Good partners for Dormammu?

Well, the way I look at it is this:
If you just want defense, then why choose Hsien-ko over Haggar, when they do roughly the same thing defensively, but Haggar is overall a better character and you don’t have to spend a bar of meter and go through the hassle of tagging him out to use his assist?

That’s why, IMO, Hsien-ko should be reserved for those ground mobile characters. Haggar will help them, sure, but Hsien-ko offers them something extra.

I’m looking for some advice. I want to make a Dorm/Doom pairing and I keep hearing that plasma beam is better than missiles. Is this true? And why? Doesn’t Dorm cover the horizontal with dark matter? Also I know Dorm isn’t the best on point. Would Wesker work well out front? Or what about a character with a horizontal assist and let Doom use missiles? Someone like Task?

Who’s been telling you that? Plasma Beam is good for knockback and can help in zoning wars, but one problem is that it lowers overall damage if used as a combo starter in a teleport crossup/mixup.

Dark Matter is only 1 durability point, which means any projectile will beat it. That’s one reason why you might want to use Plasma Beam.

Wesker works out front, but it’s nice to have a point character who can also provide a good assist to Dormammu. The OTG gun is nice, but it’s not really necessary. Task/Dorm/Doom works.

Well I think I’ve seen it a few times around the Dorm threads but I also recently watched Canada Cup and FChamp wreck face with point Dorm backed up by plasma beam with Phoenix on the back.

Plasma Beam and Hidden Missiles are both extremely good. I think it’s more of a style preference than anything else, or something to be decided by matchup.

Dorm with Plasma Beam is still pretty dangerous. Eddie Lee uses Doom beam too with his Dorm.

After those 5 assists, what are 6-10 in your opinion?

I def think that tatsu should be considered top 10 if not top 5. It’s a great gtfo me assist and can be used for teleport mixups.

I also like Molecular Shield, but I don’t think it’s stronger than Plasma Beam.

It gets shaky after top 5, but I’d go…
6. Double Lariat
7. Unibeam
8. Rapid Slash
9. Eye of Agamotto
10. Mystic Ray

After that, there’s a lot of same-y stuff. Shopping Cart, Tatsu, Hulk Gamma Charge AA, and Rising Dragon are all kind of doing the same thing, and none are especially better at it than any other. Bolts of Balthakk is interesting for its versatility, Vajra is solid, and since you’re considering Bolts, which has notable weaknesses, you can start considering multi-hitting projectiles like Dagger Toss and arrow assists, and Sentinel Force comes in somewhere around here because while it’s very useful and versatile, it’s also hard as hell for Dormammu to call in certain matchups that are also popular characters (Magneto, Wesker, twins). I think “Get em Missile!” is interesting to consider at around this point, because it hits low, and Dormammu is all over the air. Chain of Rebuttal is probably around Bolts of Balthakk, Cold Star is around Tatsu’s level, and then, lastly, you have the “only useful for combo extension” stuff like Tenderizer and Chun-li’s lightning legs. It’s hard to rank Senpu Bu because it wouldn’t be fair to judge an assist that takes a bar of meter, which is a metagame consequence, compared to other assists that don’t, but I’d probably rank Senpu Bu under the four “get off me” assists I listed above.

No way will you get me to put that all in a list, haha, but I think it covers every assist you’d ever want to use with Dormammu, though I might have missed one in there somewhere.

I think the Tatsu does very little for him, personally. Akuma as a whole isn’t bad because you get a vicious DHC to punish assists, but I think that’s the main reason you back Dormammu with Akuma, not the assist.

Unibeam so good, you listed it twice? :stuck_out_tongue: Unless you meant to say Repulsor Blast, since that really helps Dorm and has a unique aspect to it.

About Lariat, seems like players are starting to see that rumors of the complete fall of Lariat have been greatly exaggerated. I like it for Dorm jump loops.

I’d put Repulsor Blast a hint above Gamma Charge AA, since it’s not as safe but is more versatile.

One of the Unibeams was supposes to be Eye of Agamotto. Fixed it now. I was messing with the order and screwed the list up somehow.

I don’t know why the world stopped using Double Lariat. Sure, it’s not the SSS Tier assist it was in Vanilla, but it’s really fricken good. I used it on my Ghost Rider team for a while and thought “why did everyone stop using this?” Plus Haggar is a much better character now. It just goes to show how much people pick their teams based off of what’s popular instead of actually experimenting and thinking about what’s good.

The only reason I don’t run Double Lariat is it tends to make me a little too defensive, and I like to stay very mobile with my Dormammu play. For another kind of style, it’s a fantastic assist. It would also mean that I would need to drop Morrigan, since Haggar/Morrigan isn’t going to do anything once Dormammu is dead, haha.

I had a lot of fun messing around with Haggar/Dormammu/Magneto (also got inspired by seeing Ranmasama using that team). Sort of a pseudo Eddie Lee team. I like to use Disruptor assist for quick Dorm DM + Purification zoning.

Plus it’s all three archetypes in one team: heavy/keepaway/pixie.

how well is he with ghost rider I’m making team flame heads
ghost rider, dorm phoenix

That team is ass.

well it’s doing the trick but I was looking for advice or anything that would help really

You need to pick a better third character (can I suggest Doom and his Hidden Missiles?)

I’ll give it a try I thought jean because of dorm’s speels build a lot of meter and my dorm/ ghost rider aren’t very good :expressionless:

Akuma bnbs and setups I figured out tonight (Dormammu on point):

j.S, c.LH + tatsu, Mass Change M, j.H, j.LMH, s.MS, sj.MMHS, dp.M, qcf.AA

Mixes up if c.LH is blocked, still combos if it wasn’t.

Reset:
j.S, c.LHS, sj.MMHS, dp.M ~~~ Mass Change M, fly, Dark Spell L, Dark Spell L, call tatsu, Mass Change M; if Tatsu was blocked, Flame Carpet blockstrings. If Tatsu hit, combo.

Jump, air dash up near opponent, call Tatsu, Mass Change M, j.H, j.MHS, j.MHS, s.MS, sj.MMHS, dp.M, qcf.AA

Corner combo:
j.S, c.LHS, sj.MMHS, df.H + tatsu, j.MHS, s.MS, sj.MMHS, dp.L, qcf.AA

Ground throw combo:
dash, df.H + tatsu, qcf.H, qcf.AA (this is seriously the most you can do mid-screen)

Feel free to add more.

I’ve been going back and forth with which Dorm team I should focus on and I cannot seem to find one I’m confident in. I originally ran Taskmaster, Dormammu, Akuma but I do not feel that this team is a strong Dorm team. The problem that I’m seeing is when Taskmaster dies, all I have left is Dorm with tatsu, and while I feel tatsu is a great assist, I don’t feel as though its enough to properly play Dorms zone game alone. When you call tatsu and its gone, it’s gone, and Dorm is vulnerable. If I played Doom I would def run missiles, but I don’t play the character and I don’t have any desire to play him. Also while it is possible to use Tasks arrows for projectile+teleport mixups, Tasks arrows are far too slow to be effective as faster and durable beam assists like em disruptor. Now I don’t play nor want to play Magneto or Dante( many of you mention jam session) so I’m left with characters that I play or have played in the past. So I’m posting here to hear some of your thoughts on two teams that I’ve been toying with:

Captain America/Dorm/Sentinel and Dorm/Sentinel/Akuma

With the Cap team I figure Cap can really utilize both Dark hole and Drones for cart wheel mixups, and his hyper charging star into chaotic flame can really blow some teams up. Dorm can use Caps charging star assist for corner combo extensions and as a gtfo me assist, and can use drones to zone. I’ve been playing with this team for a couple of days and they do tons of damage together.

Now the Dorm point team is another team I’ve been using. I know Dorm has start of the round issues against rush down characters so I figure that Tatsu can help with that. Also I know that Sentinel and Akuma can be a strong pair together as well. Also I am not of fan of Akuma on point despite his fast walk speed and start of the round options. He is just too damn fragile.

Really would like to hear some feed back on these teams, and most importantly how good Dorm is with drones.any help would be appreciated.

My feeling on drones is this:
It makes Dormammu’s good matchups great, and it doesn’t do much for his poor matchups. For that reason, I consider it a mid-tier assist for him.

Dante,Vergil ,Taskmaster can also do it.
