Yo, my girlfriend is really into comics, and I thought a nice one might be a good Christmas gift.
Ideas?

What kind of stuff does she like to read?
I know she likes X-men and Hellboy.
She said her favorite is Blacksad.

Not knowing what X-Men books she has read and all, The Dark Phoenix saga is collected in a TPB and is one of the most important stories of the X-Men mythos.
If she liked Grant Morrison’s run on X-Men then she would really like his All Star Superman run. Some TPBs for that are out but it’s not complete yet, but you can start her off with the first few TPBs.
Another X-Book she might enjoy is God Loves, Man Kills if she hasn’t checked that one out before. The second X-Men movie was partially based on it.
Not sure but she might enjoy Strangers in Paradise or Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, both by writers who know how to handle young female characters.
You are always golden with anything written by Alan Moore. Watchmen, From Hell, V For Vendetta and League of Extraordinary Gentleman. His works are akin to literature and are enjoyed by everyone.

Blacksad kicks ass. Does she have the Blacksad sketchbook? I’ve got it and it’s not only a nice artbook, but it has a lot of interesting insights into the first graphic album.
Or, if you’re really hardcore, you could find a foreign edition of Blacksad volume 3. (The American publisher went bankrupt before they could translate it.)
I actually think she would love that Blacksad art book.

If she likes vampire novels she MIGHT like Anita Blake from Marvel. The first series is collected in TPB.
Also if she likes classic stories like Jungle Book or The Illyad, Marvel have released these stories in comic book form and are currently collected in TPB as well.
Just look up Marvel Illustrated and see if you can find something she’ll like.
