Good partners for Dormammu?

Finally settled on this:

Wesker/Iron Man/Dormammu

Wesker’s OTG+low gun attack assist to help Ironman create unblockables and to extend Dorm’s combos.
Iron Man’s Unibeam to aid Dorm and Wesker.
Dorm has his Purification assist to help Iron Man control space better.

One zoner, one rushdown and one character that’s a jack-of-all-trades. Dorm is good at long range, IM good at mid-range, Wesker good at close range. All deal solid damage and can take a beating. Wesker is the battery and pointman.

What do you guys think of this team on Paper?

Chris(gunfire)/Doom(Rocks)/Dormmamu(what assist)?

I’m running Shulk-torpedo/Dorm-hole/Hulk-wave and Darmammu is definitely the weak link as far as assists go. His DHC and point game is great, esp with those two assists, but Dark hole assist I’m not finding very useful. I could use purification but neither Shulk nor Hulk have a lot of trouble in that area. Can liberation be useful at all?

I’m honestly thinkking about using liberation more often when I play dormammu as point. If you are actively looking for opportunities to build PoD, you’ll find that the assist is quite helpful. Hit the lab and see how your other characters can punish full screen knockbacks.

I’m finally settling on a team of Haggar(lariat)/Chris(gunfire)/Dormamu(???) and I’d like to know whether liberation or purifacation would be the better assist. I’m also considering shifting around the order for the better DHC’s/saving Haggar for later. Any ideas what I should be doing with this kind of team?

I’m not sure if this is the correct thread for this or not (I am talking about assists…), but I’m just not feeling it with Dormammu as my first point character. I absolutely love the character design (R.I.P. Blackheart), but he just gets torn up so badly against just about every single pixie in the game, especially at the start of the match where they can get on top of you before the game actually even starts. Of all of the characters I’ve played so far, he’s the only one who feels so utterly handicapped without a “get the fuck off me” assist, and it’s almost like it’s mandatory to pair him with specific characters.

I wanted to play Dorm/Doom/Sent, but that has not worked out that great so far. Doom has rocks sure, but that’s not what Dormammu actually needs once he’s where he should be on the screen. The plasma beam is the best Doom assist for long range/projectile wars. Sentinel’s drones just take Dorm’s zoning to an entirely other level, but then he’s stuck with no real way out once someone actually manages to get in. Rocket punch is “ok” but then nowhere near as useful except in those situations. I don’t find Rocket punch “corner pressure” to be more effective than drones either. Doom rocks are probably the best middleground, but are still very inferior to the plasma beam overall. Yet neither of these two work when shoved into a corner, and teleporting is not an option. The startup is just too slow, and advancing guard is not the “be all end all” solution either.

It really seems like for Dormammu to actually have a much easier time against being shoved into a corner and then losing 50% - 70% of his life within the first 10 seconds he needs either Haggar or Dante. I don’t really like the fact that I’ll need to use one of the same characters I’m already using in another team that fits pretty much anywhere just to make another team “work”. I also don’t really have anything against Haggar, but he just doesn’t seem to “fit” on a zoning team other than just for his assist.

I suppose I could just use Trish, but I’d rather have Doom, and not having Sent drones just feels like an even bigger handicap (not even factoring in the Sentinel itself). I was having a lot of success with Dorm/Storm/Sent, but again I’d like to play Doom. Am I just being too unreasonable?

I’ll post this here and in the other thread: I use Sentinel (Drones)/Dormammu (Purification)/Dr. Doom (Missiles). While I love Plasma Beam and all it offers, I am enjoying Hidden Missiles as a “combo breaker” - it’s possibly the only assist in the game that can help you while you are in hitstun.

Also, notice that my team order is different. I start Sentinel, but I don’t intend to keep him on point. I start every match by double jumping right before it starts, calling Dr. Doom, and then entering flight mode near the top of the screen. The match always starts on my terms, with Sentinel having aerial advantage, and missiles about to rain down. My very first combo against my opponent, I end it with Hyper Sentinel Force and DHC it into Chaotic Flame. Now Dormammu is on point, and my opponent and I are on opposite sides.

Hey man I have nearly the same sentiment. To me, Sent is just so versatile and the assist is so important for doom and dormammu’s mix up.

However, like u said, it makes no difference once they get in on u. Haggar isn’t necessary, but it almost seems like the best pick for an assist. My team is Doom/Dorm/Haggar and most games Haggar never comes on the screen just as an assist. And if he does come on the screen, oh well, i’ll jsut do crazy haggar stuff.

Doom is so good at building meter and dorm is the perfect character to burn said meter. The only problem is that dorm does not provide any type of assist to help doom start his mixups. That said, you probably need to learn how to set things up wtih doom by himself. Ie missiles air photon array etc

Yeah, I’m not having much of an issue with Doom by himself. I’ll of course use Sentinel’s drones when appropriate, but Doom has just enough mobility to get in if you’re trying to rushdown, and following a jumping :l: photon shot is usually a pretty safe, assist free way to get in. The more I think about it though, it does feel kind of a bit backwards having Doom second since he’s the battery of the team, and he doesn’t really DHC that good off of Dorm except in specific situations, while Dorm can easily do either of his hypers off of Doom ending a combo with an aerial Photon Array and will still probably be ahead in meter. I like the idea of having Sentinel first too, but I guess I’ll try with Doom for meter building and see how that goes.

Dorms got great moves but a lot are unsafe from rushdown and projectiles. so have ne of u tried hsien kos reflect assist? this alone would let you shut down all projectiles and spam your own. pair this with peekaboo, larriat, or tron flame and you may be able to zone a lot of charcters. I still like to have a battery in my team tho so right now I use taskmaster. he racks up damage and meter then his assists adds to full screen lock down.

hsienko also does very well against ur average spam sentinels as well

How does chris, dorm, haggar in that order sound?

Which assist is best for dorm btw.

I run the same team although I run Haggar first and Chris last. I used to run Haggar/Chris/Dorm, but I find putting Dorm in the middle makes DHC’s better. It also helps to have your most used assist in the third position since it won’t come in when the point character dies and drain all the red health.

Dormamu’s assists haven’t really gotten much use from me so I can’t really say which is best. I just use purification for an OTG with Haggar and an AA with Chris vs random superjumps/flying sentinels. I played vs. one guy who used dark hole assist to rush down with and that seemed to work well. I’m not sure how well Haggar or Chris can protect the assist from being punished though and Dormamu just stands there for a long time. Liberation seems like it has the most potential, but I forget to stock carges most of the time and it sucks without any charges.

I have been trying to run Dorm/Morrigan/Sent. @ first i wasnt a fan of sent until i seen how godly his assists r for dorm lol. i put morrigan in with meter building assist so that dorm can b point char and basically solo it out. BUT im not too strong with morrigan. gotta figure out a better way of using her. if not ill prob give trish a try as my point char.

Doom’s Missiles help me out greatly, as well as any beam projectiles.
Projectile to M teleport, to a combo into a launcher work wonders.

On top of it, using purification as his assist is good since it OTG’s and you can relaunch.

I’m usually playing Spider-man, Dorm, and Deadpool.
Spidey builds meter, deadpool relaunches, dorm, relaunches and used meter. Spidey, also has a projectile for Dorm, Deadpool builds meter too.

The eventual goal is to air combo with spidey when I know I’ll have 5 meters at the end of the combo, otg with deadpool, then Ultimate spider into the flaming ball of death to set me up with dormmamu and a little time to charge up my hands and apply some pressure.

Sentinel Force is also amazing with Drom.

o ic. so basically u keep dorm outa the match for the most part?
cuz i was going to ask how u stopped crazy rush down?

I’ve been running Dorm (A)/Storm (A)/Hsienko (A) with pretty good results.

You end up with two characters that can easily DHC in and out of each other and possibly the best “get away from me!” assist in the game. This helps Dorm a lot more than a beam assist, imo.

I’ve been rather successful with Wesker (Samurai Edge) / Dorm (Dark Hole) / Akuma (Tatsu). Wesker is on point, but Dormammu is the real beef of the match. Wesker and Akuma are there to soften up the opponents, gauge fighting techniques, and build meter for when Dormammu comes into play and kills off the entire other team

First off, I’m relatively inexperienced with the MvC series, but since I’ve picked the game up, I’ve been very happy using Doom/Dormammu, but I’m having a hard time finding a third to complement these two. Any suggestions? I’ve used Hsien-Ko, Spider-Man, She Hulk, and Storm with mixed results.

It took me a while to build a team around Dormammu, but I had to do it because Dormammu is by far my best character (I’m a bit of a n00bcake to the VS series).

I finally came up with a few characters that I can mix around to help Dormammu out. My sort of bread and butter team starts with Wolvie then Dorm and then Sentinel. I like starting with Wolvie because I can get inside easily and build meter. With Sentinel I like him just because he’s strong and can take a lot of hits, just good for sticking around long enough to get Wolvie or Dorm’s red health replenished and still racking up quite a bit of damage on the opponent. I also use Sentinel if my opponent decides to start a spam war I give him one he can’t win.

Dormammu is almost always someone I save for last or use when the guy out gets K.O.ed and usually in the second instance I don’t leave him out for too long. I sort of go by the philosophy of saving the best for last with this team and most of my teams.

The times I don’t wait til the end to used Dormammu are when I use my MODOK teams because MODOK’s barrier is just so useful to Dormammu, it can give him time give a finger shot and then load up on dark spells, it can give additional protection to the flame carpet, etc.

My other character that I really like to use with Dormammu is Trish because I guess she just has a good feel and her assists for Dormammu are pretty sweet, the peekabo one is awesome. She’s a pretty well rounded character too, I can rush with her if I have to or just sit back and relax.

Since I’ve started using the first setup a lot I have improved my winning percentage 10% (although there wasn’t much room to go down for me lol). My ranked record is now above the 50% mark as well. I also used a lot of tips from lurking through these forums, thanks for that guys.

I know I may sound like a n00btart, I’m relatively new to fighting games in general, so excuse my terminology if it is off.

Dorm/Tron/Haggar [or Sent] vote for S-Tier!

Tron’s B Assist is simply one of the best Anti Air Assits and helps Dorm to zone. Haggar’s Lariat is simply amazing to break pressure and reset the momentum [which is in Dorm’s favor as zoner]. On the other hand helps Dorm’s OTG assist to keep combos up with Tron and Haggar which both are damage beasts. Dorm works really good as either front or middle, and if switched out early is a beast with x-factor and chipping ppl with stalking flame. All in all the team works pretty good and due to the really high HP of Tron and Haggar and the average health of Dorm you sure can “sit out” some strategies and you’ll prolly outlife your opponent.
