hope none of you assholes post spoilers with no spoiler tag here tomorrow.
Iâm avoiding this thread until I see the movie because SRK is pretty fucking bad about spoiler tags. Itâs like everyone here are children.
Bury the post so deep that it wonât be seen.
Two hours after the show and my brain is still trying to process the awesomeness of what I just watchedâŚ
The negativity surrounding this movie is so overblown. Movie was awesome.
[details=Spoiler] The movie plays up Godzilla like Jaws in that its a slow burn till you get to see him fully realized. I was fine with this but I know some people that hated it because they wanted lots of action ALA Pacific Rim.
Kinda didnât see Walter White dying early coming. Quicksilver/Scarlett Witch did their jobs decently enough. The plot was pretty straightforward. Gonna be interesting how they move forward with this. How can you introduce more monsters and such without it becoming cheesy?[/details]
I was definitely expecting a little more action between the monsters, but what was there was on par with Pacific Rim if not better so in the end it didnât matter.
The thing about the constant focus on humans in Godzilla is that it always keeps the viewer aware of the massiveness of the kaijiu, as opposed to Pacific Rim where the constant âzoomed outâ views of the action gave you a nice overview, but also resulted in a more âdisconnectedâ perspective of the size of the kaijiu. Godzilla was as much a disaster flick as it was a kaijiu movie. Different approaches, and both reached their different desired results very effectively.
Might be the best Godzilla flick Iâve seen ever
3/3 on seeing nothing but win this year (Cap 2, Raid 2, this)
When Ken WataEngrish first announced Godzillaâs name I was expecting ANIME BACKGROUND! but nonetheless. Loved how they showed only the highlights on the news between Godzilla and the male MUTO in their first encounter. I laughed for a good minute after that
When the kid saw that fight on tv, he reacted kinda like how a kid would be. Just in amazement at monsters fighting. Loved the âKing of the Monstersâ reference at the end too.
[details=Spoiler]Just got back from seeing it. Itâs an entertaining movie. I was kind of annoyed at the cutaways from the action.
The casting and was boring and the acting was nothing to write home about. Also is Godzilla was supposed to be an apex predator, why didnât he eat either of the MUDOs? [/details]
Totally, it was like every Japanese person in my city came out of the woodwork for Godzilla.
Shit was hype:
-Godzilla? Shoulda been called âMUTOâ as they had more screen time and focus than both G or the humans. Which I donât mind, because the MUTO are awesome. At the very least âGodzilla vs The MUTOâ or something.
-I expected Bryan to be the main character, iâm actually really happy that he wasnât.
-I like how they only explain the immediate origin of the MUTOs, much better than spending precious time explaining some bullshit that would be stupid to the point of taking you out of the movie a bit, which Pacific Rim did. I honestly think the movie would have been better without the whole hive-mind thing or the Alien world reveal. Should have just been âOh no, monsters are coming out of a giant inter-dimensional rift, lets kill them and try to blow it upâ and not âOh no these monsters are all actually generic clones, not unique and awesome creatures with history or noteworthy past battles, controlled by some hyper-intelligent creatures from another world, which we need to nuke by perfect sneaking into their portalâ.
-I like how some of the battles were seen indirectly, maybe too many of them, but it was still a very cool way to do things, and really put things to scale.
-The fact that the main character went to the exact place the MUTO was going(Hawaii) kind of bothered me, it was too stupid a coincidence IMO.
-I like the level of intelligence the Kaiju display in this movie, while the extent was never revealed(which it should never be. Again, a fault of Pacific Rim) you could obviously see they were smart enough to coordinate attacks and strategy, especially the MUTO working in unison to stomp Godzillaâs ass.
-I really love the use sexual dimorphism and mating interaction between the MUTO(and even the Big Mama MUTOâs reaction to the destruction of her eggs, her cry was very distinct and chilling). They could have easily went the uninspired route and just had them both look exactly the same, but they went the extra route, which I feel makes the pair more memorable.
-The Hiroshima reference scene was too stupid for me to accept, and itâs not because itâs offensive, because it didnât offend me, it was just too unbelievable for me to believe. I could believe them covering up their attacks on Godzilla as nuclear tests, but not the bombing of Japan. Shit was just silly.
-I like the mechanicalness of the MUTO, their movement, behavior, and appearance show it slightly. The death of the male MUTO specifically, as he straight up power-down, noise and all.
-Fuck them, I really thought Godzilla died, the seagulls and the creative use of multicolored sand and dirt really made him looks like he was rotting. Glad he walked off into the ocean at the end, that is the only way the movie could have ended.
-I like that Godzillaâs atomic breathe was a flame and not a laser.
-Holy shit was that final battle badass, the climax, man, force-fed atomic breathe, so awesome.
That climax battle, man,
Had the back of the seat in front of me like
You know what, itâs funnyâŚ
That is EXACTLY how someone coming out of a state of abject terror feels; they donât entirely recall why they were in that
state because they were panicking just that badly.
Similar idea, here, so, job well done, Big G?
Oâne kind-of âcomplaintâ I have, [details=Spoiler]The MUTOsâ designs reminded my too much of Otachi and Clover. I feel like weâve seen that bat/walking on nubs design too much lately.[/details]
Gah dammit, I want to see this movie so bad right now. Sunday so damn far away.
[details=Spoiler]
That part reminded me off the undead dragon in Dark Souls.[/details]
IMAX 3D Godzirra roar shut the theater down.
IMAX 3D highly recommended
Just got back.
The audio in IMAX was good.
However, not only is it post-processing 3D (so it looks like green screen), but frankly I just didnât see the benefit in this one. Comparing it to Pacific Rim - there was a weight associated with PR that the 3D really added to, here it doesnât do much. If you have a âregularâ IMAX - just do thatâŚ3D just felt wasted on this one.
No after credit scene eitherâŚ
On to the juicy - spoiler stuffâŚ
Barely spoilers & review firstâŚ
I thought it was âOKâ. The build up was good and I didnât have a real gripe with the actual âlackâ of kaiju interaction. Iâm not a fan of Godzillaâs proportions, he had a linebacker neck. The overall plot was OK - it didnât get in the way of why you were there, but the reactions of the cast to what was going on, only seemed believable by those @ ground zero for events. Despite having credible actors - while none of them were bad, it felt like âfunctionalâ acting more than anything else. No one stole the show. Fortunately, the only campy part was the Godzilla name reveal. MUTOs design was a bit âughâ, it felt like they took cloverfield, and mixed itâs genes with a cockroachâŚthey felt too âtoy likeâ and not organic enough. Special effects for the most part were outstanding, you never felt as though Godzilla wasnât realâŚI canât say that about the Mutos, but that had more to do with their âgeneric feelingâ design than anything else.
I liked the âoriginâ of Godzilla and the Mutos - I think that was very well handled. And WHY were people bucking of shots like it would matter. Under the circumstances, I would travel as LIGHT as possible - no armor you wear or gun you can carry is going to do anything to either Kaiju type.
Now on to the actual âspoilersâ
[details=Spoiler]I didnât expect the early death and the nature of the main character. I just donât like how the main character just always found himself in the middle of everything. Ninja couldnât catch a break like the folks in Cloverfield. When they got the disc early on though I had to yell out âWow - Zip Drives?!?â.
Atomic breath finisher was crazyâŚstand out moment in the movie, despite Godzilla getting stomped the f#ck out.
King of MonstersâŚ
The whole âancient creature who feed off radiationâ angle will work well for future kaijus. What I donât get is if Godzilla is one of those creatures, shouldnât he have at least eaten the kaiju after killing them? He was âhuntingâ them, ol Brock Sampson ass reptile. Opening up with a choke slam was dope too.
Shot out to NYC & DC not being destroyed for once.
I still donât get when the female got pregnant. Like the male muto gave her a rocket, and some how sheâs gestating eggs.
[/details]
Yea Godzilla birdfood laser was the best kill of all time. Shit reminded me of that Dead Space vomit death.
Yeah the 3D was fucking shit for this film. You know the 3D is bad when the pre-film trailers have better 3D.
