"Give me a Sit-rep!" - Chris Redfield UMvC3 Thread

Hey guys, I’m having trouble with Chris’ Satellite Laser. I can’t figure out how it can start out on another part of the screen. I’m trying to do a combo that has my opponent in a hard knockdown full screen away. Whenever I push the crosshairs over to the opponent, they recover. How can I start the level 3 with the crosshairs already full screen?

It depends on which button you’re holding during startup, H is full screen M is midscreen and L is slightly in front of Chris. If you don’t hold anything it’ll start on top of Chris.

You rock.

What’s this I hear about invincibility during Satellite Laser? Is it full invincibility or just to physical attacks or projectiles? I have been knocked out of it before, so what parts of it exactly are invincible?

You’re invincible to everything during start up animation and anytime you shoot, any other point in time you’ll be extremely vulnerable. It doesn’t work well on reaction to things like Storm’s hail super or any ridiculous beams like Akuma because while you can avoid getting hit on startup you have to fire right away to get a shot off and you usually get knocked right out before you can do anything about it. Just experiment whenever you get a chance to see what you can punish. Random Bionic arms are easy to blow up.

Gc_Yoshi was just on stream for NorCal Regionals 10. Unfortunately he just lost to Killer Kai, but if you wanna see some really solid Chris play, be sure to tune in.

Yeah I saw him play too, shoutouts for repping that redfield

Kind of random, but Chris can use his crouching A to blow up his own landmine.

(Hunh. Never noticed that. Somehow I doubt it’s new to the latest version, whatever the changed.)

I haven’t forgotten about this. Just been really busy. That will change come Friday, so I’ll try to at least check up a bit, though I am ridiculously behind on everything SRK-related, not just UMvC3.

Still, I am profoundly sorry (like always). It should have never gotten this bad/gone this long. But, yeah, still not dead yet.

Since the Assist Me guide was pretty…well, lame, I want to make a comprehensive Chris guide/video thing. I now have a shitty capture card for showing things in the lab and I want to find good match video examples of Chris tech in use (while I’m a decent player, any match videos of me would be essentially worthless). I’m thinking 15 minutes or so, max and then tack on a combo video at the end for the fun of it.

Good idea/bad idea?

If I do the whole thing (right now I’m heavily leaning toward yes, because I honestly think that people, by and large, are using Chris incorrectly) I’m going to need tips, strategy and technology from this site and forum plus anything out there I’m sure I’ve missed or just don’t know about. Any and all help would be appreciated. Once I compile everything, I’ll write it up, and post it here for good measure.

Sounds like a good idea. Since I’m still learning to use Chris, I’ve been looking everywhere for a video teaching actual tactics to use and not combos, so it sounds like exactly what I, and probably a lot of other people, need. I’ve mostly had to learn through lots of losses, and it would totally help.

well it wasnt all that lame. just that any one who plays somewhat seriously woul dhav already researched and known alot of the stuff he talked about. was certainly hella entertaining though and i did learn about the properties of his boulder punches so i atleast learned something from it. i like your idea though as i was hoping for most of what you said for your video from the assist me one. i say go for it and lets see how ur efforts turnout.

My problem with the Assist Me video is that all the information can be found in the guide. The video offers pretty much nothing new.

Pretty much this. I’ll let Assist Me be Assist Me and then I’ll pick things up from there. More intermediate and advanced.

And while you’re looking over here, Yoshi, I seem to recall a video you posted with ridiculous relaunch combos using grenades and Spencer’s horizontal grapple assist. Was that you? Is that still around somewhere?

Edit:
Nevermind, I found it. I just assumed it came from you since it was creative and had Spencer and all.

I wanted to let people know about Chris’ Medium version of Combination punch (QCB + M)
The first hit always gives a specific amount of hitstun that isn’t affected by HSD when hitting an aerial opponent during combos.
It’s a useful combo ender to Flamethrower, Combination punch (1st hit), Sweep Combo when the opponent is no longer grounded.
It mainly adds a tiny bit of meter with damage and it almost always works.

gonna have to try that out and see how easy/hard it is to pull off consistently. well as soon as my tv starts working again

Alrighty, folks, I’m going to start recording stuff for my super amazing video guide tomorrow. The whole thing will hopefully take about two weeks to put together (I’m trying to give myself a liberal amount of wiggle room). I’ve got it mostly outlined and I think I’ve done a pretty good job of collecting examples of all his tech. Is there anything people would like me to cover specifically? I don’t think I’m going to be setting the world on fire and revealing a new top tier character or anything, but it should be helpful so if there are questions that people want answered, I’ll take them on or at least consult those that can.

i cant wait. oh, and plz dont add music to your guide. most of the ppl be adding music to their gameplay guide and it be really sucks cause how am i suppose to learn the video while music is playing.:frowning:

There’ll be some intro and outro music and music during the combo vid portion, but don’t worry, during the important bits there will be nothing standing between you and my shining wisdom.

Thanks dude!!! : )

please include the randomness of chris’s down H after an airthrow. i just feel like this never get’s mentioned enough and have seen way too many chris’s players get blown up after a missed otg cancelled into something wiffing or missed otg into a wasted xfactor. elaborate more on chris anti keepaway game. uses for his forward H kara cancels. the second hit of boulder punch H is a crossunder and can be used as a surprise incoming mixup.

a section entirely focused on chip damage. setups, strings, resets into chip, chip option selects? (a lot of players already do something like this like reset using pistol canceled into grenade but always go for a throw and nothing else) what about roll recovery resets instead of going for the otg? or more chip after the failed reset?

and imo i don’t think we need any more combo videos it’ll take time from the other tstuff. chris is not a top tier character but he is very far ahead of the crappier characters.

sorry for the randomness of my post this is just stuff off the top of my head but i too think no player on video is using chris to the fullest potential.
