Good partners for Dormammu?

I remember you saying you wanted to play that team before UMVC3 came out.

Glad it has some rad setups.

Good news for you and Zak Bennett… take this plus the Dorm infinite, Firebrand/Dorm are officially Marvel’s new BFF’s.

Any thoughts?
Task, Dorm, Mag

I’ve used Task for so long that I just feel comfortable with him, I can zone/run away and get in to do easy combos with good dhc’s. I also feel like his footsies are really good, i’ve learned his range and have a much easier time taking out some characters over using Mag or Doom. Only thing is I get kind of bored with the way Task plays and I really want a “gay” assist. Mag beam is pretty good, but was thinking of going back to doom missiles. So something like:

Dorm, Mag, Doom or Mag, Dorm, Doom
The first one is cool cuz i can rush down and mix up with mag assist or just zone like crazy with missiles. So I get to use both assists to their fullest. Only prob is some matchups suck to start off with Dorm  Also I dont really like Doom as anchor since I’m not 100% with him yet.

I just really want a good team that works with dorm and that I can still have fun with. I’ve gone through Firebrand, Mag, Doom, Trish and Task. Is there anyone else I should try out or just stick with Doom?

Edit: It’s also nice to have a longer assist that lets me use dark matter to extend combos instead of just going for flame carpet relaunch.

As for the Dorm/Mag/Doom dilemma:

Use both, depending on the matchup. I for one hate playing Mag vs Sent so I switch to Dorm against him. There’s really no problem if you switch between the two, both of them use the missiles assist very well. Plus, TAC combos galore :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah that’s true, Guess I just need more practice with Mag, to get him to the same level of comfort as task.

Normally I support this type of thinking, Im usually in favor of running sentinel second. But the issue imo is that sentinel gets next to nothing from dormammu’s assist to the point where he might aswell be playing by himself. Dark hole is by no means a bad assist, but it isn’t good enough to make sentinels bad match-ups better like say a hidden missiles or tatsu, whereas dorm gets so much from sent. Plus people win(consistently might I add) with sentinel on anchor so if he puts the time in Im sure he can make it work.

Personally Im thinking bout running dorm/sent/akuma. I figure sentinel will be more useful in the full screen game, covering dark spell’s and just giving dorm much needed horizontal power whereas akuma helps when the opponent gets too close or when Im trying to go in. I already found a cool set-up with tatsu where dorm goes cr.:l: :a2:(akuma) cr.:h: teleport. Its a really nice block string(once you get the hang of it) and it allows for a nice mix-up if its blocked but it combos if any part of it connects. I think this team might be the team for me, been running trish/sent/akuma for a while but it didn’t seem optimized for trish(the team i.e.) so now Im trying dorm, hopefully this works out better.

If I were to take out Cap in that team and replace it with Sentinel or someone else, who would you recommend, and what order?

To be clear, your question is actually: “Who would go well with Thor and Dante?”, right?

I think Thor does especially well with a horizontal projectile assist (not a beam). You have a lot of options. I’ve done pretty well with Thor/Deadpool/Arthur in the past.

I actually meant Bennet’s team, I don’t know why the Hell I said Cap.

So Firebrand/Dorm and who else? And what recommended order? Not wanting to play Ami like Zak, Haha

Sorry about the confusion.

I don’t think there is a perfect answer. I use Firebrand/Dormammu/Morrigan. On one hand, it means I kill anything I touch, and entire teams tend to die if I hit someone with Firebrand. On the other hand, I don’t have good assist support, and Morrigan is not good at making XF3 comebacks.

Tokiko uses Firebrand/Dormammu/Skrull. You get the Firebrand infinite snapback setup this way, but Dormammu has absolutely no support at all. Skrull is an extraordinary comeback character, though.

You could back them both with Hidden Missiles, which is one of Dormammu’s best assists and vicious for Firebrand, but then you have Doom anchor. Same argument for Sentinel, except Sentinel isn’t as good for Dormammu as Hidden Missiles is IMO.

Dr. Strange is kind of in the same camp as Doom, except you’re borderline guaranteed to kill at least one character in XF3 with him.

I don’t think there is a best answer, and that’s arguably a good thing. I’m utterly satisfied with my team because it lets my ToD anyone with Firebrand and Dormammu + infinite meter is a hilariously good time.

Just realized that Zak Bennet uses my Dorm color.

What assist do you guys use for Dormammu in second? I’m having a bit of difficulty for what assist to use; should I use an assist to get like Disruptor or Arrows? However if I do, the best I can do is ABC 123. If I use an OTG assist, that really limits Dormammu’s zoning capabilities and approaches just for more damage.

When using Dorm on point I usually use Spencer’s wire grapple for re-launch and some type of beam/projectile assist that can help both Dorm and Spencer get in.

Check the Ultimate Dormammu Thread for a list of assist capabilities with Dorm.

Shoutouts to Karst for that amazing thread.

Derp, I realized the shopping can work as a great way to get in and it leaves the opponent standing allowing me to do the Dark Matter Bnb. Forgive me if I spammed up the Dormammu thread.
Arigatooooo:china:

Hey sup new to dormamu im going to be running

Viper-burn kick,dormamu-liberation,strider-vajra

What do you guys think ive given it a quick spin in t mode and i like it fills all the gaps i felt were missing in the team, i skipped dark hole as it just wouldnt be useful for viper or strider and liberation is a nice vergil anti-derp other teleporters too lets viper confirm pretty nice. I like the thc which lets me get a pseudo ammy mixup and a decent punish for assists and dorms dhc’s do nice damage for my bnb’s but yeah tell me what you think or any nice synergy or issues you may notice!

How much should I be doing with Dormammu using Skrull’s Stone smite assist?

How do you guys feel about Dorm-dark hole on point, with IM-unibeam and Vergil-rapid slash as an anchor?

I think it is cool because you have a godlike beam assist for rushing and a great assist for zoning, it makes the team so versatile, it makes ironman look cool, and that is a hard thing to do nowdays.

I am testing a team with Dante-a/Doom-y/Vergil-y and i really love vergil rapid slash, because it makes the opponent go to full screen away even on block, and on hit you can chaotic flame and dhc to any of the sparda brothers to almost kill everyone, because of previos chip damage.

Your team loves pretty cool, although when i am playing dormammu i love to have a good horizontal and vertical assist, and well Jam Session and Rapid Slash fit the criteria very well.

And you would be asking: Why the hell are you using Liberation Assist? well it is because the %70 of time my opponent is going full screen because of rapid slash or is stopped by Jam Session when attempting to super jump and attack from the sky with a dive kick( wolverine this is for you), so i have like the whole day to build spells, and it makes the sparda brothers have a 1 ultra powerlful shot and building meter assist, killing all the cast with just one bar or sometimes with any, also liberation assist with no spells can improve very well dante’s and vergil resets if used right.

Didn’t someone make some great posts about Sentinel/Dormammu discoveries semi-recently? I can’t seem to find it. I’ve been thinking about running Sentinel again recently.

My recent thoughts:
How much is it worth to have no mix-ups on your next incoming character?

I’ve been thinking about it, and we all know that when you lose one character, against a good player, using a good team, there’s a very good chance that you’re about to lose another. It’s not often that you lose the third one just because you can X-Factor and get a “breathing moment” as that character comes in. The value of having that guaranteed second character is enormous. I realized how valuable this is to me when I previously posted about armored Hsien-ko, and how great it is to not worry about her dying right away. She also tends to kill a lot of characters because people aren’t careful enough - they’re too used to having the advantage on an incoming character.

I’m absolutely certain that having no mix-ups on my next incoming character is worth at least 3 bars to me. I know this because if I’m getting stomped, I’ll often use Morrigan’s Darkness Illusion, which has decent invulnerability, simply to guarantee Morrigan a safe “in”. Sometimes I’ll XF3 cancel it, sometimes I won’t. It’s just good to not have to deal with the insanity that often is mix-ups in this game.

Is it worth dedicating an entire character to this benefit? Maybe. Hsien-ko is just so-so, but it sure it nice knowing for a fact that I get to use both of my characters in the match. Sometimes I feel it’s worth including her just so I can be guaranteed to at least use two good characters.

To my knowledge, only three characters can be guaranteed safe while coming in:
Morrigan
Hsien-ko
Sentinel

I think one of the great things about Knives’ team is the order:
Spencer
Sentinel
Akuma

What a great team order! If Sentinel were anchoring, Akuma would get mixed up half the time and die, leaving only the outsourced machine to fight alone. Sentinel guarantees Knives gets to play his whole team, and Hyper Sentinel Force x Messatsu Gohado Ungyo is a pretty delicious bonus.

As I think about this, I wonder whether the following team is worth considering:
Sentinel (Sentinel Force)
Dormammu (Dark Hole)
Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer)

As we all know, it is worth a lot to get Morrigan and Dormammu on the screen safely. Both ChrisG and FChamp are willing to burn two bars of meter just to ensure that the slate is clean for their characters, and this is obviously more than just a preference, it’s an intermediary goal for them. So one thought I have is this: put Sentinel on point, and dance around while calling Dark Harmonizer. As soon as I get two bars, DHC into Dormammu. Every Sentinel to Dormammu DHC is viciously strong, and Morrigan even gets Soul Drains off of Hyper Sentinel Force x Astral Vision. With Dark Harmonizer, I’ll certainly have the meter necessary to do these things and be safe, and of course Sentinel Force is a great assist for anyone.

What do you all think?

I’m really concerned about starting Sentinel on point without a useful neutral assist against point characters who will be in your face at the start of the round. It’s a huge, huge risk. If he had 1+ million health, then I think it’s worth it.
