I think you’re planning on burning a lot of meter in those examples. I would be concerned about how Firebrand will handle dedicated zoning teams; Hawkeye/Hidden Missiles, for example. Purification could be useful if you want to zone with Firebrand.
For an update on my own team, I’m running Skrull or Akuma on point.
Thanks for the feedback - it may just lead me in a new direction. I may try putting Ammy & Dorm on separate teams after all. One of the most frustrating things with trying to make a Dorm team is that I feel like I’m handicapping my point character with his assist(s). Yet I’d rather not run Dorm on point until he has a few bars. Maybe I should just stop being so stubborn and be willing to compromise, but I really want Dorm to be the best interdimensional being he can be without making my point character suffer for it. Because if he/she can’t make really good use of Dark Hole/Purification, I’ll probably lose to a better-supported point character and then I’ll get stuck playing Dorm with less meter and only 1 assist. I think this is why I’m so drawn to having a really solid assist like Ammy’s in the anchor position in the first place. So I guess my new main objective is to find the character(s) that break Dark Hole and can build lots of meter. They get bonus points if they have good health, since that way I still make out okay on meter-building if they die, haha.
Oh ho, I know exactly what you mean. Just try running Dark Harmonizer. Then your point character doesn’t get any good assists to help him/her out at all, haha.
IMO, the characters that make the best use of Dark Hole have:
Standing overheads.
Command grabs.
Unblockables.
IMO, stay stubborn. Part of the fun of this game is the eternal search for a perfect team, and by perfect I mean both highly functional and to your tastes. This week I just picked up a point character I haven’t used since my first month of Vanilla, and I’m surprised at how well he is doing on my team just backed by Dark Hole or Dark Harmonizer.
I want everyone on this forum to post here on what they feel the best 5 point characters in this game are without assists. However, your opponent has full access to assists.
That means that you have to tell me what point character would function best against:
Hawkeye + Hidden Missiles
Wolverine + Tatsu Assist
Dante + EM Disruptor
Hulk + Sentinel Drones
Wesker + Vajra
Etcetera. All of these. What characters can best handle all of those excellent, strong combinations alone?
You can assume you have an abundance of meter, if that’s important.
Yes, this is for my team, which is:
??? / Dormammu / Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer).
The team order, and Dark Harmonizer, are not open to being changed, but I’m open to any of Dormammu’s assist options. I’m curious if people have answers I have not considered. Ideally, the character benefits Dormammu and Morrigan in some way in case the team order gets funked with, but that’s ideally, not necessarily.
Thanks in advance to anyone who puts some thought into this.
I’d say that if the character can make good use of meter, that’s a bonus. If the character makes it dangerous to call assists, then that certainly speaks to that character’s ability to flow alone.
You said you were experimenting with Akuma…have you considered Ryu? He has the bonus of 1) higher health (i.e. more survivability against zoning teams), 2) a DHC into Stalking Flare (Shinku Tatsu super), and 3) the ability to abuse a power-up hyper (that speeds up his assist too). I don’t know if he’s one of the top 5 without assists, but Chris G has had success with him as an anchor. And obviously the meter abuse + assist frying abilities of Akuma are still there.
I don’t think any unassisted character can stay in an advantageous position against every single one of those duos you posted Karst, but I’d say Magneto,Storm,Taskmaster, and Dante come closest.
Each of the four is flexible and can either zone or rush if need be. Magneto can abuse his gravity moves and also dash to super jump height and fly to create opportunities to call Morrigan. Meter keeps shockwave an option against aggressive rushdown and shockwave beats most of the assists you mentioned (blows up Vajra and clears the field of projectiles). Disruptor is still hella fast. He’d be my first choice by far. I use Storm in a similar fashion in a Morrigan team and it works rather well, with easier combos/abare compared to Magneto imo. Extra meter = easy punishes with Elemental Rage.
Taskmaster arrows are still good chip and shield skills keep him from feeling helpless when being rushed heavily. Dante is a jack-of-all-trades character who should be fine alone in most instances. Abuse Devil Trigger Mode and his silly lightning moves. Won’t really be able to take advantage of his teleport much without a horizontal assist though.
Edit: They all have useful assists and DHC options too. Would rank the assists as follows for Dorm and Morrigan: Jam Session > Disruptor > Horizontal Arrows > Whirlwind/Weasel Shot.
Anyone one here using Doom assist (Plasma Beam)? I know there are ways to get relaunch combos off it in the corner but what about midscreen? I’m just trying to find a more durable assist than Akuma tatsu that can get the job done
Have you tried using Dark Matter then calling the assist and teleport cancelling? You can follow this up in the corner once they hit the wall with ADDF + H then either Jump M or cr.M.
I think the combo below will work with most ranged assists/beams.
Nah I haven’t, I haven’t utilized that move enough inside combos compared to just catching people off guard. Thanks for the info I’ll definitely put it to use
So I think I’m going to roll with Dormammu-α / Dante-α / Dr. Doom-α for now and save Ammy for another team (Zero-β / Spencer-β / Amaterasu-β). Between those two I think I have all my favorites covered. Plus, there’s a lot more synergy than when I’m trying to fit two meter-abusers onto the same team, heh.
New fun theme based team i’ve been messing with for a couple days. Vergil (rapid slash), Morrigan ( harmonizer), Dormammu (Dark hole). I’ve just begun experimenting with it and its fun so far. I play Vergil on point because he can dish out damage, build meter and kill at will with it IF i feel the need to use any with him. Morrigan to feed her hungry demon boys and Dorm in the back for his gawd lock screen fill assist and game ending tricks with meter (and cuz he’s my worst character for now)
Anyone have any ideas or opinions on how this team should run? Possible synergy?
I wanna play nova/dorm/Wesker but I can’t find the synergy between nova and dorm. Im using dark hole as an assist but dhc wise I cant really get anything because nova ends his combos in the air and dorm doesn’t have a way to hit up there except for purification and his dark spells.
I think you should switch your team around 2 Dorm/Vergil/Morrigan. I feel Dorm builds better meter and dishes more meterless damage and can combo off his throws better then vergil. Vergil would be an optimal 2 because he can dhc out of dorm effectively plus since dorm builds meter better he would have 3 or so meter by the time he comes in which is great for him to kill charecters with. Morrigan’s assist is too important to the team which is why she needs to be anchor. Plus her level3 xfactor BS is rediculus.
