Yea Chris/Spencer does the best damage and jam sesh is the best assist so it works out well. It was fun to watch, and I’m happy for the dude.
I don’t think cloud played the matchup with Zero correctly, I guess he’s used to holding forward and applying pressure all the time but he should have really took a second to realize how free that matchup is for Zero as long as he doesn’t run into the fire (which I think he did almost every round?). Zero can out zone Chris, especially when Chris doesn’t have vajra or missiles.
i don’t think your giving taxi enogh credit. the way he sets up his defense is unique compared to any other team in the game and as far as i’ve seen any other player. he calls jam session preemptively to set up his grenades rather than wait for the opponent to close in so it wasn’t obvious when to approach. there was even a time when a grenade would pop up a full screens distance. both jam session and flaming grenades completely negate a level 3 buster shot. what cloud could have done to frustrate taxi is fullscreen low level air buster shots x3 over and over again but i don’t think he knows how to do that. chris has a hard time against fast air to ground projectiles but at the same time that won’t kill him. i actually think chris with jam does really well against zero well at least better than 90% or the teams out there. taxi wasn’t even doing some of the more advance stuff like putting he opponent in superjump block stun w/ jam, throw flame grenade cross under into whatever.
i believe there is a way to play perfect defense with chris. what i mean by that is chris can alway have either an assist or a flaming grenade on screen at all times without an opening leaving the opponent to come up with unusual and at times predictable ways to apaproach chris. i think taxi did a very good job of displaying this.
Yea I’ve been trying to effectively get to a point where there is always something on the screen for the opponent to worry about. And I think Taxi did great and capitalized off of Cloud’s mistakes, credit is due there. The worst thing you can do against Zero is corner yourself and he made sure to avoid that scenario rather well.
Imo chris with jam is one of the better ways to beat a zero cause you can control the ground and the air to a degree with jam session. In my experiences my record of fighting against zeros with jam session is 6-5 or 7-3 which is better than my zero mirror match record with is a literal 50/50 depending on who gets the first hit. Taxi did a nice job doing what your supposed to do against zero, and thats to control the screen.
sorry for the early hangover gibberish i posted…
anyway i was analysing the senor ass taxi vids some more and there are a couple of specific things he does that anyone that wants to play chris at his best:
-he only throws one flaming grenade at a time and once it becomes a flame, either by being set off in some way or over time on it’s own, he’ll set up another one immediatly by either calling assist into another grenade or just throw another lone grenade. the reason why this is so important is
- assuming the grenade isn’t set off, you have about two second to do stuff between the grenade toss and the explosion like move around, shoot gun, go in offensively, react to an opponents attempt to get in with box airdash, etc. the important thing is that chris is always being covered whether a visible flame is there or not.
- some players like i used to do have a bad habit of throwing mutiple grenades and that is never a good idea because it cuts down the time you have to do “stuff” since grenade explosions can set one another off. and throwing a grenade slightly after one is already set off allows it to remain a lingering grenade and not a flame.
it seems really random what taxi is doing with assist calls and grenades but he actually has a really strong defensive strategy in mind. i do think he abuses the assist button too much when he could’ve just chuck another grenade instead but at the same time he does a good job of protecting his assists by either throwing a grenade into them or jump back pistol both very safe options especially because dante comes out in front of him.
-he used to include jam assist in his combos but does not anymore. it might not seem like it but this is a huge change for the better. it means he’ll have it available when he needs it like for an incoming mixup or during neutral, it also means dante gets to heal a good amount of life in a long combo therefore also allowing jam to be used more often.
Worth checking out, covers just about everything and then some
I picked up a new capture card. Obviously I have some compression issues to work out, but if there’s a lobby session or something that people want recorded, I can make that happen.
When are you free again? I’m down for more games, last session was fun. anyone else want in?
