So basically from what i gather, my only options are zoning him coupled with an assist to help me do so lol. Btw I can’t AA MH him, pipe comes out too fast to land a or :l: MH, and :h: doesn’t have enough range to rely on it.
Also, I can’t believe lariat beat out an already activated mighty punish AND iron avenger. This move is not to be messed with, it was my first experience facing it.
put a full screen distance between you and spam mighty spark, when they SJ just SJ forward + UF airdash and MH. This works wonders against a lot of ppl but should be even more effective against hagger because of how weak he is against zoning and his lack of air mobility.
I’m in the lab with Thor right now, he’s always been a character I wanted to put in my casual sets. Many people teem to shy away from Thor because of how slow he is. I don’t get this, I can move around with Thor pretty good with dash cancel. I’m getting some good combos down around 600k one meter, but torn as far as building a team around him. It seems to me that Thor would greatly benefit from a lockdown assist.
I’ve seen people go along Thor/Ammy combinations, which I like but I’m not really good with Ammy like that. Dorm I’m familiar with though, and Purification works really well especially in the corner I’ve seen more people going with this combo. Thought about Trish as well, her peekaboo traps can help Thor as well as controlling space when she comes in. She’s also a good character to TAC into.
You remind me a’ me about three weeks ago. Yeah, about all of those are some good combinations for Thor. All an’ all, I gotta say do some experimenting around with all of those characters and see which one fits your style best and stick with it. Then after you’re comfortable, move onto another combination. I personally shied away from Ammy too, because I wasn’t that good with her, but recently I gave her another go, and it works out well. Cold Star’s a great assist for Thor, and after your standard BnB into Mighty Tornado a good DHC into Okami Shuffle does some good. As for Dorm, Purification works as a good assist with Thor in the corner, but outside of it, not so much. I’ve personally moved onto Dark Hole because it also gives a good lock down, and I find that more useful than an OTG combo extender.
i think that ppl underestimate dorm’s purification assist, my main team is thor / ammy / dormammu and purification helps a lot with this team. In the corner it can be used for extending combos or resets and its great for zoning, also eventhough it wont lead to anything on hit i personally dont think there’s that much difference between purification and dark hole on block so it can be used for lockdown as well.
But when it comes to lockdown cold star is my favorite assist by far.
I don’t because you beat me like 100 times with that team on psn :o
With that said, it was more or less the fact that I did not understand the Thor matchup because I haven’t fought many Thor’s at all. To be honest, you gave me some inspiration in learning Thor haha. I never tried using Dark Hole assist with Thor but I do prefer purification right now, and it still seems to work well with Trish controlling the screen. The dog is a lost cause, each time I use ammy she dies waaay to quick and I just get bodied. One day I’ll go back into the lab with her and try again, but right now I’m just smh.
And ya purification is pretty awesome, i like having a decent zoning game with thor because there are certain characters that you just dont want to get too close to you. Indows is a great spiderman player on PSN and im just so helpless when he’s rushing down with spidey while backed up with sent drones. Ive only been able to win against him like once or twice when i kept spiderman out using mighty spark + purification, took out a good chunk of his life and eventually managed to land a hit to take out spiderman.
So been feeling around characters for while looking for a point for my storm/ammy team and Im considering thor, I love having a high health character on point for the team and no one has higher health than thor(for now at least). But I don’t really see the synergy between storm and thor other than the soon to be removed dhc glitch, any got any ideas? I figure thor and ammy have some nice synergy with ammy being able to combo of a successful mighty punish(even when the dhc glitch gets removed she should still be able to get nice damage) but other than assisting his zoning and allowing storm to elemental rage punish beam hypers with the mighty punish trick mike ross showed in his video I can’t think of any way thor and storm help each other out.
With thor to storm you can do a 3 meter combo for lots of damage. Or if you can do Full charge combos You can do mighty smash H you can do a dhc in the corner to hailstrom, and link a lightning attack afterwards and go for mixups after that. Only problem is you would probably want thor on beam as well to back up storm since Ammy is more lockdown then allowing you to start your pressure. Storm whirlwind is good in projectile fights for thor and can be used to do some mixups.
Yeah, the DHC glitch is what made Thor and Storm work well together before, but come November, I’m not too sure. Just thinkin’ out loud here, you might be able to Thor’s BnB in the corner, to knock them on the ground with the S, do Mighty Thunder for an OTG and DHC into that Power of Gaia move. Lemme try that real quick…and yeah it works. It’ll be trickier to do it mid screen though. Precise timing on the Thunder to make sure it carries them to the corner and then DHC into Storm’s move on the far end of the screen, but other than that, I got nothin’ I’m sure if you tinker around with it for a bit, you’ll think of somethin’ better.
This has prob been done but I finally combined Thor, Amaterasu and Dorm (The God Squad) and the combination of talents is perfect for Thor as lead.
Both these characters assists give Thor time to get close enough for his command grab on ground, which I’ve noticed over reading these forums is a problem for almost everyone during a match.
The dog’s Cold Star assist gives plenty of time to get over to a character and the assist takes up half the screen. Time it right and you can MH after the ice is done on block or on hit, or you can use his crouching + Medium – a move that has one of the fastest recoveries for Thor – to combo or setup the MH. I noticed you can get the MH off right after the crouching M if you you use crouching M while the assist has been active for about half its frame. Also, up close the cold star assist gives Thor time to do a M mighty smash right into MH if you start it right after the first ice ball hits.
Same goes for Dorm and his Dark Hole is more when you’re already in, while the Cold Star is more for distance. Again it pins enemies down giving you time to do the same thing. Also Dark Hole finishes about the same time you’re recovering from M mighty smash.
Both moves actually give you time to think of what you want to do next.
Plus, Dorm can hold his own as an achor.
Best off all the standard hypers go seemlessly together. Outside of maybe Doom and Cap, I think Thor found his BFFs.
I’ve been using a team of Thor/Hsien-Ko/Zero and although I was krap when I started, they seem to all have a synergy working in their combos. It’s quite funny how it turned out.
Thor / Zero DHC combo, 1,000,000+ damage for 3 meters{I don’t know if that 4th super is neccessary}.
Thor combo with Hsien-Ko assist for extending it.
I picked this team because they were all favorites from different genres, who’d thought they be in the same game? Thor is my overall favorite out of the three though.
After watching some videos on here and thinking it over, I tried out Sentinel on my team in the 2nd spot and he seems like a good fit even though I said to myself that I would never use Sentinel after the game came out lol.
Using the match up portion of this thread, I’m gonna say confidently that Thor does not fair well against Taskmaster at all. Shield skills absorbs a good bit of what Thor throws out mostly, which cuts down on a lot of what Thor does to get in. Combined with Thor’s normals being too slow to punish anything, most of my matches with experienced Task players go down south. You pretty much have to be as patient as patient can be and wait it out hoping for the other guy to make a big mistake that Thor can punish, like being in range for a quick Mighty Hurricane grab, or capitalizing off a lucky hit confirm, but over all I say it’s best to avoid that fight.
Another match up that I find sorta difficult is against Kl’rt. Since Thor’s mobility is entirely air-based, a good Kl’rt will be throwing out those Meteor Smashes. As such, I suggest never using fly against him, because you leave yourself completely vulnerable for a smashin’. Also, never charge up a Mighty Strike either. Other than that, once you start recognizing how the skrull plays, and play a lil’ bit safer with your approaches, like with some tri jumps that lead into blocks, you can turn the fight into Thor’s favor. Watch out for various resets from the Elastic Slam though. Make use of the air dashes to avoid the anti air ES, and when you see the skrull go for a ground ES, jump up, but yeah, it’s difficult, but not at all impossibly hard.
Anyone have any other good to know tips on various match ups? I find that Thor’s best match ups are against people who have trouble getting in on their own.
Does anyone have advice for against the top tiers of mvc3? (Dante/Zero/Magneto/etc) They really give me a hard time and if I try to call support Stark gets blown up, not sure what to do, mighty strike comes out too slow…
