Girls And Guilty Gear

my hero

Yeah back in '92 at the bowling alley in Morgan Hill, CA this Mexican girl played Sub-Zero and that’s it. And owned at Mortal Kombat.

I have never played any Guilty Gear games whatsoever.

You can’t deny that sweet bacon action Nate.

But yeah, I guess Ryu is too manly for female tastes. What with the entire barefoot thing going on and the smelly karate gi.

My ex gf(who almost looks like one of those pigs in the above photo) was into GGXX. She played Baiken. She tried and she tried. She thought she was actually good. Until I picked up the control. I made up some crazy Baiken combo on the spot and she nearly stopped playing. I think she started whining for that entire session. Good times. She also tried Tekken 5. She thought Xiayou was the shit because well, you know, she’s Asian. She denied the fact of picking Xiayou for the simple fact that she was an Asian character.

Anyway, if the chicks playing fighters ain’t hot, whats the point? I’ll just treat them like one of the guys.

Not this guy.

But…on an on-topic note…I seriously think GG has a chance to explode into semi-mainstream popularity in America.

The game is deep, but simple enough for n00bs to come in and use. Sol, Ky, Dizzy have simple but effective moves so that a beginner can feel comfortable enough to start with.

It even has an appeal to non-gamers or gamers who normally wouldn’t touch SF with a 10-feet pole.

The girls that are playing the Slash machine out here are Asian of the FOB kind mostly. They look cute about 80% of the time.

I remember when my friend’s wife first saw Guilty Gear. She said the game looked like it was made by lesbians. Dont know if thats a good thing or not.

Too bad it gets no exposure. I mean SF3 and KOF XI have at least a fair amount of cabinets in arcades, but / and #R have virtually none. People would love it if they only could play it…

The arcade owner out here just stuck it in the cabinet that GGXX:RELOAD was on. I think it’s the only one in SoCal.

SRK loves to dish out the hate on GG. Whats wrong, afraid of those GG loving otakus?

My gf finds gg garish and annoying. She only likes snk fighters, although she wont play much. She happily spent 116 hours on dragon quest though.

All the GG otaku suck at the game. I don’t think any top player is some stereotypical otaku with a pot belly, inch thick glasses, and Pocky always in hand. Otaku fucking suck at fighting games. Last year when I went to my college’s anime club, I was watching Evo 2k4 3S matches on my portal DVD player. Watch was Ino’s Makoto against a Ken (forget who). Ken got command grabbed… and some doofus asked “lol why didn’t he block?”. I never went back… but not for that reason; even otaku are too fucking nerdy for my tastes.

The emos I know hate GG.

Emo sucks anyways.

Someone give this man a medal.

uhh well… actually most “competitive” fighting game players in japan are considered otaku in perspective of non-gamers.

but many of them also seem like pretty competent people. guys like fab, kaqn and arisaka don’t really look like dorks but they’d probably be considered otaku by standards of people that really don’t care for guilty gear. anybody into hardcore anything can be called otaku. so otaku doesn’t necessarily mean that the person is totally goofy, so i think you probably just misphrased.

so i assume you probably meant otaku as in like american sense… which are basically fat, smelly, reclusive people. so yea. maybe something like fanboys would be more fitting? but i do agree that anime clubs are pretty shitty.

then again, everybody got their own perspective. guys in my house poke fun of me for playing fighting games “competitively” and watching any bit of ani-gay. i deal with that shit all the time. but yea. that’s that.

also… you have a cap from hentai game as your avatar.

actual conversation

me: i don’t care who you pick since its your first time, because playing the computer sucks. random select, get bridget
girl: why’s that girl in a nun’s outfit.
me: that’s a dude.
girl: no way.
me: yeap.
girl: LOOK AT HER!
me: i know i know. read the . . . manual! yeah. like hell i’d ever tell anyone i know to google bridget
girl: i still don’t believe you
me: just pick someone

I used “otaku” as in an “American sense” because we’re talking about Americans here. Makes sense to use the “American” version of the word if you are, in fact, living by America’s standards. So yeah, they were typical American otaku. I know otaku in Japan can be pretty much anyone obsessed with one hobby… but we’re not talking about Japanese here.

With that note, even nerds/geeks/whatever have their standards. I consider myself to be pretty geeky, since I’m into computers, playing video games, currently play fighting games competively and have played FPS competitively in the past, and watch anime. I am a geek. However, these people literally lived and breathed anime. That’s… that’s just too intense for me. I mean my friends and I talk like nerds too and shit, even in public, but none of us fit the stereotype these scrubs at my local college’s anime club. It was frightening. What made it even worse is that the club president was pretty much your typical otaku. Fat, pale, big glasses, and even talked like a nerd. Again, too intense for me.

It’s a little fast-paced for the SF3 peoples…

:looney:

i think that pic is from a promotional tourney arc systemworks and sega held right before the official arcade release of slash. the guy on right is pachi.

and yea… they also featured a girl cosplayed as bridget. not sure who she was though. some kind of voice actor or model. i don’t remember.

p.s. i got no hate, only love spirit juice!

Women generally tend to like Soul Calibur and Pocket Fighter for obvious reasons.
There does seem to be a disproportionate number of female Guilty Gear players though.

Lol.
