I was thinking of using Dorm / Strange (disks) / Vergil (rapid slash) I think you could do some nice cross up teleport tricks with Vergils full screen assist as well as using the disks to annoy.
And by having strange 2nd I can DHC to his counter super if I get into trouble with dorm.
This will not be completely true, the effect caused by the Rapid Slash is a the un-techable spin effect, it repels the target in a backwards upward arc (towards the direction Vergil came from). making it very very hard to follow up from a M. Mass Change. you would have to activate it near perfect timing to make a full combo, and the timing will change dramatically depending on the distance he has to travel. I have already played Vergil at _______ house. but I do agree that it is the assist of choice.
If anybody asks, My buddy got it from a friend, who got it from a friend, WHO GOT IT from a friend who works for an VG. magazine. (seriously I’m not making this shit up). simply put ______ needed more input on how the vanilla cast had been changed and our responses on the Core mechanical changes.
That’s disappointing to hear, I hoped that assist would be useful for that purpose rather than always having to use some kind of beam assist for support. I guess if Dr. Stranges disks assist activates quickly I could use that for teleport mixups and switch to the anti air / some invincibility dragon punch of Vergils. Could you tell me if this function as a decent “get off me” assist if it has invincible startup?
The more I think about it the less use I can see from Strange, Hawkeye might be better in that slot as he seems able to play a strong range game and build meter for Vergil.
Can I ask why you’d choose rapid slash for an assist? If you can’t mix people up with it and it doesn’t have any invincibility what would you use it for?
Can you confirm, as GomuGomu said, that c.L chains to c.H?
That’s really my only Dormammu question. He has been explored pretty thoroughly I feel, unless you have some gems of wisdom to drop on us.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Firebrand, especially his synergy with Dormammu, and what you found there. Most of my questions are about Firebrand and Morrigan. So, maybe, if you’re so willing, you can indulge me on that end, and then I can pick your brain for other stuff. Did you get to try Chaotic Flame -> Luminous Body -> Bon Voyage?
Edit: Actually Moo, if you would be so kind, I could provide my full list of questions.
If you are serious about using this assist I would suggest practicing with Dead Pool’s Quick Work Assist. it is the same mechanic and near same trajectory ( Rapid Slash’s is about 2 feet higher allowing for more juggle time but also pushing them further away the later you respond)
In short, No assist is safe. I attempted every new characters assist to see if any of them were GTFO for this simple fact that against Wesker’s, Dante’s, Spencer’s and Phoenix’s, I always end up in a corner. NONE are invincible on start up. but almost every one of the melee assist do have invincibility frames. sometimes they saved and other times they became HB’s.
I am not saying that Rapid Slash is bad but The Strange M Disks did work amazingly as a cross up, but its start up makes it easy to see coming, even if Dr Strange is off screen you can see the disks coming, which almost always had the enemy super jump ( Super jump for some reason screws with the assist and no longer tracks properly. Hawkeye’s Assist is insanely fast, and very hard to punish. I only used it once and dropped it fast for his anti air assist ( which is too good and needs to be nerfed.) as it has a sexy delay, allows for easy cross up and has a small stun and a medium knock back making the M. Mass Change fully combo-able ( simply put an anti air that works as a cross up is insanely good).
As I said earlier in this post, if you practice with the timing of Dead Pool’s Quick Work assist, you can understand the delay required for the follow up, there is a surprising delay from which Vergil passes through the enemy and from when the hit connects. I attempted thsi assist/cross over for about an hour straight to see fi I could get it and I was able to figure the trick out (and I’m pretty damn good at execution), once you see Vergil pass the enemy you do the M. Mass Change and make absolutely sure you hit j.S right as you come out of the animation.
Overall
I noticed near to no hitstun or damage scaling from it (mainly why I love it), Has 90% invincibility frames ( once he starts dashing they start), has the Untechable Spin Property ( only 2 assist that I know of have it) and covers full ground ( if I mass chane too early he will go even further.)
Dear Dormammu lovers and fanatics, this is the single most sexy and helpful buff to Dormammu’s melee game, c.L DOES INDEED 100% chain into c.H. BUT there is some odd effect though if you delay the c.L to c.H they cannot be hit confirmed into launcher, even though the c.L > c.H is a combo. I found myself wanting to c.M and switch to c.H and within that 0.2 seconds of thinking about doing c.H I lost my opportunity to get the hit confirm.
I played with Firebrand for a solid hour and attempted many DHC tricks,( I though that the general play style of Firebrand was though to get used to with only a hour) he plays very very unique, I found myself getting stuck in flight mode and he maneuvers with command inputs. I think he will take some time just to get used to his flight mode as it is nothing like anyone else’s flightmode. I wish I was better with him because he has so much mobility and so many amazing trap setups that I wanted to try, but I constantly found my self getting confused. for example certain attacks auto put you in flight mode ( which is backwards for me), other attacks which seemed like they should switched to flight didn’t. Overall, with time invested he will be a very strong addition to anyone’s team.
I didn’t play Morrigan or see any of the others play her either
I think I did attempts this once or twice, I believe the combo ended shortly about the relaunch and was only useful for getting Firebrand in safely. you may have a better setup then what I was using. I did simple BnB ending in CF DHC’d then continued. I felt like It would of been more but the new stun decay is not helping DHC combos.
you sir are correct, the moment Dorm pulls his hand back you can do what every you want, for some reason it feels like it starts faster too (might of just imagined it, but the recovers is manageable now)
I’m going to PM you my Firebrand questions…hahaha.
Thanks for the other info - all good stuff! The Chaotic Flame -> Luminous Body is without Dormammu doing a combo. I was thinking of using it as a way to capitalize off of Chaotic Flame punishes, and getting more than just a Chaotic Flame’s worth of damage.
I’m pretty sure that if It was pure starter then it would be absolutely fine.
He is very hard to use IMO, he has alot of tricks but they don’t feel natural to use. for example, he doesn’t have a stock/standard air dash, Flight mode but be on and you have to do teh command input OR you have to use is activate flight mode forawrd comand which feels odd to me.
Strange is very hard I played him at NYCC, and his movement are very slow. But, what I do like is his traps/setups I guess I going to be in the lab with Strange for a long time. But does he play like flame head dark lord Dorm lol, with the spells and the explosive act as OTG.
I too attempted Strange recently, but every time I tried to set up traps I was being blasted with anti-air or anti-air assists. I was hoping that I could call assists while strange was in flight mode but its not an option. I would also of likes the holocrons to be faster on startup, there recovery is fine.
Strange is nothign like our sexy “Flame Head Dark Lord Dorm”, dorm has far more control of space, but everything Dorm has as a super Strange has as a special and Visa Versa. Personaly I believe Dorm got the better Hypers. Stranges combos look nice but are hard to continue, he also does not get in close very well due to the lack of air dashing, I might use Strange as a keep away anchor as hit melee sucks balls unless you do 3 yellow cubes to crumple and wave in. Eye of Agomatto is SLOW in every aspect, I could not use it( and I tried a shit ton of different ways) for a 10 hit projectile it has super low durability. a dark hole will destroy it and have 1 hit left.
Strange will heavily focused on his assist just like Dormammu is as they both have large opening and are not safe on almost any special they do.
I see I might try Strange too, but if shit hits the fan I’m moving to Firebrand or Ghost Rider. Firebrand for the sweeper of team kinda like wolverine or Ghost Rider a more heavy keep away with a lot of options.
Hi guys, I’m basically completely new to MvC series and thus UMvC3, and I’m trying to create a team - I’m thinking of Trish [Peekaboo]/Dorm [Dark Hole]/Spencer [not sure] since all 3 of these characters seemed to have interesting playstyles on the videos I’ve seen. What I’d like to know is [since I’m not very in touch with the nuances and intricacies with each character] is
Would this team even mesh well together? If so, is the order/assists okay, or should these be changed for better flow within the team?
What assist would be best selected for Spencer?
Is there a glaring hole that will just get blown up in this team?
i dont know trish very well so i cant answer #1 competently. #2) depends on team order and what you want him for. his wire grapple slant shot is a decent anti air and setup tool but i use wire grapple straight show with my dorm team (i point dorm though) because you can use it to relaunch after an air series (air series xx assist xx dash forward xx flame carpet xx S [followups]) i used to use armor piercer but that only extends combos in the corner while wire grapple can do mid-screen (you can also do very limited mixup stuff with teleports…) #3) dont know, im not the best person to answer this…
I was talking about Shum, Dorm and Strange in the D.R Strange thread; hope this can be of some assistance here;
Ive been playing that team online only for the last three days and I can tell you the synergy is amazing with that team. I was using Shuma (Mystic Ray) on point, Dorm in the middle (Dark Hole) and Strange (EoA) as anchor. I usually rush down with Shuma and play zone with Dorm. Strange can do either of the two. After several matches I decided to switch up the assists. Gave Dorm purification and Strange (BoB). Even though Bolts of Balarrak are slow, They hit twice and if I start it up while using an Aerial Mystic Smash with Shuma to get in / close, the opponent can move. Shuma and Dorm always had great synergy (former team was Doom, Shuma Dorm) but Dr. Strange make it even better. Now that I think about it, if your serious of playing this team. Strange (EoA) should be point, Shuma (MR) in the middle and Dorm (DH) as anchor. I say this because of when I played online, people would zone out shuma when he was on point and Dorms assists cant do anything to help out and Dr. Strange’s DoD and BoB, you have to be tricky to use them.
I then used Dorm on point, shuma then Strange (that was earlier today). Where as Shumas assist help out Dorm, Strange was just sitting in the back till I use EoA as a combo extender or chip. Now at work thinking about it. IF running with this team Strange HAS to be on point. They wanna zone you out? DoD with Shuma’s Mystic Ray. Or howabout Medium/Heavy sword with MR? If the beams are too fast. Counter hyper. They try to get close. Illusion (Back + heavy) with Purification assist. Yeah. I think Strange on point with Shuma in the middle and Dorm on anchor is the best way to go with this team.
How often could I live the dream of a Dark Hole-covered Ghost Rider’s Penance Stare into Spirit of Vengeance+Chaotic Flame with only two characters? And is it really “the” dream in terms of damage output?
Might help me decided between Ghost Rider and Nemesis for center in Viper/x/Dormammu
