ultimate Web Throw resets in the corner? Does Dorm have a way out of late combo OTG->web throw reset?
