By your standards we should hate Ricky, Juicebox Abel, Mike Ross, Mike Watson(well… a lotta people already dislike him), Duc Do and practically every other pro that wins a high pressure game.
ALMOST EVERY PRO HAS DONE IT.
Everybody gets their panties in a bunch when he gets in Mike’s face a little bit but nobody takes time to understand that it’s all in good fun. More importantly, Justin was the one that initiated the handshake afterwards.
I dont see whats the point here. ppl are allowed to hate on who they want. ppl asked for an explanation on why they dont like justin and the answer was given, just not accepted. People have a reason they hate on him, whether or not it’s a GOOD reason is not the point. jeez.
Eh, I guess since the game is so well attended to in terms of records of both players and their appearance people are expecting a higher bar of sportsmanship at official events.
I don’t have any problem with him whatsoever but I’m afraid that from an objective standpoint the guy just isn’t much of a looker. That kind of thing is more important than you may think when it comes to public perception. People be shallow yo.
people are being retarded, nobody hates justin wong, we just wanna see the underdog beat the people we know who are the best. americans just want a surprise or something to talk about, if justin keeps winning its gonna be “the same ol shit” over and over. we just want someone new to watch.
you guys are blowing it way out of proportion, and its funny to see canadians have their say in what us americans do. you guys need to stfu
I don’t like Marn for more personal reasons. In general he’s very dishonest.
Marn actually came from the SF same community I’m from (though I mainly played Street Fighter against his older brother before Marn really got in the scene).
My problem with Marn is he doesn’t honor bets he makes. He actually has a really bad gambling habit and racked up a lot of debts becoming a real serious issue. To this day, I’m not 100% sure how it was resolved though I’m pretty sure he was never able to pay off those debts.
Fast forward a few years later, Marn and JWong are hanging around in our city and they make a bet with two of my friends one night. The bet is $500 per person though the specifics I won’t go into.
Marn and Justin lose the bet but avoid talking to my friends about it. This was about 2-3 years ago.
When I tracked down Marn at last year’s EVO he said he’d pay but never ended up doing it.
When I happened across Marn at EVO this year, I made mention of the obligation he had to pay off the bet he’d lost. He told me he didn’t have any money and explained that he didn’t get paid by ESWC. Next thing I know, the next day I hear that Marn is at the blackjack tables gambling.
This pretty much tips the scales for me.
I’m really tempted to let his family know that he’s gotten back in to the business of racking up gambling debts again. I’m sure they will be thrilled having had to deal with this crisis once before.
To all those saying we only want to see an underdog win when it comes to Justin Wong…you be surprised on the haters out there. There are actual people that hate justin wong because of his looks or think he is a braggart at the SFIV National showing…or whatever. There are actual haters and frankly i find it hilarious since i don’t think many of them actually play Wong.
Nobody hates Justin Wong? Really? I don’t know which internet you get, but he’s public enemy number one. The general noob public hate him. Granted, nobody cares about the opinion of the general noob public, but it’s still the truth.
Whoa, so hating somebody for a bad reason is okay? That has got to be one of the most bat shit retarded things I’ve ever heard. Then again I’m an adult and feel that there should be no unwarranted animosity amongst fellow people. Especially when you’ve never met the person. That is straight up highschool/middle school shit.
EVO 2010 was awesome, very smoothly run, some commentary could be improved but overall an amazing success…especially when you see the origins.
The fighting game community is amazing in the US and so many people put in so much time to make it all happen.
JUSTIN: Never met the guy, I personally like to see diversity when it comes to winning and used to get salty hearing about Justin winning. The one thing people forget is, when it comes to a match, it is down one person vs one other person at the time. Justin steps up and gets it done. Some people in America always have an axe to grind and so they just need to take pot shots at someone. Like poor people hating rich people. Once you get comfortable in your own space, maybe you won’t care. Maybe you will continue to hate. I think life’s too short to continue expend energy on the hate. If some used that same energy to focus on improving their game, maybe they might get better. Though some just can’t improve and only have the hate to fall back on. That’s their problem. I’m glad America has a world class player in Justin Wong. I also believe the American has a vast pool of talent and look forward to seeing it being repped at the EVO/GodsGarden Japan event.
Negativity is too trendy in America. I’m looking forward to see high level matches and I wish the players all the best.
