Godzilla: King of the Monsters May 2019.Trailer out!

pretty entertaining movie. waaaaayyyyy better than that one with jean reno

Smdh…

Yknow he wasn’t referring to soda right??

Going to watch tonite. Going in with low expectations so I’ll prob enjoy it a lot more

I want to watch it tonight very badly however many of my friends won’t get off of work until late tonight, while another won’t get off of work until 11pm, so it’ll be too late. I’m so tempted to just go w/ a few and watch it, but I’ll refrain from doing so just so we can all go to the theaters tomorrow in a huge pack.

All I know is, our theater is going to have get ready for a pack of 20+ Asians. This is going to get real. I can’t wait, ALL of the Reviews are so good, so I’m super, super, Super Hopeful. This month has been amazing, I get my Birthday, Godzilla 2014, then next week it’ll be what? X-Men & for me the far more anticipate Street Fighter Assassin’s Fist…UNBELIEVABLE MONTH!

Gotta love it, I cannot WAIT to see Godzilla.

Just came back from seeing this and wish I could just get my money back. The last half hour or so was the only part worth seeing.

[details=Spoiler]

How you gonna have your title character have the least amount of screen time out of everything else in the movie? Everything in between the beginning and final fight had me like “I thought I was watching a Godzilla movie?”

Even when they were all on the sub looking at monitors going “Where’s Godzilla?” everyone in the theater let out a chuckle. I’m not even calling it a bad movie, just a bad Godzilla movie save for the climax. I came for Godzilla and got all this disaster movie shit that Godzilla was just basically a supporting character for. Oncee Bryan Cranston’s character died the movie got really really annoying for me and felt forced.

Just got back now.

Not the OMGBBQ#1 thing I’ve ever seen, but got damn was it good.

[details=Spoiler]I enjoyed the look of Godzilla. He didn’t look like a dude in a rubber dino suit, he looked like he spends his free time doing pushups and pullups on Monster Island. Fucker was HUGE. Even the way he fought was so similar to older Godzilla movies, yet new all at once. The tail swat, the way he would prepare his breath, the choke grab combo’d into bite, the finisher at the end. All amazing. Felt like a combo of a wild animal AND a human, fighting in one beastly body. I actually thought there was a chance he was dead at the end, and was waiting for some scene with an egg or something

I laughed at how many times they teased the audience. I kinda think they overdid it a little, but kudo’s for trying it. The almost nuclear breath where he gets double teamed when he was about to reveal his ability to breathe fire, the numerous cutaways of fight scenes, all hilarious. Although the first time they did it, when he FIRST shows up, I thought was handled poorly. I get cutting away to the kid watching on TV, I don’t get not explaining the outcome of that fight. You just see them fighting, then the other Muto is gone again and going to get Muto pussy.

Serizawa seemed to be thrown in to explain that people know about giant monsters already, and to appease the Japanese.

I marked HARD for the nod to Mothra.[/details]

Didn’t stay for the credits, was there an after credit scene?

edit: it’s being reported that select countries in Asia are showing an end credit scene featuring:

Spoiler

Mothra commanding an army of MUTO’s, and then it flies high and creates a hurricane with it’s wings.

[details=Spoiler] Godzilla choke slamming expecting mother MUTO had to be my favorite part of any fight in this movie, bitch getting in his face roaring some bullshit and got put down.
I was kind of eh about the MUTO designs, probably like other people because they looked like Cloverfield monster, but I think they did a solid job with them. Was anyone else like “oh shit” when they finally showed the male and female next to each other and the latter was like triple the size? [/details]

I don’t think I’ve ever come out of a movie wanting a sequel so soon…Needs to be a Kaiju mash-up, or vs. King Ghidorah.
I think there might have been a bit too much focus on the actual people in the movie, but I wasn’t too bothered by it.

Just got back, my reaction:

edit #1: just wanted to add that I thought that the audio in this movie was stellar. The way Godzilla would roar, and it would just taper off…there were a few scenes that were so loud I swear I saw people in the theatre get knocked the fuck back.

edit #2: DAT BREATH:

I’m up in the air about it. It was pretty badass looking, but I still prefer his pure beam of laser awesomeness. However, it was more like the original Godzilla’s breath, so I kinda liked that approach as well. Hopefully that shit has more power levels than a Kamehameha.

I want a Godzilla body pillow.

I also think Gigan as created by humans to counter Godzilla would make a great sequel monster. Especially if there is a third monster for him to fight before Godzilla comes on the scene.

It’s almost a guarantee at this point that Mothra is next. Ghidora would be a good next villain after that.

eww fuck eat a dick no

I can see Mothra and maybe even something else for the second and we get king ghidora in the final movie. I’m one of the few who doesn’t want to see mecha godzilla.

To be honest…I don’t want it to be Mothra. I really feel that Mothra just isn’t as intimidating simply because it can’t fight Godzilla on the ground, but is more of an airborne kaiju. However, King Ghidorah is the Kaiju that should appear in the 2nd movie because he is simply the most Imposing Monster that Godzilla usually has to go up against. Not to mention seeing a 3 Headed Golden Dragon with Wings is more Epic and threatening then a flying…well…moth like creature.

All those are wrong, but Hulk.
Hulk has done some retarded shit like almost break the earth in half by stomping his feet.

Saw it again today with my friends.

The only complaint I have about this movie:

[details=Spoiler]How fucking lax the characters are with everything aside from the Doctor, Bryan Cranston’s character, and the soldiers toward the end.
I mean shit, no one seemed to have any urgency about them until the bridge and San Fran scenes. You’d expect most places to be under lockdown when it is widely broadcasted that there are at least three giant highly destruction, almost indestructible monsters fucking up cities across America with paths undeterminable by the common civilian, as in they could appear anywhere as far as the average Joe could know.

Not even just the civilians, I think Ford’s reaction to his father’s death was a little too muted. Bryan’s character’s reaction in the opening felt legit and intense, unlike his son’s later on.[/details]

Also to those complaining about Godzilla’s apex-ness

Spoiler
  1. He didn’t really have a chance to eat them right away, seeing as how he collapsed literally seconds after defeating them.
  2. He could have eaten some of their rotting corpses before he departed into the sea, we weren’t given a time frame between his awakening and departure.
Spoiler

She was pregnant before the male gave her the nuke, they straight up zoomed in on her belly during the EOD train bridge scene, she walks over top of the bridge and her belly hangs down in front of the camera filled with glowing orange eggs.

Also, nothing against Mothra, but she would make for a boring movie with boring fights.

She should get bodied quite easily by Godzilla, and is too delicate to really stand a chance.

If they wanted a more armored and terrifying Mothra, then they’d basically just be making Megaguirus.

Using her would be one of the dumbest choices they could make.

The likes of Destroyah, King Ghidorah(if you don’t go in too deep about the Aliens who sent him, and just have him be an invader from space with his motives partially explained for the sake of plot), and Biollante who I feel would be fucking awesome, but would need some other monsters in her film to kind of add to it, since she’s just a giant immobile plant lizard.

I’m honestly very surprised at the reaction this movie is getting. I was expecting to come home and find this thread in an uproar. lol

Reptar would at least give Godzilla someone to fight at his scale.

Hulk would get strong enough in time. As powerful as he is he need some prep time to get to that planet cracking level. It doesn’t just come out of no where. Godzilla will crush him and prevent him from moving and make Hulk all sleepy.

But it looks like some dumb woman wrote this list.

We just had a flying monster though guys. Why spend millions again to let that be the main monster? It would just have to be a third monster to counteract that. It can’t just be Mothra. Godzilla has such a solid rogues gallery (the best besides Batman and Spiderman) though that pretty much anything will be bad ass. I’d like to see a battle take place in a desert though. Or some other remote location.

Was I the only on generally disappointed with the MUTO? Not a memorable design at all. Worse than the Kaiju in PacRim. They weren’t bad but the colors and designs weren’t nearly as memorable as stuff that had come before. Heck MUTO barely resembled anything. I didn’t really feel that earthly connection.

Who is going to buy that big ass 2ft Godzills toy? I’ve always wanted one.

You forget Hulk has a healing factor that makes Wolverine blush, and even when Hulk’s not all that angry he’s still insanely fucking strong, and insanely fucking durable to where just getting stomped on wont put him down for the count.

Mothra is one of the few monsters who actually can take on Godzilla successfully. Depending on how they go with Mothra, it could be amazing. I love Godzilla, but it becomes hard to fight back versus a hurricane.

Mecha Godzilla would have to be done right. Maybe even made into a hero. I liked the approach the cartoon did (even though I had the idea first :P). Where they just made a sort of Cyber Godzilla out of the remains of a dead Godzilla.

I also figure he bit the shit out of the two of them enough to get a meal and a half. Hell, I always assumed Godzilla didn’t need to eat. He just kills shit for shits and giggles. Ultimate predator. If he wants to kill you, he goes and does it.

Yeah it would be boring watching Mothra web throw Godzilla all over New York. Or essentially force pushing him into buildings, with hurricane force winds from wings. Or dropping him from outer space.

Really? Still got Anguirus and Rodan and King Caesar out there :stuck_out_tongue:

Can’t do Destroyah without Serizawa making the Oxygen Destroyer to kill Godzilla. Ghidorah they’ve said they want to do, but you can’t just go from “hey we just discovered gigantic fucking monsters exists and there is little we can do about it” to “hey giant monsters can fly in from outer space at any time to challenge our giant monsters to the death”. People would be committing mass suicide. I don’t know if I would do the aliens angle right away. You’d eventually have to though, to allow for Gigan.

Gareth Edwards had stated he wanted to visit the idea of Monster Island, as well. I don’t really want the series to become people panicking when a kaiju shows up, then waiting to see Godzilla swimming up to fuck it up. Every single movie. Wouldn’t mind seeing SEVERAL monsters in the next movie, to be honest.

lol yeah, Hulk fights actual Gods, and presses mountains. I love Godzilla to death, but Hulk would just toss him into the sun or something ridiculous like that.

Interestingly enough, the Cloverfield monster was supposed to be the baby of it’s species. Momma is still out there.

Was really freaking disappointed brosephs. Was looking forward to this as much as you all were, grew up on Godzilla.

My thoughts:

[details=Spoiler] Just got back from it

I’m a big Godzilla fan, and I was very disappointed

4/10

Not enough fighting. Throughout the entire 2+hour long movie, combined had about 3 minutes of Godzilla fighting. Those 3 minutes were COMPLETELY awesome though

Would have really liked it if they threw in a remix of the original Godzilla theme, but they didn’t

Really disappointed, considering Godzilla was completely badass in this one

Will need to watch Godzilla vs Destroyah or Godzilla: Final Wars again, to cleanse my brain of this [/details]

Saw it. Loved it. Would watch it again (in IMAX 3D since I missed the chance to do so today).

As for the movie itself.

[details=Spoiler]I really liked how both the film and the people within in treated the kaijus mostly as natural disasters. While there were attempts to stop it, the focus was more on getting everyone the fuck out.

On a related note, with mistakes like getting the buses stuck on the bridge and firing and hitting the bridge, I get the feeling that FEMA and the government are more to blame for any massive loss of life incurred.[/details]
